Hi all. I am wondering if anyone knows of some good channels on YouTube about older tools. I am interested in Craftsman, Black Hawk and others. Can be about the histroy, cleaning, tool haul and so on. Thanks

In defense of Scoutcrafter, he always states that he does that cleanup to pliers, etc. that come off of the fifty cent table at flea markets and not something that has collector value. Agree that his methods are over the top sometimes, but always a learning experience for me.Scout crafter is very knowledgeable but, in my opinion, he sometimes goes way overboard in cleaning his vintage tools to the point of devaluing them. Example the handle came out of the factory with sharp edges so let's take it to the belt sander and just kill the **** out it, type of approach.
I have a guy that like me just loves tools, but his knowledge is limited somewhat, whereas scoutcrafter knows everything. Now my guy on youtube picks up amazing vintage tools most every weekend and he pays so little for them which just blows me away.
Anyhow an old post of mine in case you are interested in his youtube: (for best tool hauls)
My Vintage picker Hero award goes to small town machine shop.
This might sound a little crazy as they say, but this guy on YouTube is my vintage picker hero. I like very much how he buys his vintage tools and how he pays not much money for the tools that he finds. He goes by the name of small town machine shop on YouTube.(y)(y) A link of his latest tool...www.garagejournal.com
I like him too but the garbage cans he works on sort of puts me off. That some people use their cars for dumpsters amazes me as I'm a neat freak and this really bothers me. I would have thought that because he's Florida based the cars he works on wouldn't be the complete beaters Eric O has to deal with. My bad, they're just as ******. How Customer States What can work on the cars he does without going to the pressure washer prior to a visit to the decontamination center prior to touching them amazes me.I enjoy "Jimmy, Making it work." You have to like watching a mechanic on the job, but he has a good perspective on auto mechanic tools
It is certainly eye-opening to the fact that mechanics do not get to work on only newer, neatly kept cars. Yikes!I like him too but the garbage cans he works on sort of puts me off. That's what happens when you work in an independent shop. People don't love their older, high-miles cars as much as newer ones, I guess. So, trashed cars are pretty common in shops like that. I like his rankings for the junky cars people bring in. Also, in independent shops you spend a lot of time just keeping cars running and on the road for customers. Never mind the rust and caked on oil and grease, either.I like him too but the garbage cans he works on sort of puts me off. I don't know what it says about me, but the cartoon bear is actually a selling point for me. It's fun, unique and not like a lot of the other stuff.Den Of Tools does OK, if you can deal with the cartoon bear.
Makes it easier to watch IMHO, and he gets 'in character' a bit too, which shaves the flintier rough edges off the real guy. He seems fine, but I prefer watching the bear.I don't know what it says about me, but the cartoon bear is actually a selling point for me. It's fun, unique and not like a lot of the other stuff.
Agree. I think he'd be the first to admit it's as much entertainment as anything, but I do think he's honestly trying to offer useful insight beyond the test-to-fail stuff, which I don't find useful at all.I watch a lot of the Project Farm videos, I really appreciate his head to head stuff, although I don't always agree with his methodology I like that it's consistent and you get to pick and choose what is important to you. Plus, he actually gives his preference at the end of the video. He is not afraid to say what item he likes best, and I appreciate that.
Not a fan. At all.MrSubaru1387 has some ok videos, but they can be rather hit and miss, and he seems to have a bit of a chip on his shoulder so YMMV.
Yeah - it seemed like he said he was coming back, but haven't noticed new content. Too bad - I did enjoy most of his videos.Real Tool Reviews also has some great ones, but looks like he dropped off the face of the planet a few years ago.
A lot of the mechanics on YouTube have become more jaded and more intertwined with import brands. Maybe they are burned out from the job or the comment section on their channel or from being around tool truck stuff all day? Who knows but the vibes they’ve been giving off lately haven’t been positive.cp the tool addict I was watching him a lot. His views of the big 4 tool trucks mirrored a lot of sentiment of mechanics. He used to really get on Harbor Freight which sorta got me to loose interest. And then when I check in he's promoting garbage Amazon brands so... I view that as a sellout
Garnett tools is a good one. One of my fav. He's an SK guy.
Yea what happened to that guy with the Mazak mill turn? He was really good. And I watch CEE but sometimes his stuff is a little boring. I wanted to be a machinist as a high school kid but a machinist who knew me well talked me outta it. He said I wouldn't like the repetition. Worked with his dad instead who owned an auto shop.A lot of the mechanics on YouTube have become more jaded and more intertwined with import brands. To be fair, at least mechanics have a presence. Most of the machinist dudes seem to have died because their content is non-existent lately.
I know it's not politically correct but CP the Tool Addict is just too ugly for me to watch him.cp the tool addict I was watching him a lot. My problem comes when anyone blesses or criticizes something they have no direct experience with. Stating things as opinions (informed or not) is one thing, but if you haven't put your hands on the tool (or whatever), stating things as fact about the quality/metallurgy/reliability/etc. of something is dishonest. I guess I do take some indirect information - enough people here have long-time hands-on experience with SO wrenches/etc. that I take at face value that they're excellent and testing like what TTC and others have done strongly validate that, so I'd probably "vouch" for them (though I'd probably put words around it that it's an indirect opinion).cp the tool addict I was watching him a lot. He has reported a Snap On dealer from California already to Snap On.This dealer has been harassing him a lotMy problem comes when anyone blesses or criticizes something they have no direct experience with. I turned him off long ago as he reminded me of a country version of the VCG Construction or whatever.
Source? He has reported a Snap On dealer from California already to Snap On.This dealer has been harassing him a lot
From him,was on CP's channel and nothing else has been mentioned yetSource?
I don't get the story here. I guess I'll torture myself and see if I can stand listening to him to get it since I'm curious enough for some reason...He has reported a Snap On dealer from California already to Snap On.This dealer has been harassing him a lot
