The Caretaker

I was browsing Vimeo the other day and ran across this great little documentary done by the boys of Petrolicious and featuring  Andy Greene and his shop. It’s a great space full of incredible cars… And thought you fellas might get a kick out of it.

Hard work often puts you in the right place at the right time... Of course, hard work often leads to a charmed life too... That's what is great about life!

Attention to Detail and Hard Work seperate the craftsman. Great video. I hope the future of the automobile involves more craftsman.

Thanks for posting this - I love to listen to "real" car guys talk. Not some one who payed to have a car built, not some one that just bought it off the lot, not some one who doesn't care if he drives a car, truck or minivan... but some one who has that bug, who has that spark, who for lack of a better term - has motor oil flowing in his or her veins. You can sense that they would rather do nothing if they couldn't work on cars.

All cars that are wrenched by yourself have a special feeling. its not just a glamorous car, can be a ratty ole car , or your own race car.

The ups, the downs, the frustrations, and the special moments that are priceless. The fast time slip, the grudge match.

memories that are priceless.

I have mine with Fox mustangs. It doesnt have to be an exotic. Some people look, some watch, some Actually wrench them and understand them. The best wrench them and Beat snot out of them and get everything out of them.

garage's are for parking and wrenching, the road and track is for the enjoyment of the vehicle. Its music, its power and its charm.

this is 1 of my race cars. Everything touched, motor, trans, rear, with my brother's help and My engine/machine shop Friend of 25 years. MUSIC.

Don't we all want to be that guy. I just don't want to deal with his customers...

What's different about driving a Ferrari, or even a Porsche to some extent is that everyone notices you when you drive one.

I seem to remember a particular administrator posting a video of his "morning drive to work" over on some other site. That was a pretty cool vintage vehicle too as I remember.

That 250GT SWB is my favourite GT car of all time. My absolute favourite one is the 1961 TT winning car driven by Stirling Moss for Rob Walker. I built a Scalextric version of it about 25 yrs ago:

Imagine my excitement when one day a couple of years ago I was driving to work along Baker St when I saw this:

Managed to have a quick chat with the owner at the next set of lights - he seemed impressed with my knowledge of the car! I was smiling all day!

I've had the pleasure of meeting a half a dozen or so guys like Andy Greene. I'm sure a lot of us have. They seem to be in a different zone and are fascinating people. You'll never know if your eyes had been opened to something new at a younger age if you could have been one of those people.

Spent about 2 hours last night going through the various Petrolicious and Depth of Speed videos. Really inspirational, thoughtful, authentic, and well edited/great cinematography....

After hour 2 my wife even started watching - that speaks volumes.

Thanks for the link, Ryan.

Hi guys. Thanks Ryan for posting the video I made on Andy Greene for Petrolicious. Andy is a great guy with an amazing history with cars, and a pretty cool garage to boot!

Jack, I saw the piece on your car and garage. Josh and the guys did a great job with that one. You have an inspirational place for sure!

Thought you all might like to see some more of my work for Petrolicious and others. Some garage related, others not, but all cars!

Hope you enjoy! Would love to hear of any cool stories, car or garage related out here on the east coast. I'm currently looking for some really cool garages in the South for a project I'm working on. If you have one, please get in touch! Stay tuned for more too, I've got a lot of projects in the works right now, more details soon :)

Many thanks for sharing your talent/work. For months now I have downloaded each petrolicious video as they come about and added them to a folder I have on a usb stick which contains all the depth of speed videos and a few Rauh Welt Begriff videos. The USB stick stays plugged into my flat screen so I can watch any of them at any time... I think I've watched them all at least 5x each. They're not just a video to me, not just something to watch and be impressed with when it's the first time. For me they offer a sense of englightment, that like others have mentioned, help when I've had a stressful day/week, or just want to unwind, enjoy, or get creative and bounce ideas around in my head.

The folder contains probably over 30 short videos now, 90% of them being the collection of all depth of speed and petrolicious videos. I love that I can grab a milkshake or something, lounge out on the couch and hit play and watch them one after another automatically and just feel an unparalleled sence of tranquility.

FWIW, I've often been told that I have a car that would be of interest to the guys over at Petrolicious, maybe when the time is right I'll get around to writing to Josh or one of them... or even you Frazer.

Cheers

PS - the Time Machine video Jack linked is one of a kind in terms of story telling. When I saw it, I almost couldn't believe the twist in the story.

My first car was a Morris Minor Traveler. I bought it without my parents knowing..
It was baby blue and the wood was in excellent shape.

I put curtains in the back windows (it was in the early 70s). It was a cool car and wish I still had it..
