Tired of never having the correct length cable tie? The other employees done raided all of yours? Cut 10 inches off an 11 inch? I picked up one of these to hide in my box and may never tell anyone else here about it...

That's a pretty cool tool right there. I second rlitman - the only place it shows up in google is their own website (without price or availability unless I have an account, which I do not).

If you have one - how would you review it? How well does it work? Any feedback or criticism you can provide? Where does it excel?

Thanks for the response.

It just got delivered today. I’ll pull the invoice and post up pricing for the gun and the refills tomorrow if I don’t brainfart and forget. I’ll ask my salesman if it is okay to post his contact info as well.

Where would it excel? Not sure just yet. Maybe in a limited access space where two hands may not fit to tie a normal cable tie. Just feed out a long length to get it back to the handle and ratchet it in and snip off all with one hand. Don’t have to go back in with snips to cut off the excess in a blind hole up behind a bumper or wherever. The reel snaps in place and detached with ease.

Could also be referred to as a gimmick by some folks. Then again, some of us can appreciate neat stuff.

There used to be one of the "and if you call right now you will get two" type of commercials for basically the same thing about 15 years ago.

Yes, and I may have one around here someplace in the electrical stuff I inherited from my brother. That old “Ronco” class deal didn't work that great as I recall. If I remember right it used a long reel of “zip” and little separate blocks of “tie”.

I have on that my Dad had, it might have been a gift from me when I was a kid. It worked well if I recall correctly...I haven't used it as an adult.

Where does the "buckle" come from? I watched the video twice and he only shows tie and no "buckle", but after he cuts it off, there is a buckle on the tie. Is their a supply of them inside the tool?

I've never used the tool, but just from watching the vid of course there must be separate zip and tie.

It looks interesting. I could put it to use, but it depends at what price, both for the tool and for the supply of more zip and ties. Also how readily available is it?

I didn't see any price listed at the site linked under the vid. Perhaps its available if you 'register' for the site? Looked for "Cable Master" and "Universal Cable Tie System" on Amazon and Ebay and came up empty. I did a cursory google for it. I didn't see it anywhere else besides the kimballmidwest.com site.

I've got a zip tie gun that pulls them tight, not sure if it cuts, but uses normal zip ties.

Maybe in some kind of production setting this roll of zip could be good, but zip ties are cheap and come in various strengths and types.

Looks like the same concept as the deltec system we use at the phone company only it is all self contained in the gun.

This looks to be quite similar, but without the trigger to tighten it. I believe I've seen this one on the shelf at Menards.

$10 might be worth a shot, and if it works better stock up on spools and clips because no telling how long they will be available.

That got me looking. This one looks pretty much identical to me to the Kimballmidwest one in the OP. Ks5 (Kelly's 5) cable tie gun

No idea where you'd get more spool and clips for it though.

Found a vid that gives a better idea how it works.

- After watching the vid all the way through I'd venture the Kimball Midwest is likely a rebadge of the Kelly's 5 or vice-versa.

I have one from my father-in-law.
He had it for about 10 years and never use it. Since I have it(2-3year) I used it maybe 2-3time

The tie are on a small rod to fill it.

it work good but it is still a gimmick.

all the tie are 100% plastic...no steel retainer.

It can be great for a repetitive job like: bundling cable after routing them(telecom) and even retaining PEX tube on the 6x6 mesh of a concrete slab let say.

but for day to day job: I need various size of the string, so no real need for it :|

One of the negatiev is that both of the string comme parallel into the tie(compare to 90deg with regular ziptie): so tying something into a small round make it almost impossible to make it real thight before the 100% plastic ties break

I like the idea of there being no waste, but it looks huge. I just can’t see myself using that up under a dashboard. Sure, you can fish the strip up into the dash and back out to the gun, but you still have to get the gun up under the dash to properly tension and cut the tie. If you war working out in he open though, it seems like it could be awesome!

Looks like someone already posted up info and links for the company that makes it for Kimball Midwest, cheaper too. $69.00 from Midwest with replacement clips and strap for $19.00 each. GB has a cheap one on Amazon for $10.00.

The spool detaches so all you have is the gun in your hand for tight spots. Too tight is just too tight though. Not gonna work in some areas.

It is not just length. I often use the thinner ties for the short jobs. In a few cases I even wanted the different color ties.

I had something similar about 20 years ago, this is an old idea that got modernized.

It worked but after awhile the body started failing, along with getting refills was difficult (before internet days) and so I tossed it in the trash.

This is the best zip tie dispenser.. and it's only $8. Those other things are too big, and too akward for all situations. No way that thing is faster.
