Hill Acme Tool Engine Hoist

You are gonna have to excuse these terrible images – the content was so fantastic, that I had to post them. What are you looking at is a Hill Acme Tools engine hoist made sometime in the 1920’s or 30’s. It’s for sale, but it ain’t cheap. $3,500.

I’m in love…

Its beyond cool.
If I had that piece I could care less if I was pulling motors out of Model Ts.
I would hook something up just to work that wheel back and forth raising and lowering anything just to zone out while doing it.
Gotta love the manufacturer plaque too.

Instantly reminded me of mini truss towers:

Which come apart for transport:

And are still made in the USA!

Here is the bigger version I am more familiar with (they can go up to 35 feet...):

All are well over $1000 of course.

Anyone in the southwest Arkansas area need one of these hoist? I know of one that has been offered for sale--cheap. It is in the way on property my son leased; owner has tried locally to sell it, but no luck

My dad dragged one of those home from God know where about 40 years ago. Don't know what he had in mind for it or what he paid, and don't think he ever used it. He must've just "liked" it.

We sold it when he passed about 30 years ago.

I've seen it, or one just like it, kicking around at peoples houses in nearby towns fairly recently.

When steel was expensive and labor was cheap? And hydraulics very expensive? Wow. I am impressed.

Crazy thing is I worked for hill acme from 73-78. Made mostly large machine tools. Never saw any of those around but they did have some old strange mechanical things out in the back storage. There were several acme companies but they were all separate. I do remember seeing name plates like that around the building though.

The shop at the rutland VT air port has one, I spent the 4th of July a few years ago changing a PT6A-28 turbo prop engine with it. It freaked me out a bit at first, having close to 100 grand hanging on such a dinosaur, but the whole operation went off just fine.
The hoist I used had a chain instead of a cable.

I have never seen anything likethat before
I think it would fit so nicely in my 30s garage in side the party garage!

Now I'm on the hunt.
Thanks Ryan

I drive by one regularly. It's sitting outside, amongst old cars and parts. I'm always tempted to try and bring it home. No real use for it. They're just beautiful industrial art to me.

Not to bring back a thread from the dead, but apparently one of these was also used to build Fat Man: http://blog.nuclearsecrecy.com/2014/11/10/fat-mans-uranium/

HEY, I've got one of those and it glows in the dark!!! Reckon????:D

JK, the story on mine was that it was used in a cotton gin to move bales of cotton around. My wife wants me to hang a nailhead from it and plant petunias in the cylinders. Maybe, someday.. but for now the roses are becoming fond of it. Bought mine in with all the other "junk" on the trailer for $250. Here's one pic, See page 6 post 117 for more http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=248534&page=6
