The Craftsman Workbench Project

I have nothing to do with Craftsman at the moment… and I’m not being compensated to feature this video at all. I just found it interesting. And regardless of the overly commercial production, you gotta like the workbench.

2 things kept bothering me in that video. One why does the slat wall run the wrong way. 2nd was who in the heck stores saw blades like that? I liked the video, the antics, I could have done without, but letting the set dresser do that kinda blows the whole "We are all makers here" out of the water. Keith

Very nice bench and I like the re-purposed tool box drawers. I should do that someday for my own bench.

The video is good for inspiration only; I sure wouldn't use it as the instructions to build such a bench. I don't have the skills to build it anyway.

What a great surprise to see Owl Hardwood mentioned as I've shopped there before (they're in Des Plaines, Ill). And good to know about their sander. It's bigger than my fridge!

Good looking bench. Nice wood and joints.

The power strip in it's current (ha ha) orientation is worthless, though, and I'd be building racks and cubbies below to go along with the drawers.

As for the video, who's the demographic?

That's an OK bench for light work. Here's a sample of a simple bench with a solid wood top & steel legs that I build & sell.

Smells like a GJ video contest. Entrants send in an "under 5 minute" video of a garage project (flooring, bench, racks, garage makeover, anything garage related, etc...). They compete for some sponsored prizes.

GJ members vote and the best video wins.:rocker:

Nice bench, love the old toolbox idea... tho I would have inset and capped at least half of that laminated oak top with a sheet of smooth stainless... then again, I'm not a woodworker, but I could see that sawn oak getting beat up pretty quick. For the time and $$ of all that hardwood, I'd want it to last a while!

I thought it was a cute video, didn't mind the antics and like most of the design of the bench.

No castors. If you have to move things around, get a bigger shop.

I prefer open shelve, but if I'd a bought a toolbox to harvest the drawers, I'd a just set the toolbox on the shelf.

Craftsman boom box, computer and oil finish. I'll look for those, maybe.

Notice, there are no warnings to use grounded electrical devices only, to wear eye protection, to wear hearing protection, to not use the table saw without the splitter... . How'd they produce this thing?

Dave.
