Hi all. I am wondering if anyone knows of some good channels on YouTube about older tools. I am interested in Craftsman, Black Hawk and others. Can be about the histroy, cleaning, tool haul and so on. Thanks

Catus Maximus does all kinds of older tool reviews. If it is something that can be broken down and looked at he will do it.
Snap Ring Chronicles mostly does older ratchets. Complete disassembly and reassembly.
Tom Gunn Tools is pretty cool but his SK fanboy-isms can wear on you a tad. He still does some pretty cool hauls and talks a lot about older American tool company heritages.

Scout crafter is very knowledgeable but, in my opinion, he sometimes goes way overboard in cleaning his vintage tools to the point of devaluing them. Example the handle came out of the factory with sharp edges so let's take it to the belt sander and just kill the **** out it, type of approach.

I have a guy that like me just loves tools, but his knowledge is limited somewhat, whereas scoutcrafter knows everything. Now my guy on youtube picks up amazing vintage tools most every weekend and he pays so little for them which just blows me away.:thumbup:

Anyhow an old post of mine in case you are interested in his youtube: (for best tool hauls)

In defense of Scoutcrafter, he always states that he does that cleanup to pliers, etc. that come off of the fifty cent table at flea markets and not something that has collector value. Agree that his methods are over the top sometimes, but always a learning experience for me.

Scoutcrafter is a no miss for me. I look forward to his new content each week and learn something from him all the time. I also like Tom Gunn Tools, Project Farm and 357 Magdad.

I enjoy "Jimmy, Making it work." You have to like watching a mechanic on the job, but he has a good perspective on auto mechanic tools
I like him too but the garbage cans he works on sort of puts me off. That some people use their cars for dumpsters amazes me as I'm a neat freak and this really bothers me. I would have thought that because he's Florida based the cars he works on wouldn't be the complete beaters Eric O has to deal with. My bad, they're just as ******. How Customer States What can work on the cars he does without going to the pressure washer prior to a visit to the decontamination center prior to touching them amazes me.

It is certainly eye-opening to the fact that mechanics do not get to work on only newer, neatly kept cars. Yikes!

Last Best Tool has some interesting videos.
Second on Scoutcrafter, and I do think he gets a bit carried away, but at least he's saving tools from rusting away.
Catus Maximus is another great one.
Den of Tools is tolerable when he's not shilling Harbor Freight.
AvE has a few interesting vids on screwdrivers, wrenches, etc. He's been all over the place in recent vids.
The Essential Craftsman is basically the Bob Ross of tools and carpentry. Highly recommended.
Project Farm and Torque Test Channel are favorites.
Stumpy Nubs is also interesting for woodworking, etc.

There's a few others, but those are some of my favorite ones.

That's what happens when you work in an independent shop. People don't love their older, high-miles cars as much as newer ones, I guess. So, trashed cars are pretty common in shops like that. I like his rankings for the junky cars people bring in. Also, in independent shops you spend a lot of time just keeping cars running and on the road for customers. Never mind the rust and caked on oil and grease, either.

The Eclectic Handyman has some really good Craftsman USA videos/reviews. He collects a lot of the NOS stuff like I do.

A couple of the channels steal first hand information from the message boards and other tool websites, then act like they received that knowledge themselves first hand and present it as such.

I find your friendly neighborhood tool bear to be most guilty of that.

Den Of Tools does OK, if you can deal with the cartoon bear.
I don't know what it says about me, but the cartoon bear is actually a selling point for me. It's fun, unique and not like a lot of the other stuff.

I watch a lot of the Project Farm videos, I really appreciate his head to head stuff, although I don't always agree with his methodology I like that it's consistent and you get to pick and choose what is important to you. Plus, he actually gives his preference at the end of the video. He is not afraid to say what item he likes best, and I appreciate that.

MrSubaru1387 has some ok videos, but they can be rather hit and miss, and he seems to have a bit of a chip on his shoulder so YMMV.

HumbleMechanic also has a few, but it's clearly not close to the main focus of his channel.

Real Tool Reviews also has some great ones, but looks like he dropped off the face of the planet a few years ago.

Hey guys, came across this channel after someone here posted a link. Been watching a ton of videos from this guy the last couple of days. He tests tools and does a really great job. For example, when testing torque wrenches, he tests them when new and then again after 1,000 uses to check for deviation.

His comparisons are nowhere near as extensive as Project Farm, but he still provides really great data points.

Makes it easier to watch IMHO, and he gets 'in character' a bit too, which shaves the flintier rough edges off the real guy. He seems fine, but I prefer watching the bear.

Agree. I think he'd be the first to admit it's as much entertainment as anything, but I do think he's honestly trying to offer useful insight beyond the test-to-fail stuff, which I don't find useful at all.

Not a fan. At all.

Yeah - it seemed like he said he was coming back, but haven't noticed new content. Too bad - I did enjoy most of his videos.

cp the tool addict I was watching him a lot. His views of the big 4 tool trucks mirrored a lot of sentiment of mechanics. He used to really get on Harbor Freight which sorta got me to loose interest. And then when I check in he's promoting garbage Amazon brands so... I view that as a sellout

Garnett tools is a good one. One of my fav. He's an SK guy.

A lot of the mechanics on YouTube have become more jaded and more intertwined with import brands. Maybe they are burned out from the job or the comment section on their channel or from being around tool truck stuff all day? Who knows but the vibes they’ve been giving off lately haven’t been positive.

To be fair, at least mechanics have a presence. Most of the machinist dudes seem to have died because their content is non-existent lately.

Yea what happened to that guy with the Mazak mill turn? He was really good. And I watch CEE but sometimes his stuff is a little boring. I wanted to be a machinist as a high school kid but a machinist who knew me well talked me outta it. He said I wouldn't like the repetition. Worked with his dad instead who owned an auto shop.

I know it's not politically correct but CP the Tool Addict is just too ugly for me to watch him.

I liked Real Tool Reviews too until he bought a Skidmore torque tester and then the expression: "If you only have a hammer then everything in the world looks like a nail." come into play. He had a lot more variety prior to that.

My problem comes when anyone blesses or criticizes something they have no direct experience with. Stating things as opinions (informed or not) is one thing, but if you haven't put your hands on the tool (or whatever), stating things as fact about the quality/metallurgy/reliability/etc. of something is dishonest. I guess I do take some indirect information - enough people here have long-time hands-on experience with SO wrenches/etc. that I take at face value that they're excellent and testing like what TTC and others have done strongly validate that, so I'd probably "vouch" for them (though I'd probably put words around it that it's an indirect opinion).

I turned him off long ago as he reminded me of a country version of the VCG Construction or whatever.

I don't get the story here. I guess I'll torture myself and see if I can stand listening to him to get it since I'm curious enough for some reason...

Ignore any video where the guy has a stupid expression on his face in the thumbnail, as if he's trying to pretend to be confused that his picture is being taken. Those videos are guaranteed to be worthless and annoying.

Unboxing videos are essentially useless since they never test the tool, let alone actually use them. They stumble through opening a box like they're a 4 year old disassembling a rocket ship and say "this tool looks good, feels good in the hand, it's a great tool".

There's nobody in particular that I watch; mostly just searching for what I have interest in buying then sifting through the ****. Some suggestions already made here I will look for and try to watch some videos of interest though

Not many real useful tool channels, TTC is about best example of useful data,
most are nothing but nonsense and basically product advertisement sellout and less than accurate information .
Real tool reviews was quite useful in the day, would like know why he so suddenly pulled out, assume some juice to squeeze :)
