Hi all,
Does anyone know if it's possible to zero a micrometer without a wrench? I have an old Mitutoyo but no wrench.
Cheers,
Tom.

The wrenches are interchangeable for a bunch of brands - if you've got a Mitutoyo micrometer you can use a wrench from Starrett or Lufkin.

You could wrap up the jaws on some pliers and carefully turn the sleeve. It’s only a friction fit so it probably wouldn’t be to hard as long as a guy didn’t crush down to hard.

Email MIT or Starrett and they will send you a new one, probably free.

Or take a standard trashy wrench, and grind it down to fit. Or let us know what size you need, maybe someone can offer a spare.

You can purchase the wrench from Long Island Indicator Service or a generic at Amazon or on Ebay.

Hi Bill,
I called MTI (local distributor) and they quoted me $2.79 for a replacement. By the time I'd given him my address he said it's too much hassle to charge and sent it for free.
Cheers for the advice.
