On the other hand, price out adding fixtures (beyond one) and making them motion sensor. By the time you're done dicking around with it, $130 doesn't sound so bad....

the Keystone GL-50 LED Utility Bulb has 4400 lumens, screws into the same socket and is far cheaper

I like this idea - are there more options like this? I want to light the area under my garage door (10x18' regular panel garage door) in my two car garage.
I'm struggling here, I don't want to buy 4 led garage strip lights from the orange store or bj's. They just seem so antiquated... But the keystone and this expensive led light seem to offer a simple solution...

I love this idea, I understand that products like this start out costing way more than everyday end user will typically spend. I'll wait till the price comes down and buy a bunch of these.

Great idea, just not sure how much I value a company that already has lighting products and what appears to be a nice office space, yet they use a camera that has less quality than a cell phone camera for their production video.
That and they never showed off the light. You can click other videos on their website, but shouldn't that be in the main product video so people know what they are supporting?

I like having lots of light, but hate when the light is not diffused. Using this in my garage, I would often, not on purpose mind you, glance the wrong way and look right into the bright LEDs. It seems way over engineered/overpriced for what it is as well. Good luck to them.

I wonder how long before it comes down.
Much better looking light. I was looking around for some retro looking lights and that might do. But I could probably make a hood for a regular LED light. It would be way cool if I could corrugate it.

Looks like someone slipped in their market research. This product at a minimum would need to be priced closer to comparable solutions on the market or provide added bells and whistles (features).

It's like a lot of Kickstarter pitches....It looks good, but when you thing about the true 'value' of the product it's questionable.......
I've supported a few Kickstarter campaigns and have been thoroughly disappointed in the end product.....Of course this does have a 'company' behind it which has produced other products......

It is slick looking and I like the motion sensor. But they video never shows it in action, plus motion sensing can shut off if you are working in one spot on a small project.
For $30 you can put this in your fixture, which I have 2 of in my garage. Throws 500 watt equivalent using only 150 watts. Way more then their light pulls, but it works.

Opinions & Observations:
Kickstarter is now used as a cheap way to promote new and existing products, rather than truly "funding" the development of a new idea (which was the spirit of crowd funding in the beginning). This appears to be the case with the TriLight campaign. They are going to have the product ready for shipment in November because they likely already have it built and ready to ship. They likely would have been selling it soon anyway.
This product has a neat satellite kinda look and provides set directional lighting with a motion sensor. The biggest advantage, convenience, which is covered in the relatively high price. You could certainly put together a cheaper system which probably wouldn't look as cool by cobbling together existing materials at your local box store.
Now if they would have hired Jack Olsen to endorse this product in his 12-gauge garage I would back the project instantly!

I don't feel like this is a good fit for most folks here at the GJ. Granted maybe a few but the majority seem to be capable of retrofitting a light fixture.
I second the comment on diffused lighting.
I also feel the color temperature looks to be closer to 6500k in an effort to increase perceived brightness. I prefer my lighting around 3500 to 4100k.
This would be great for most of neighbors who just park cars in their garage but not a solution for a workshop IMHO.
The big *** light IMHO is a better solution and also offers motion detection. 10,000 lumens. They also offer a 14,000 model.

Just watched the whole video waiting for them to show the difference between their light and a single bulb in a garage... didn't happen. I am in need of a solution like this for my garage since I currently have florescent lights plugged into all my outlets for some more light. I've never seen the lightbulb socket splitters that were posted earlier in this thread. Looks like the same thing for about $10. Will have to get it a try.

Bought one of these fixtures for my garage. Yeah, it's more expensive than it should be but I did find a $25 coupon that lowered the cost. I thought it might replace one of my LED shoplights with the added convenience of a motion sensor. The light was well packaged and has a look of quality even though it is made in China (designed in the US though). Smaller than I thought it would be and very light. Screw it into the light socket, select motion sensor or not and turn on the power. It's nice that you can fold the LED panels to direct the light but that also distributes the light in more directions meaning the overall area is not as well lit as you would expect with 3000 lumens - at 5400K (25W). The motion sensor has a 90 sec timer that is not adjustable and the sensor itself uses microwave tech so it has 360 degree coverage and is extremely sensitive to motion. It comes on with the slightest motion in any direction which any motion sensor I have experienced cannot compete with. It does not have a daylight sensor so it will come on even when it is light outside. Will it replace my present lighting? - no (although you could concentrate the light directly down which would make that area brighter). But, I like it since I never need to turn a light switch on/off when I walk through the garage at night or drive in. It has plenty of light for that.

I watched the video but wasn't all that impressed with the light. Not a bad idea, but when you come right down to it, motion sensor lights are not something new nor are LED lights. The only thing different with this light is the shape looks sort of like a satellite. Kind of nifty, but nifty doesn't do anything for lighting. Sorry to say this idea didn't impress me all that much.
If you cut that plastic bulb cover off those bulbs you get a hell of a light.One of these for about $5 ...
Plus 3 of these for about $3 each...
