I have one similar. Results are so so. Just depends on severity of the lack of maintenance. Mine recommends using diesel or light oil.

I have one similar and have decent results. Penetrating oil or diesel works the best. I use it when old grease past the fitting is dried and stopping new grease. If I don't have to worry about paint, my torch is the best option.

Usually if working the pin and then using my cordless grease gun won't push grease through,, these don't do anything either and just end up having to pull the pin and clean.

i run across zerks that wont take grease due to lack of maint all the time.
pulling the pin, and knocking out the bushing, and cleaning out the grease groove is typically the only way to get grease in the pivot.

At one point was going to get one but I am in the fix and replace camp most of the time. While I don't fuss over oil change much anymore I don't let stuff get away too far from the grease gun. I made it this far without one.

I've worked on a few old rigs that had plugged grease passages. Having one of the above tools has me wondering where all the material goes that is flushed out? If the part is not disassembled and then cleaned all the **** gets forced into the bearing... Just the opposite effect of what your lubing the bearing for.

I have had the Grease Buster version for about 10 years now. Its made in Ohio. Mainly used for knotters on a hay balers and other farm equipment

Its a multiple part process using it. Take out the grease fitting first to see if it is not plugged. Then use a mini pick to try to clean out the hole. Put solvent first in the Grease Buster and then liquid penetrating oil like Moovit next.

I have a small hand carry box dedicated to grease tools and fittings and have a ipa grease rejuvenator kit works well. Every situation is dependent, but if it’s really bad it gets removed and cleaned. It does come in handy though.

Wow, new knotters.

You’re serious about hay.

I always made them,1/8 pipe and a tight fitting rod to use as a piston, you can screw it into the part after removing the zerk fitting or use it with a good tip to clean the fitting. Volvo uses pins on their outdrives that are removed by pumping grease into a fitting they are usually seized and need a good shot to remove them.

I found they work better if you remove the grease fitting and dig out as much crud as possible with a pick or small screw driver then use the tool.

Nah, just a picture off the net. Used it to show the amount of grease zerks on farm equipment. About 12 in that picture.

Even if you are good about greasing stuff on a regular basis, there always is a fitting or 2 that gets missed and then there is poorly maintained equipment that doesn't get used much and the grease hardens.
