Quick question...

1st time I ordered through Zoro, how long does it normally take for your order to arrive after it shows as shipped? Did you use the free shipping option for orders over $50?

It depends. If the item is something Grainger typically stocks, you'll usually get it in a day or two. At least that's been my experience in Phoenix. These items are often marked "Ships in 1 business day," and they tend to arrive quickly, even with the slowest shipping option.

On the other hand, some items ship directly from the manufacturer and can take significantly longer. These usually say something like "Ships in 3 business days." Even though they're listed as "In Stock". I've had items take over a week plus to arrive when shipped from the manufacturer.

FedEx updated and shows it's being shipped next-day (with delivery later today 5/28), so I will found out for sure if it shows up.

Usually "free" shipping is the slowest possible route, or at least that's what I'm used to.

I don't look at the return address that often but I feel like almost every Zoro purchase I make ships from either California, Nevada, or Arizona.

Probably them optimizing logistics, but yeah it never results in me waiting more than a day or two.

I have been using them for steel. 4x 72" lengths shipped to my door for less than taking the trailer 40 miles away and buying 2x 144" to avoid the cut charge. Tried several times to get better pricing from the steel place. The Zoro order material arrives shipped from the local steel supplier. Has xyz metals then grainger then zoro on the paperwork for each item. Price is about the same with no discount and throw in a 20% or even a 15% and it is a no brainer. Felt bad for the fedex guy that day. Between 500 and 600 pounds on the truck for me that day. To get it myself I need to take a half day off work as I work an hour from home in the wrong direction. Last order I did place direct and had another local guy puck up for me with his steel order then I just got it from his shop. That was all 144" lengths around 300 pounds. Worked out well as those sizes were not zoro items.

For anyone else who might of had/or has a question similar to mine, my Zoro package showed today as shown by tracking.

I will definitely be taking advantage of more 20% off coupons and buying from Zoro.

Ordered yesterday. Agree - the extensions and ratchet sell individually for $162.

I’m quite positive I don’t need this set, but gave me a chance to own my first Gedore pieces for a great price.

Thanks!

Those are some goofy looking sockets.

I spoke too soon on Zoro, I'm afraid. I made another order last night and while it already shipped, appears to be coming from KY and tracking shows estimated delivery is not until middle of next week. So much for shipping from AZ/CA and showing up next day...

I'm sure this is in the thread somewhere but it bears repeating. Zoro is a subsidiary of Grainger and will ship from whatever warehouse has the product. No guarantees on next day shipping but if it says "Delivery by x date In Stock" it's generally accurate. If it says "Delivery in x days" they are drop shipping it from a supplier and those estimates have been less accurate in my experience.

Has anyone gotten the Gedore set in hand? Are those sockets some kind of grabs on the flat technology? Looks similar to kokens surface drive than say flank drive or proto ASD

Damn. I just ordered the Gedore set too. I don't know exactly what I will do with a 1/2" ratchet that is so short it should have been a 3/8". But I am a sucker for excellent deals.

Agreed that it looks like a surface drive, but also saw it described as a "metrinch" since these surface drive style sockets are forgiving on size. Someone is flipping it on eBay and said "*Metrinch style sockets. These can also work on many SAE sizes. Most sockets dual labeled for metric and SAE sizes. Great toolkit for the vehicle or as a gift set."

Yup! :geek:

Yes. This was discussed a few months ago, earlier in this thread - for more info, see post #6,397(click here). @Callelle said "The style is similar to Grey Pneumatic's Surface drive or Matco's Pro non-slip."

Close-up photos of the kit are here.

I won't use this in the next few days, so thought I would share it.

Got mine a few days ago. Zoro emailed and said it was out of stock and they'd let me know if they can get more... then the package arrived (drop shipped from Germany!)... then a few days later Zoro billed me for it. Weird. I know someone else who ordered 2 kits but they got the same Zoro OOS email, and so far, no kits have arrived.

Anyway, here are the pics. Due to the interesting design, perhaps the 15mm socket will work on a 14mm bolt/nut? But yes, that is a strange omission. Also odd the 11mm (7/16) is missing.

And, I haven't seen a single 20% coupon since ordering. Hmmm.

:cautious:

The 15mm does work on a 14mm but grabs too close to the corners for my liking. Same with 12mm on a 11mm. I guess , in a bind , this might do 80% of what's needed in a small package. I'd not have bought it at its full list price though with those skips. I have a full almost no skips 8-32mm set like this and bought this set only because it was the cheapest way to get hold of this ratchet for my 12pt set I'm making up. This is my favorite Gedore ratchet and my other set has this ratchet too. I do also like that it locks in on,centre and off. Don't use that often but it's come in handy at times

This set has a few skips , it's a small set. They work as normal 6 point sockets do , basically grip the flat sides. I have a more comprehensive set that has the above mentioned sizes included.

This is a strange set indeed. Never having owned any German vehicles, I’m not sure if it makes sense in that regard, or if it’s some kind of industrial compilation that makes sense. I figured I could possibly add 11, 14, and 21, but they don’t even make those sizes in the “C series” sockets (I figured this out after researching their slow and poorly done website). If the Intended purpose was to provide the flexibility of a “metrinch” set, it really skips important sizes such as 7/16”, 9/16”, 13/16” and 7/8”.

No real disappointment At <$50 delivered, but I’m not sure where I’m going to store or use the set. It’s too incomplete to count on for a minimalist travel set. Had I done my due diligence rather than impulse buying a “good deal” I would probably have passed. Oh well, I like to try different ratchets, so this was a bargain way to give Gedore an honest feedback. Although I have yet to receive this set from Zoro, I suspect my German tool preference will still be Stahlwille and Hazet.

Thats the thing, I am just here for the $50 ratchet. The rest is merely a curiosity. Until it is here, I dont know... but part of me is wondering if the loose fit of the surface drive is in itself the explanation for the "skips". Perhaps the 13 fits tight on a 14 hex? I dunno. This will be my first of any surface drives.

I have those sizes in C19 sockets and you can get them in South Africa easily. Don't know why they're so hard to get here or so much less common here than in SA , theyre quite popular there and you'll find them as easily as 6 and 12 point sockets.
