Have A Vintage Wilton Vise?

I don’t know these guys at all… And no one put me up to this, I just found this promotion on the Wilton site and thought it was pretty cool. Essentially, they are looking for vintage Wilton vises with a family story. Submit your heirloom and you could win $5000 in Wilton stuff. I gotta feeling someone from TGJ is gonna win.

Check it out.

Awesome promotion. Free c-clamp just for entering, too. I'll be submitting my entry later on today.

Re: Have A Vintage Wilton Vice?

Too bad as I only, only, have an old Columbian and very old Athol. 5 vices in all, but no Wilton. Recently, I met an 85 YO Black woman whose father was a blacksmith and ferrier who lived in Virginia. She told me that he was called to Sarasota to shoe horses along with other famous places. I wish I could have seen his tools.

Now, she might have the winning story. But, I didn't see a Wilton at her home. :(

I wonder if growing up on the same street as the Schiller Park plant counts.. or maybe having cranked a 'home run' thru a window when playing baseball in their parking lot as a kid counts :)

I just got an email explaining how I spelled viSe as viCe... Sometimes I amaze myself with my stupidity. Fixed!

Mine is original finish, has original Wilton branded copper soft jaws, AND is from the Chicago factory.

But I am sure many others with better histories will surface.

Aw, this thread is just making me jealous that I don't have one.

I do, however, have plenty of old vices. Think that counts?

Red Leader, very nice and nice save. Looks too nice to use.

Don't worry, I already put a few scratches on it:D

I don't think I can submit mine for a story because I don't want to get my father-in-law in trouble for giving it to me after saving it from a requisition program (aka throw away wonderful, valuable items because the govt tells you to).

;)

Here's my Wilton 840... date code of 2-47. My garage was built in Jan 1947. This vise has never left this garage!

I have three Wiltons and I like them a lot. But I don't have a decent story for any of them. Still, a free clamp is a free clamp.

Mine aren't Verde Green anymore and one even has a home-made nameplate (I don't like their new logo).

Mine was a throw away when our shop downsized. Luckily the boss was nice enough to donate it since all I had was foreign made junk in my new garage.

Don't have a story behind it, besides it being with the shop for many moves throughout the years.

BTW, I noticed the pins on the back end of mine and I dont see any others with the same thing. Does anybody know what they are for?

Entered,
I do not know how old these vises are but I use atleast one of them daily at my job. I have another Wilton for home but I don't have my bench built yet.

Why no new entries?

Only 102, just like when the thread started.

And the vote leader's story *****!

I hate to be so cynical but after years of Internet experience I am afraid that the whole thing is a scam to get a bunch of email addresses to sell as a list of "people interested in vises." I changed my email address about 10 years ago after getting upwards of 70 per day. Now I am selective as who gets my email address and my spam is almost nil.
