Hey heyy heyyy! As of January I purchased my very first home for my "old lady", (Don't tell her i said that), and I. Its a 3 bedroom house, with a lovely kitchen and a fair sized living room. Oh yeah, and its got my lovely new garage, a 24 by 30 detached garage with a 16' by 8' door.:thumbup::deathmeta:deathmeta

So now that we are finally getting cozy in the house, i'm trying to get my shop the way i want it! So putting up a thread here to show you my progress, and maybe intrigue some ideas out of you guys! Any questions, comments, and/or ideas, than throw them out here!

P.S., i hope my pictures work! Took forever to load them onto computer.

First things first, I knew I'd be wanting more power out here. Having a welder already, plans on a fridge or deep freezer, and hunting down me a big ol air compressor here soon! Ended up putting in a 90 amp sub panel from the house. Lucky me the previous owner ran 1 1/2 pvc in ground so I had enough room for the new feeders. 74beb72b2a78d12ba76b5365d3411314.jpg

Had to rework the pipe some into the house. Talk about a PITA, trying to pull that wire alone. The wire is a cable tray rated wire with a thick jacket making extremely hard to pull through the pvc. But it being free from work, how can one complain? [emoji12] [emoji13] . Also here is a shot of our flower garden in between the house and garage. 3a39cd719cef38ee70bfd6fcd3ada00b.jpg 4f21518380e29f9b868c2206231143ba.jpg

What's a garage without walls? So off to work we went. Ended up using 7/16 board all around, and gluing the ceiling. Walls all insulated, and ceiling stuffed with 6 inch roll insulation. Made sure to sheet the attic as well and decided to put in a staircase. Can't be wasting any space! Got it all done in 2 evenings. Sky light seemed to fight us on this one! a2a37de0d61576a6d29b24d2aefa5f86.jpgdb0a00ceb009d17c5bb569e1383e273b.jpgd90fa0a368c662043159da81cbf899c1.jpg

Lights, lights, more lights. When I first moved in the shop only had 6-2 lamp t8 fixtures. When im working on something, I like to make sure I can see it. So all in all I ended up putting in 12-2 lamp t8s and a 4 lamp t5 directly in the middle of the shop. To say the least, it's bright. ..[emoji362] [emoji362] [emoji362] [emoji362] [emoji362] [emoji362] bada74a28d65535a61a795c3f5718558.jpg45e16bdf3838380d7225d12b6a6fc96c.jpg07984bbed9bc13ce3a866ba7fe5e2b05.jpg63fc68b304974294feb27f5506c6df81.jpg

This weekend I finally got to start on some of the fun stuff. Started by making a wheeled table to put my table saw on, makes it easy to move anywhere in the shop. Also got started on my bench tops. Happy with how they are turning out, solid enough for me to walk across. Thanks to my lady for the extra set of hands to get things leveled. ee1e2aaae79bfe3b87819189b9814a98.jpgb8643b9df6ec414d1a2ca07a484fc718.jpgffc9edc336d03789d3b5fb8ca48f6c8d.jpga45d6369361f2e43ae7bb82b927e4e9c.jpg

Thanks for the posts, the garage is looking great! What's your plan for the space? Woodworking? Storage? Keep the pictures coming!

The bench tops are actually from shelving units. It's probably 1/8 thick painted steel with curled ends. While it's really pretty sturdy, I think I'm going cut plywood to fit underneath the bottom lips to make it just that much stronger.

This is the inside lip I'm talking of. Planning on bending one side out and fitting plywood inside to make it stout. Whether i bolt or just screw it on I'm not sure yet.3fb405fcce8b10ffeba596ede995d8cf.jpg

Thanks methius! Well to say it simple, this garage will be used for everything! I'm the kind of guy that's willing to tackle literally about any project. I feel that I can learn anything that I put my head to. So if something arises I try to fix it or do it. Always something to learn, and always more tools to buy! [emoji11] [emoji12]

But besides that my big project that will be starting once the garage is done will be rebuilding my very first vehicle. A 1981 f-100. Bought it for a 1000 bucks when I was 16, and plan on keeping it until the day I die! Here's a old photo of the old girl. She's currently sitting in storage nearly completely gutted. 32d9ab808294d82e23fc2dea84f7068c.jpg

Been so busy with work this week, that I haven't had much time to work in the shop. But did manage to sneak out today. Ran some pipe and got me a ceiling fan installed. It's not much but it's a step closer.

Also checked out my lighting circuit, was quite surprised that the whole circuit [12 t8 fixtures, 1 t5, and the ceiling fan] was only pulling 8 amps. Odd since each t8 is rated to pull 1.25 amps a piece. Maybe that's just their start up amperage?

Sorry Captain, never saw your message. Yes, the 1x2 around the ceiling is for trim. Waiting on my buddy to stop by again and we will finish out everything. (so he can bring his air nailer since my i dont have a compressor yet.). But i already have all the 1x2 to finish the place out, and 1x3 for the windows and attic staircase.

All coffee'd up now, time to go do some work instead of talking about it!

i would rather see pictures of your work rather than you taking the time to answer my question but thanks for responding.

Was able to get my cabinet done this Sunday. Now I just have to stock it. Bottom and top areas will be just for power tools and ect. f1717a150abf40e267aca35557283fcd.jpg25da5fce8722fe48bccfc6e6794c12be.jpg

Took a little break last weekend. But got my little shed out back all fixed up. Roof was leaking. So I ripped it off and replaced the osb and put new singles on. Than got the inside organized. Sure is nice to have to keep yard equipment out of the way! 2ed9dd4eddf264d2f04e72e8e90b0d7f.jpg

So it's been awhile since I've updated this. I've gotten quite a bit done since my last up date. Cabinets in, rod holder made, tools moved in, door insulated, new compressor. Photos soon to follow.

A very sweet area for your workshop. Good organization and what a great build and transformation. I like the island workbench a lot and everything is looking good there!!
Very efficient and cool fishing rod storage!! That will be an idea I will steal!!

Best Regards

See different color receptacles.
Brown on one circuit white on another?
Yes, that is exactly what I did. There is actually 4 dedicated circuits, well 5 if you include my retracting triple receptacle and light that's hung on the ceiling. I'm an electrician during my day time so I collect various parts over time. Different colors seemed like a good idea to me!
