One Royal Spartanette

We’ve talked about this one before on The Garage Journal, but since then the trailer has been finished, mangled a tad, repaired, and then finally perfected. The only thing more impressive than the owner’s documentation of the entire project is the final outcome. You can read the entire story here.

That is BEAUTIFUL. I would love to see some picture with the Lincoln in the garage.

Been watching it since the first time it was on the front page. :bowdown:

I've been following that build for some time. Heartbreaking when it got away from him. The guy certainly is a craftsman, I'll give him that.

Excellent work and craftmanship.
The concept is rather bizarre.
I bet the guy has spent more than my house cost.
and he ends up with only a car hauler!

Hey Barry... I could use some help on a PV-2D Harpoon...!!!!

I saw your Rig on the HAMB and thought to myself that your trailer would be the ultimate carrier.

As a restorer of Old Warbirds I can appreciate all the work that goes into an aluminum structure of that size!

More amazing is the documentaion of the build and the repair... Holy Moley... I don't think that we document our aircraft restorations that well.

Great project! My parents have the same model home that they purchased new. My dad was a mining engineer and traveled lots with the Royal Spartanette. As a kid, I slept in the living room on a fold out sofa. That trailer and Mom's washing machine traveled many a mile. They put their Royal Spartanette in a shed on their place about 30 years ago and there it sits. It is all pretty much factory original and in super shape.

The only thing that I have seen that needs any work is the broken exterior door handles. Any ideas where I can get replacements, like the ones that you found???

I was surfing for information on a new trailer project and I found the photo above and clicked on this link. I still have the trailer and another found me. It was a rescue from hands that should have never touched it. This one's more of a Restomod.

You would think that, but that's not the case at all. Due to its curved sides, and front and rear end there may be a spot of intense reflectivity, but those angles are rare. The walls of the trailer are curved outward in the center with the walls being 3 1/2" thick midway up and 2" thick top and bottom. Headlights don't reflect back to a driver in an intersection. The trailer pretty much disappears, especially on a wooded road. I added the conspicuity tape to avoid being hit from the side. It really disappears on an overcast day.

Yep, the only one like it.

It was not cheap to build, but 99% of the labor is mine, and I'm rather proud of it. I wouldn't know what your house cost.

Hey Barry, how are you? Good to see you’re still kicking!

I met Barry several years ago through the Lincoln club. The man is an amazing craftsman at anything he does. I did visit his house many years ago when I went to pick up a Lincoln in Michigan. That is as amazing as anything else.

Barry, did you ever finish that Lincoln limousine you were building?

No, when my wife got sick I lost interest in the project. When she got better I lost momentum and went on to build several more cars. I'd like to get rid of it.
