Sharp cane for sure. Might want to get his name or initials engraved on it. Personalized and helps if “lost”.
Just learned what a spider is. Blondihacks did video on building one. She called it a Cat’s head. Definitely see the benefit in using one.

I was going to offer up a front ****** seal project but now that I know you can craft a seat slide for 6-6” people......🤪

The Dental floss is a great trick, I have never seen before what a great idea.

That cane looks terrific.

Having my 79 z28 and being 6ft 4in, I know all to well about the seat not being far enough back.

I’m using the Fel-Pro molded one-piece pan gasket as I’ve had good results with them. A little trick is to use either fishing line or dental floss to secure the gasket to the pan then once in place merely cut the floss and remove. Used that little trick many times over the past 30+ years.

Mike, I remember learning the thread trick the hard way. I was young and confident putting the pan back on while working in the dirt driveway. Everything was going fine until the light bulb in the table lamp blew out. When you can't see what you are doling, the gasket can slip inside the pan real easy without you knowing. When I showed the oil coming off the bottom of the pan, my elderly mentor showed me the thread trick and it no longer mattered that I didn't have a working droplight or jackstands (cinderblocks under the tires seemed like a safe alternative). You can get the pan sealed up blindfolded.

The pan gasket comes with longer pan bolts.

Thanks for looking.
I noticed the bag with the blue plastic studs and had to do a little searching. I assumed by their color (Felpro blue) that they came with the pan gasket. Plastic alignment pins look like they will hold the pan in place while you get the bolts started. What will they think of next.

Very nice cane! Mine has a sword in it.

Love the cane but I want to warn you something. Had a coworker who had to start using a cane and soon ended up with a bum elbow. I would suggest that you warn MIL to keep an eye on things to see if he develops any wrist or arm problems. Also maybe have him have his Dr. check it our for length and angles of the grip. First thought I had was, that is a right handed cane.

Keep up the good work and play.

I kind of swell up with pride knowing that even when things were tight on funds I stood my ground and bought quality.

I'm 100% with you on this one.
People look at me like I'm nuts when I mention when, where and how much I paid for a tool. I'm still using things I purchased in the late 80's by not scrimping on quality. I remember how much I spent because quality tools back then cost a relative fortune. It was a difficult thing to do but I've never regretted it once.

X2! so simple yet effective, I like it!

X3! I have always pushed a half dozen through the gasket holes to hold the gasket in place. However, sometimes if I'm working in close quarters, I would lose a bolt or two, which would let the gasket slip. I'm gonna use the dental floss trick next time I'm doing a pan gasket. Thanks for the good tip, Mike!

Thanks for all of the kind words and comments everyone.

I really appreciate the interest and for everyone following along on my projects.

My wife and I went over and gave my FIL the cane yesterday and I think he liked it. My wife's SIL had mentioned that she was talking to him at a ball game earlier in the week and he was telling her that I had volunteered to build him a cane and he was excited for it.

Thanks again for all of the comments. I guess now I can't say I've never built a cane, check that one off.:bounce:

The majority of people have no idea how to use a cane or crutches for that matter correctly. It is inherently not natural.

Spend the money on a few visits to the physical therapist. Worth the money in injury prevention. You would be amazed at the number of people my wife (PT) sees with injuries from improper usage of a cane and crutches.

Thanks for all of the comments guys.

Don't think I want to go into business building canes but it was definitely a fun little project that I was honored to have been able to build for my FIL.

Mike that cane turned out real nice! If you and FIL decide that additional customization is desired I'd think about laser etching the shaft the black colour of the laser etching will mimic the handle nicely. Maybe Hurst on 1 side and his name on the other, throw some striping in for fun. Harry

Just as I was getting ready to head home today I received a call from my local welding supply informing me that my Hougen mag drill arrived as well as the annular cutters and drill chuck adapter. The only item that didn’t show up was the Jacobs chuck which is scheduled to arrive on Monday.

I also want to know what you are going to do with that mag drill.
As careful as you were with the Finger brake selection, seems you have a plan..

Thanks for all of the comments guys.

I don't have a specific job or task that I bought this drill for but I've wanted a mag drill for a few years now and have had projects such as frame work that one of these would have come in handy and saved me some frustration as well as time.

I never thought I'd say this because I've been such an advocate for having a clean hole free fabrication table, however, over the past little while there have been a few occasions where some holes for clamping would have been nice to have as my clamps wouldn't reach far enough towards the middle of the table. So I guess I'm eating crow and will be drilling some holes into my fabrication table and modifying some F-clamps to be used in conjunction with the holes.

I also have been approached by my neighbor who would like a few modification to his car hauler trailer. He has a larger gooseneck trailer that he uses in his transport business and has asked me on several occasions to do some modifications to it when I have time.

Overall I think it will just be a nice addition to my arsenal of tools for that "when" I need it I will have it handy. I'm sure many of you know what that's about.:lol_hitti

That Hougen drill is a great tool I can't count how many holes I've done with one of those.
The annular cutters work real well in a milling machine also. If you find yourself using that on the side of something or overhead be sure to put a safety strap or chain on it. I ended up with 22 stiches on my ear and in my head when some damm fool unplugged the power cord.

Hi Mike,

This is my first post on any of your threads. Congrats on your new mag drill! I think you will like it. There for a brief moment in time I had one tool that you didn’t. Oh well!

I did buy the Rota-Cutters based on your recommendation and really like them. I am just getting into metal working and welding.

I love your thread because you are very good at explaining what you do. I also like your methodical approach. I am an engineer and have been accused of being too “methodical” at times. Well, it wasn’t worded exactly like that, but you get the point!

What a kicked back and relaxing weekend. I think I could get used to these. [emoji12]

Friday night I usually trim, edge and mow my lawns so they look nice for the weekend, however, we decided to have a family get together in the back yard on Sunday for Father’s Day as well as our son and DIL’s first anniversary. That meant I was going to wait and do the yard work on Saturday sometime.

My wife suggested we have her dad over for coffee on Saturday morning to try and convince him to get some affairs in order and thought a relaxing conversation on the deck would be just the ticket along with her sister and brother. Turns out it was the perfect setting and atmosphere . We sat and went through several pots of coffee just enjoying the morning and view on the deck until about noon.

After everyone left I trimmed, edged and mowed the lawns. Then pressure washed the deck and while the washing supplies were out I washed and vacuumed the Jeep and the wife’s Acura.

Yesterday afternoon we had a yard full of people over for a very relaxing and fun interaction. Told some fun stories, everyone seemed to get along and it turned out to be a great evening. We started at around 4:30 and served some snack foods such as meatballs, little smokies and a wide assortment of dips. We thought people would hang out for maybe an hour and a half to two hours at the most but many didn’t leave until around 8:30pm which tells me they were relaxed and comfortable.

I think my wife enjoys entertaining in our back yard. Although now I have to go home and fluff up my grass tonight. [emoji23]

I am surprised you don't have a "fluffer" packed somewhere in that garage.

The Jeep looks great.

Sounds like you had a great weekend.

How did the Saturday afternoon chat go?

It went well. I think we made some progress and a "rough" game plan in place.

Thanks for following along.
