I just ordered from Zoro for the first time and found out the hard way that the codes only cover specific items. I could have bought at the local auto parts store for less $. How do you know that an item is covered without searching through 50 pages to see if it is on the list. The specific item page doesn't say it qualifies even if it does. It seems to be more trouble than it's worth.

I did that and nothing changed. It didn't say that the items were not qualified (other places that I order from say so) so I checked out thinking that the total would be recalculated to a lower amount automatically. Lesson learned.

On the checkout page, there should be a box marked "Enter a Promo Code" underneath the orange "Place Order" button on the right side. Before placing your order, enter the code and press the "Apply" button to its right. (I'm sure you did this, but just in case..)

After hitting apply, the price should be reduced if the code worked. If it didn't an error message will appear below the promo code box. If successful, the original price will be strikethrough & red, with the new price over it. Additionally, you'll see the words "Promo Applied" and the amount it was reduced at the bottom of the order summary (see image).

Unfortunately, most of the codes you'll get from Zoro's website, like 'READY42019' only work on specific categories. I recommend quickly perusing the last few pages of the forum for a trade code like WINTER183. These are good for 20% off most anything. However, no codes will discount the 36 brands marked as restricted. To see these, click on "Promo Codes" on the top right bar of Zoro's website, then scroll down. Additionally, most codes require a minimum of $100, though keep an eye out for exceptions.

Yeah there is! I was really hoping to use it on some Milwaukee stuff, but they were one of the brands excluded.

I recently filled out their survey and told 'em the new discount restrictions ****. Doubt they cared.

I fully understand they brought some (many) of their prices in line w more competitive retail but still now there's effectively zero deals to be had on something like Milwaukee at Zoro.

Anyway true to their word they did send me a $20 off $20 code later for completing the survey - I think the survey itself was invite only via email IIRC

Some of the brand restrictions are well known and apply across all other sites, but recently I discovered one that made no sense to me. A bottle of simple green was excluded when I used a code that applied to janitorial supplies and other categories. The other items in the cart showed the discount. That really pissed me off because I couldn’t find it listed in any exclusions list, which are exorbitantly long to the point of being obscure. It’s fine by me, lots of other places that will take my money without the fuss.

I hope they are reading this. This forum is probably the one that helped them get off the ground in the early days. They would be wise to pay attention to comments like this if they expect continued success.

There used to be someone from Zoro who posted here. Like so many others. I'm sure they got sick of all the whining, sniveling little ******* who are never satisfied.

When they beat you out of a few cents on your Simple Green, did you try calling them to see what the deal was?

I've bought from them as long as they have been around. I've done group buys for the guys at work the past 3 years. Dozens of orders, around $22,000 in that time. I bought some Starrett parts last week. Starrett had the packages marked wrong. I called on Monday, resolved the matter in a very short conversation, The correct parts arrived today. No charge.

They are part of Grainger. Their purpose is to give individuals and small business access to part of Grainger's huge inventory and distribution system at lower prices. I think they will be able to survive without your business.

Zoro is great but gets hated on a lot here. If you don't like them, shop elsewhere. I don't buy from them a lot as they're generally not competitive on price, but sometimes they have great deals at 20% off on certain brands like Knipex, OTC, Starrett, Reelcraft. Their customer service is awesome. I've had a few defective items received from them, mfg defects, and you just call and explain and a new one arrives in a few days

Zoro is absolutely excellent in my opinion. Fast shipping and excellent customer service when I've had a question. Maybe not the absolute bare bones cheapest but their site search engine is fast.

I usually buy a good amount from them for business. Zoro is the small business & general consumer end of Grainger (there is also Gamut, which they own). Over the years, their promo code exemption list has grown.

I've asked about this before and was told that over time, they've been contacted by respective companies and asked to exclude it at their request. This sometimes happens if the coupon will regularly bring the price down far below the price point for the market, etc.

What I will say, is always check around no matter what. For certain items, having the discount code available makes it a great deal. Other times, it's still considerably more expensive. What Zoro sells you on is convenience. Returns are very simple and their customer service is usually pretty great.

I've been buying from Zoro on and off for five years. They use to have 40% off, no exclusions. Then it went to 35, 30, now the norm is 25% off and loads of exclusions. They do have fantastic customer service and super fast shipping so I am not complaining but I must admit I buy less and less from them due to the number of exclusions.

Zoro is great in a lot of respects. The few instances where I dealt with their customer service team were handled perfectly. Their product selection is hard to beat. Some of the prices are very good, starrett being among them when combined with the codes The issue being raised is this exclusionary policy which began as something short and sweet and morphed into the card catalog you once used to use. That’s what I was commenting on. And no, for a few pennies on a bottle of simple green, I’m not picking up the phone. Even if it was a mistake, my comment about the exclusions stands and I’m not alone.

I’ve placed hundreds of orders over the years. Only $5-10k through Zoro, most of which was spent before their exclusions list “matured”. They earned a small fraction of the total spend. Their marketing tactics are one reason.

Edit: there are products excluded in addition to the brand restrictions posted below by Tinner. But this “discussion” doesn’t really belong on this forum, so I’ll end my comments here.

That is a long list of top brands,, in addition to those brand names the discounts exclude // include only certain product types. For me its too much fussing on what is and what isn't included in a discount. I'll maybe use them here and there but not like before.

Seems to depend on what tools a person is shopping for.

Everything I've bought from zoro so far is also available from places like amazon. Some tools sold on places like amazon aren't listed on zoro even when zoro sells the same brand.

Sometimes the lowest prices I've found are on zoro with a code, sometimes cheaper elsewhere.

No eTailer I know of stocks every tool or brand. No eTailer I know always has the lowest price.

IIRC zoro is owned by Grainger.

I'm not exactly a Zoro fan boy but I was just shopping Bulldog weld-on couplers and they seem to be pretty much THE cheapest on a lot of Bulldog products before even applying any discounts.

I used my $20 for taking the survey and it wouldn't let me stack w other discount codes. Not complaining but interesting approach as I would have purchased more to hit a spending threshold to *also* use a percent-off code. As it was it was a better deal for me to just order the coupler less $20 and I purchased my cutting tools (machining) elsewhere.

I am really glad I thought to look here for Zoro codes. Zoro had listed a 20% off $200 code, but they only mentioned it was category specific in the details. I had added a few filler items to get to $200 only to find the code didn't apply to most of my order. The Winter183 code applied to everything in my cart and no fillers required.

I bought three items and my price searches showed that Zoro was cheapest on all three items. I did look up a set of X-Frame wrenches and the price was over $100 more than the going price!
