It’s December and officially cold. Okay, so maybe it was only 65 degrees yesterday in Austin but we still like to pretend it gets cold down here. But for most everyone else it does and the declining temperatures can wreak (thanks wil) havoc on your garage and the things in your garage.
Here are five ways to winterize your garage:
1) Purchase a weather stripping kit for your garage door. The kit will come equipped with everything you need to seal the top, bottom and side edges of your garage door to prevent cold drafts.
2) With the snow and wet weather you’ll be tracking in a lot more dirt and mud into your car, garage and particularly your home. Place floor mats by your car doors and entrance to your home to help pick up the extra grime.
3) Insulate any pipes that may be exposed. If you have running water in your garage, you should wrap faucets as well.
4) Clean and oil your tools to prevent rust. Keeping your garage warm and dry will extend the life of your valuable tools.
5) Consider insulating your garage to prevent damage to pipes, tools, lawn and garden equipment and vehicles. Insulating your garage will not only help to keep it warm and dry in the winter, but will help to keep it cool in the summer as well.
Another reason why I will be moving to Houston, TX in the spring. I am just plain sick of the cold weather and having to bundle up everytime you go outside.
