Walk Thru Garage Doors

I stumbled on these garage doors and thought they were interesting. Essentially, they implement a man-door in a working/traditional garage door. At first thought, this might seem like a double up of sorts but in certain applications this could prove to be really handy.

You can check them out here.

I'm VERY interested in this type of door... I've seen some posts about this lately on the forum....
only thing is... My house is brand new, ie, 8 months... I have a new "overhead" brand door.. is it possible to add a man door?
there's no real feasible way to add a man door to my garage, except in the garage door like this... any options?

There was a link from the main garagejournal page that went here (http://www.walkthrugaragedoors.com/index.html). It looks like they had one for a standard garage door as well.

Years ago at a shop I worked at we had a metal garage door with a man door built in and it was kind of a joke. The metal door would sag a lot when you opened it up.

Those things have been around pretty much as long as there have been roll-up doors...I've never heard of anyone who had one, say that they would do it again.

Generally they pretty much ****...Too much movement of the hinged components and the whole thing gets sloppy / misaligned over time.

My man door is behind a gate on the side of the garage, leads to a small room that is apparently a sump pump museum, kind of a pain in the *** place for the man door. If my garage doors weren't brand new, I'd be calling those Canadians.

I got a quote last year on replacing my two 9 x 8's, one with a man door in it. The man door more than doubled the price of the two garage doors.

Good day to all!

As owner of WalkThru Garage Doors I would like to make myself available to answer any questions you may have about this great product. In doing so, I will help clear up any misconceptions.

I concede that the product is not inexpensive....especially with the more non traditional doors. But like most other products used and consumed by man.......quality and value comes at a cost.

I look forward to future chats with the fellow members.

My grandfather used to have one of those wooden garage doors with the man door back in Brooklyn, NY when I was a kid - loved using it!

In this thread there is a charge about what happens to the door with the effects of age and gravity. Can you give us any information to show that the doors you are currently shipping are as stable as the doors that were properly installed 10 years ago or more?

Pass through doors are nothing new. Many overhead door manufacturers such as Clopay and Overhead produce such products. We do not produce this type of product, and I have only personally been asked about it one time in 10+ years.

Hello everyone. I am new to the forum. I want to purchase a Walk Thru door but I am having a huge problem locating a dealer or store in Philadelphia, PA or nearby. Can anyone offer a lead as to whom I can call???? I know I can order it from Canada - would very much like to go into a show room to talk with a sales person. Any lead will be most appreciated. Thanks.

Hello again,

I must apologize for not staying on top of your postings.

Yes, there are manufacturers such as Overhead and Clopay that offer a "pass door" or "wicket door" in their commercial lines. Residential installations and door faces are much more problematic and need great attention. This is where we shine

We've been doing our thing now for 15+ years and the very 1st WalkThru Garage Door built back then is still in operation today.....it measures 16 x 10. I will concede that it is showing its age. We've done several things to improve the product over the years.

With respect to the chap residing outside of Philadelphia, contact me via our website and I'll be happy to put you in touch with a past customer (a garage door professional) for you to contact and perhaps visit one of his past installations.

Good day to all,

Germain

Most shops around here have at least one door with a man door, I thought they were used everywhere. I've seen shops with no independent man doors, just these.

They're nice to have, don't know what else to say about that.

Dead thread?
Anyone can possibly disclose pricing? I called the Walkthrough Doors, someone supposed to call back..

Is it something that is installed into existing door or entire new door has to be installed?

Anyone?

I too am interested in a walkthru overhead, garage door. Application is for a masonry, industrial building. Require heavy duty, weather tight, commercial use construction. Am interested in hearing form forum members with FIRST HAND, long term experience.
