The Lead Holder

I’ve never used anything else in my shop… I’m sure there is something better, but I am stuck in my ways. The great thing about a lead holder is that it can write on anything and what you write is legible and removable. My supply of both holders and lead has ran clean dry, so I got online and looked for replacements. Found em.

I still have a couple lead holders left over from drafting class almost 40 years ago I still use on occasion, along with my K+E drafting set and french curves. :) Still use my old electric eraser, too - some of the young engineers around here have been pretty impressed by it.

Speaking of roach clips and electric erasers. A couple of my friends and I "erased" a lot of work one day in class , then proceeded to roll a Zig Zag with the special weed inside . That was some funny chit when the class pot head lit up his lunch time toke.

Used mechanical pencils before, but the lead in these looks a lot bigger.
Have never seen them before.

Actually the usage of the word "lead" is a misnomer. The content is compressed, powder graphite. No lead to be found. Cool holders though.

I'm a huge fan of the Staedtler leadholders. I tend to bear down pretty hard, and the large diameter leads are great. Used in the shop, on the road, and in the right seat of the rally car....

These look smaller dia. than the OP items.
Are they?

The website shows them as being 2 mm, and the OPs is 5.5 mm. Quite a bit smaller, but I've used them and they are quite hard to break. I would imagine 5.5 mm would be pretty impossible to break unless you were trying.

Another thing that I didn't know existed, that I now feel I must have.

Used these for years as a designer. Still have a few floating around here somewhere.
But would really like one like the OP posted! Fat and Juicy! A big block of HB or maybe 2B or even 6B would also be great!

I sure like the Staedtler, use to have one years ago. I have a bunch of them carpenters penciles, bought the tubelar setup that came with sharpener from Home Cheapo. I have problems holding them nowadays sometimes, have holders for them too.

I had difficulty finding the 2.0mm in the US, but found someone in asia selling them on ebay. I got a softer (less brittle) lead for it, and it's great for shop use!! They also make a little sharpener that works well for the 2.0mm leads.

Ryan,

Thanks for "pointing" us towards this product. It works so well that my Beautiful Bride insisted that I buy her one for her own use, she does framing - of pictures & so forth.
