Trusco Box

The Trusco was first designed in 1947 by a witty Japanese man. The early units seem to last forever and you can still find them on Ebay in top shop. And while I have no idea if these new reproductions are worth a damn, they sure are pretty.

About two years ago my oldest son worked for a company that dealt with Chinese imports. They company would receive many sample products. He brought home what at the time I thought was a very unique tool box resembling a fishing tackle box, filled with many basic hand tools. He still has it and it has proven very handy. The tools where a few grades better the HF. The only difficulty was making sure the tools in the box where arranged correctly, if not the box would not close correctly. I had no clue that there was a history around these boxes. They never brought the product into this country.

Pretty interesting, in that art deco meets import tool box.

Something of note:

This box is not made in China... It's made in Japan. Huge difference between the two these days.

And, isn't it sort of ironic that "Made in Japan" is kind of slang for "Handmade" to hipsters and what not? There really is a lot of cool **** going down in the country right now. As for this box, I've never handled one. It could be complete ****.

Toolbox's like that are quite common in Japan. Every site I worked had one for the tools needed for whatever process done in an area. They seem to be well made probably more Craftsman than Snap On. I've also seen them sent with imported Japanese machine tools containing accessories for the equipment.

I have one I bought new around 1970, and used it for years in the floor of my truck(s). Very rugged and satisfactory to use until I put too many tools in it.
It's retired now. I think I paid $11 for it from a hardware store. There is a recent one in a pawnshop. Not as well made as mine.

I have a cantilevered tool box I inherited from my dad; when I get back home I'll have to see what brand it is. It is red.

I have a British cantilevered tool box at my Dad's house. My favorite one is a Kennedy cantilever box that I use to organize drill bit sets, taps and ez-outs.

I had never heard of Trusco boxes until now. I ordered one from Hand-Eye Supply. I received it last week but it's so nice that now I don't want to put anything in it.
