Don't know if anyone posted AvE, but this guy is great. Even if the review is wrong, I'm so entertained I don't care.

I don't go for tool review channels but I've liked some channels that have reviews. On the mechanical/hand tool side I think the most I get out of the channels is techniques vs deciding which tool to buy. This is one of the reasons why I've liked the Essential Craftsman videos. I also liked his comments about a shop being a place that family memories can be made. I've learned a lot about electrical/electronics tools from EEVBlog and a few other EE related channels. This was especially true of tools like Oscopes and multimeters. I guess it's also true of 3D printer videos. Those are perhaps the only ones where I will watch and potentially make a purchase decision based on the content.

I'm not seeing any trauma or drama :dunno:

Kilmer is exactly what I hate about YT. He wore out for me super fast.

It's funny the guy at Tools Tested has a very methodical approach, has invested in very nice testing equipment, usually tests a broad range of brands and presents in a zero-hype, almost flat way. His before and after 1000 cycle testing for torque wrenches is really interesting and useful IMHO. I really like his approach since it's information, not infotainment. But after dozens of videos he only has 32K subscribers. My only explanation for it is he's zero-sizzle.
YouTube is really no different than turning on the news

Bad or good, it’s no fun if we don’t feel entertained.

The entire media has compete against each other for eyeballs, so “ over the top” seems to be the rule of the day

People love to hate Scotty Kilmer as much as people love him

Scotty Kilmer is a blathering idiot. He took an inaccurate swipe at Parts Avatar, a Canadian version of Rock Auto, and they swiped back ! The video goes on a bit long but the first half, with "angry Scotty face" is pretty funny.

I get suspicious of dudes when a brand will launch a new tool and suddenly they are all reviewing it. It gets the side eye for sure. I also wonder what happens to a lot of dudes. Like one minute they are everywhere and then ****** and that’s that.

My favorite dude was German Tool Reviews. He stepped away from the channel and can only assume he passed away. I’m also a fan of the dudes that just go on the trucks and shoot the 💩 cause it’s entertaining listening to mechanics *****.

As stated, very few reviewers show actual use of the tool. I suspect most reviewers have never worked on anything. Take Den of Tools, has he ever actually used the HF tools he raves about? Haven’t seen one video of that guy getting his hands dirty. And yes, there are others in the same category just the one that was top of mind.

He went for a short break due to being busy and health, never came back.

"maybe really the reason I'm doing the video is because it seems that if you don't post anything on YouTube everybody seems to get the impression that you've died"

He was right about that!

I think he either worked on pinball machines and arcade stuff as a trade or as a hobby because he had a few instances where he was demonstrating a tool on a pinball machine. Seriously a cool channel. Oh well.

To be honest, I thought CP the tool addict also died but I see every once in a great while he posts a small short video. He might have been annoying but his flyer videos were nice for those of us who have drivers that do not pass them out. So yeah, I guess I’m guilty of assuming long absences on social media = death. 🤣

Thing about YouTube is you get some great hobbyist/tradesman content where people just want to share their enthusiasm for technical stuff, of these channels a small percentage will turn out to have genuinely decent hosts/presenters.

Then the copycat channels appear filled with "influencers" and overdramatic clickbait titles trying to sell you product or dismiss the competitions product.

I have only seen a few of his videos, but I like this guy.

I like it because.... And then we get to watch him use it. I don't follow him, but this video is the reason I looked at the Proto ratcheting wrenches that he's demonstrating. I then bought a set. Really liked it. So I bought mother so now I have SAE and metric.

Alot of these guys are shills. Some are cool to watch some have some stupid way of presenting products. One dude was ok at first but he would talk so much trash about Harbor Freight but yet he would be lurking on the harbor freight facebook group I was in. He just loved to hate on them but yet used them for the clicks on his page.

Kinda like the same guys who have EDC Gear. Yeah I carried this for whatever time and did this with it yet it doesnt look like it touched anything. Big deal your sharp knife can cut paper.... Show some real tests but eh... Just for the clicks and views and to shill their products.
