So I just bought my first house in Southern Alberta, Canada, and it didn't come with a garage so I was basically given a clean slate to design what I wanted. I live in a starter home community and as such have a zero lot line (my property goes up to my neighbors house on the left and the guy on the right's property goes up to the side of my house).
I only had 25' wide to work with so I looked through the by-laws and found out exactly how big I could go then maximized my square footage. I ended up going with a 24'x 26' with 10' walls and storage trusses.
I work long hours and frequently have to travel for my job so I am contracting out the concrete and structure. After its done I will be running 220v to it and finishing the inside.
May 23rd, 2014: They came and framed up the foundation today. The fence posts are 4" on my side of the property line so to get the full width we are right up to the fence. I'll need to take a section out of each side and get my neighbor to shimmy over his ****-ted (****** shed) for them to frame it.
May 26th, 2014: The concrete was poured today. I'm a little concerned that they didn't leave a rough in for the man door into the yard. As it sits now I will have to step over a 6.5" curb wall to get into and out of the garage. This is going to make moving the lawn mower in and out ridiculous. I'm having the contractor com over tomorrow to try and explain his logic to me.
