i do think the thumbs up system is better since you only need to look at the post itself to see if the code's good.
xenforo (this forum software) does not let you see replies to a post by simply looking at the post.

and maybe a sad face reaction instead makes even more sense since it's not the default reaction.

true, but the same can be said for quoting with 'i used the code, thanks' – no difference in this regard. i mentioned previously that imo the whole ★★ Hot Deals ★★ forum should be visible only to logged-in users. suggested it to the staff. no response.

there is in fact a financial disincentive to doing that. if you assume that the deals section drives traffic to this site from search engines, hiding it reduces the owner's profits. it's just one case of perverse incentive that naturally arises from a for-profit ownership structure. of course this is only speculation – i don't know if that's the real reason for ignoring the request.

Yeah my new plan based on this stuff is when I have a code post “i have a code, first person to pm me gets it” and then edit to say it’s gone once someone has claimed it. Best of both worlds.

i used to do that – the obvious downside is it's more work to share a code.

i also used to ask the person to follow up within a few days and lmk if he used the code or not so i could pass it to the next person if not.
