Gerstner & Sons

I love Gerstner boxes. A good pal of mine gave me an absolutely mint Apprentice box a few years ago and I’ve been kind of taken by the legacy of the company ever since. Recently, I stumbled upon an interview with the grandson of the founder of Gerstner. I thought you guys might enjoy it as well.

Very nice video on a company who's name has always been synonymous with quality. I am fortunate to have inherited my fathers Gerstner box. I'm guessing it's about 60 years old. What a beautiful piece.

I picked this one up on craigslist this summer. It is missing the front panel. I have yet to see another one with this drawer set-up.

I got one like this.
While going through the tools, I found a toolroom receipt from 1950.

I have a 1955 journeymans in oak & I just picked up a leatherette 41c model that is poplar.
Im stripping the leatherette & refinishing that one soon.
I am fortunate enough to have a shop a few miles from them. I stopped over & talked to the owner the other day after I bought the 41c.

I want more of them!

I believe I have one. I got it years ago and it is out in the shop. 1 drawer is missing as is the door IIRC. It also appears to have had the diamond mirror in the lid. I'll have to go look at and get some pics of it.

A couple of years ago,I bought a lathe from a friend.Just as a deal was struck, and almost as an afterthought,he said,"Oh yeah, there's an old tool box full of machinists tools to go with it".

It's not in the best of shape, the black covering is lifting as is the green baise in the lid.The front has come off but is there.
To be honest,I could tell that it is quite old and that it was well made but, until I saw this thread,I knew nothing about it.Thanks Ryan!
I'd be gratefull if anyone could tell me how old it is,what model it is and if the company can still supply spares for it.
Cheers,
Mark.
Found the Gerstner web site.
Got a possible date(early '30's) courtesy of 'machinistchest',thanks.

Definitely unusual. I have a number of Gerstners, but I have never seen that version. Great find.

My Gerstner’s 100 Anniversary series 92-XL Chest with matching 92-XL Base. On top of their B97DXL Riser and MD920A Roller Bench,, all in cherry. You can never have enough drawers to spread out your precision tools. I purchased this combination as a retirement present to myself..

The center top box is a1948 oak # 52 Journeyman Gerstner Chest that was given to me from a relative when I started as a tool and diemaker apprenticeship in the 60's.

The top left box is a Dunlap that was my father’s in the 30's. Sears sold them as a lesser quality toolbox than the Craftsman. The box to the right is a Kennedy 526 It was a Christmas gift to my I father that I purchased new over fifty years ago. It was $28.00,, I sold a lot of papers to pay for that! He bottom three are Kennedy under-boxes...
