TTP Hard Drill Bit Review

A couple of weeks ago, TTP sent  over some bits to review along with a can of their Cut-It lubrication. This morning, I fired up the drill press and got to work comparing the TTP bits to my long-time  Viking favorites. To put it short, they are pretty impressive…

Nice testing method -- I like real world testing, doing stuff that actually happens in the average Joe's garage. Can you show and/or tell us how you sharpen your drill bits? Thanks for the video. :thumbup:

I use a Drill Dr. with inconsistent results. Usually after sharpening, it's about 70% as sharp as it was new and lasts about half as long. By the time I've sharpened any bit in my set three or four times, I've sharpened all of them at least twice. That's when I start thinking about a new set.

Thanks for the good review Ryan I've been getting some "better" bits, blades, and semi-consumable stuff. I think I'll get some Viking bits. Love the Craftsman drill press!

Did you measure the holes to see if the bits were drilling on-site?

I did not... And yeah, I probably should have... I wasn't trying to get too technical. I was just trying to use the bits as I would normally do in a very condensed time period.

I like the idea of that paste. I mostly use Tap Magic and keep little bottles of Craftsman lube handy - never thought about a paste.

I considered a Drill Dr, but since I don't drill many precision holes I just keep extra sets of common sizes up through 1/4, bought at HF with a coupon. When they get a little hinky, toss and re-fill the index with new. I keep a big number+fractional set in reserve for better quality holes.

I've been hearing a lot about Anchorlube for drilling and tapping; it's soap-based and seems to work similarly to the TTP paste.

Anchorlube has been around for over 50 years. It is THE lube for drilling and tapping stainless steel.

Where are you finding the pricing you talked about in the video? Online prices I have found are $3 a bit for even the 1/8, that is outrageous.
