Does highlight the point though. I always found proto to be a pretty good deal after the coupon as well. Still some good brands to be had even with exclusions. I do miss the glory days of 30% off everything.

I'm going to buy or make a parallel clamp rack. I don't have a ton but I slowly add more as I find deals or feel the need. As I ramp up my woodworking shop in the basement I'll likely need even more. I figure something like this:

Proto is the ultimate value for me. Almost all of my impact sockets and a lot of other misc. stuff (breaker bars, indexing pry bars, etc.) is made in the USA Proto that I've gotten from Zoro for anywhere from 15-25% off (been a long time since I've had a 30% - those were the days indeed).

Key thing to watch out for, for those reading, is that most of the part numbers have dual listings - one under 'Proto' and one under 'Stanley Proto' - and the 'Proto' one is always the same or often substantially cheaper than the 'Stanley Proto' listing, even though they are the identical items.

But this topic has turned into a lot of coupon begging and displays of laziness, entitlement, and a general lack of appreciation for what has and still is a great source of deals for a lot of folks. Recently there were multiple topics in the general discussion forum asking people to hold their hands and walk them through getting coupons. Is it really that difficult to enter an email address on the front page of a website?! Most were probably just fishing for a coupon because they were too impatient to wait or to lazy to look through their emails. It's ridiculous.

Every company changes prices. You are not entitled to getting 20% off the lowest price anywhere on the internet. That's a hell of a deal.

eh... that's because you're not comparing the full prefix.

the rest of the prefix identifies the coupon class. for example, 3TR is the three-tiered class (10%, 15%, 20% depending on cart value). or flat % class is like 15FF for 15% off.

then after the prefix is the unique part since they're one-time-use codes.

while i don't post full codes and instead ask people to pm (so people can take their time checking out and not worry about the code disappearing), this is why i post prefixes. just for info's sake for people following along so they can learn what kinds of codes are out there.

That makes perfect sense. It is interesting that they are doing some sort of A/B testing with the different values of coupons for the same campaign. It would be kinda cool to figure out how they determine who gets what level of coupon.

idk exactly, but i have several accounts and usually end up getting one of each kind for each campaign (but each account only gets one per campaign at most).

the timing and distribution seems random since i don't have a single main account that i buy everything on.

sometimes an account gets coupon earlier than others, sometimes later. sometimes 3 tier, sometimes flat discount.

but some accounts never get any coupons at all. i think this is for accounts that haven't purchased anything in years.

i've said this before, but make many accounts. this is the secret to getting coupons.

What I did in my garage as wall space is a premium was to store my Bessey Kbody clamps on 1x4's screwed to the bottom of my joists. They tuck up in the joist horizontally,resting on the metal bars and hang down about 2 inches at the handle. Maybe if your basement ceiling is open you can apply the same "trick"

Thanks for posting some pics! This would work for me, although I wouldn't be able to reach them once up as my basement has 8' ceilings (to the bottom of the joists). It's a problem easily fixed by a small stepstool.

I do like that it keeps the walls and floorspace free and clear!
