I bought the same model 5 years ago and it’s a great little machine. Always starts right up and goes to it. I’ve been using up a package of trim string I bought probably 25 YA and finally needed to purchase some new stuff. I’ve tried that multi sided string this year and I think it’s not letting the auto feed work smoothly. It pulls itself out so hard it cinches up on itself in the drum because of the multiple edges on the string hang up on themselves. I’m going to try a smooth round string and see if that fixes the problem before I continue to fight my way through this whole package of the new stuff. I also realized after a few weeks of getting the trimmer you don’t need to use very much throttle on most of the trimming your doing. Enjoy your new toy!
The owner of the mower shop, before I even paid for the machine, said “here, let me put a better head on it for you”. I’m sure he charged me for it though lol

I thought he was up selling me, but I look in the bin, and there’s a damn pile of the stock heads.

The one he put on there so far has worked decently. My only complaint is how quick I am going through string. It might be because how neglected the edges are, and how everything was THICK.

I will say this though. It goes through just about anything. Small trees, woody weeds. It just does not care.

I did have a couple issues with it not wanting full trigger. It would bog, and slowly go to idle. But I noticed that when it does that, it means the string is super short. A couple bumps, and she’s back to full speed. Which isn’t as fast as a 2cycle. But that’s why I got it lol

Anyway, I hope you get your string feed issue sorted, and you can get back to edging/trimming. Happy mowing!

IMHO, Taco Bell is a questionable choice at any time, but you had to know the "outcome", if you go in feeling unwell.
I agree lol. The top end was because of the migraine though. If I get them bad enough, it’ll happen. The backside probably was the migraine too, but most likely the Taco Bell hahahaha
I can tell you are much younger than me - after working both ends I'm not leaving the house.
But I vaguely remember that I would have in the very distant past.
If I get a migraine that makes me regurgitate, I “generally” start feeling better.

Plus there’s a popular hiking/biking trail near my house. It has portojohns at every trail head. With my IBS and stomach issues, I KNOW where they are lmao. I’ve had to stop at a couple a few different times while driving to and from somewhere, in the past. I plan very carefully hahahahaha

Started a total body panel repair on my old 74 K20. Truck doesnt get much thanks for all the work it does. Plow & wood truck. Several areas have rusted to the point of holes. Not likely to spend big bucks on paint, but I’ll explore options. A 71 C10 in rough shape sold for 16k here two weeks ago at an estate sale, I paid 3k for this in 78. Pic is of inner fender where over lapping bracket traps water. Compound curve well matched using hammers, thick pipe, rebar, vice & anvil. No heat. Gotta be carful not to get into one thing leads to another.9E5F54AD-0A2C-4384-9484-B8167C1BD6D5.jpeg5B37BCBC-8AFE-4AFD-BF55-CCC9C541619D.jpeg

We've been working on the yard, flower beds and garden the last couple of weeks, so no garage time except sitting in the doorway and cooling down during breaks. I did manage to change out the rubber jumper hose on the air compressor that has been starting to swell, but had not leaked yet. The new hose is rated at 2000 psi, so hopefully no further problems.

Fender back on & bike off the stand. What a ******** PITA that fender is..

ZRX11: 4 easily accessible M6 Allens, no need to pull the fender to get the wheel off.

ZX11: 4 screws that are accessible & 4 bolts that are damn near impossible to even touch with a finger tip, have to pull the fender to get the wheel out. FFS

One of my harleys I have to pull the mufflers off to get the rear wheel off.

Had a 1" thick plate of mild steel, I drilled and tapped (4) 3/8"-16 holes, installed (4) elevator bolts...
Et voilà.... I made myself a sanding plate for truing up mating surfaces...
Surface has some shallow hammer divots, I'll be sending it over a machine shop to have the top surface ground flat...
Just need to order some sheets of adhesive faced silicon carbide sandpaper...

Imperial graphite stove paint/polish. It looks better when it dries

I have 4-5 quarts of ancient ARCO graphite oil for that - it works great on exhaust for a finish that in my experience, doesn't' rust again. I learned it the "hard way" spilling some on an exhaust manifold adn it went from rust to black adn stayed that way, So I did it more...

My only complaint for that stuff was it seeped at the seals a bit (But so will Synth on older worn engines). but it worked, and I could count on a couple MPG better than plain Dino oil - this was well before synth got popular.

Got the radiator re-mounted on the inside of the shell. Got the chin pan reassembled, and a/c hoses routed again. Reinstalled the wiring harness and various connectors.

Then got the hood back on.

And spent the rest of the afternoon arguing with the various things to get the hood aligned and reasonably straight. It has never been right, but I think I got it pretty close now.

Had the (electric) pressure washer cranked up to blast off the tractor and mower yesterday. I had just dropped 5 gallons of diesel in the Grasshopper and the empty can was within range. I've had these cans for 40+ years and the funk that has built was was pretty extreme. Bad enough that gloves were needed when handling.
I shot some Blechwhite on the can and let it sit for a few and then hit it with the sprayer. WOW !

I went to the barn and got out the rest of the vintage plastic can and followed suit. Some of these gas cans have been used since the 70's and showed it. Love the old cans with NO government intervention.

Ahhh, the simple joys of being retired.

Nice work. What's your process for heat treating?
Thanks!
I bought a Mr Volcano forge off Amazon, a very well built, affordable propane forge.
Going to try using that. This is 5160 spring steel. Some have great luck with canola oil, others say get something like Parks 50. Not sure what I am going to do. Paul Bos does all the heat treating for Buck knives and his prices are super reasonable, so I am tempted to send them off to him.
The first knife I made was 1095 steel, I heated it up in a blick lined ammo can with a mag torch until it was non-magnetic and quenched it in a soda can filled with vegetable oil and it skated a file.

Put the rear wheel on the ZX11

*spidey sense moment*

Took the rear wheel off the ZX11

Put the rear wheel on the ZX11.. with the outer left axle collar the right way round...

I assume it's been installed backasswards since it last got new tires... 14 years ago.

14 years?! I thought I was pushing things with 9 & 10 yo tires on my KTM. I have new Dunlop GPR300 waiting to get installed. I will confess the Road Smart 3's on my FJ are probably 4 years old now with less than 1k miles on them. Maybe I will ride that some this year.

Since you brought up sanding/surface plate, do you know if it is true that you can use glass for this? We had a glass coffee table, the top got cracked so I saved the legs. Probably 18" x 14" x 1/2" glass plates. I was saving to use as a surface plate. Anyone know about this?

There was no sign of them being dried out & cracking etc, they looked new & hardly had any wear. I bought the new tires for it last year, but the thought of throwing out what looked to be damn near perfect tires activated my scrooge syndrome.

Unpacked the grille guard & for the most part cleaned off the top of the workbench so I have room to spread out the grille guard hardware & tools when we can install it on my wife's Bronco Sport over the weekend.

Had some fun building a "Lone Wolf McQuade" Ramcharger 1/24 scale body for my Proline Ambush R/C chassis. The model kit has been gathering dust in the attic since sometime in the late '80's, was cleaning up and came across it, had forgotten all about it. Still have a few details to add - door and license decals, whip antenna from the back bumper curled up the light bar.

I thought about adding the dirt and mud spatter so it would duplicate the one in the movie, but....nah.

My wife wanted a little utility vehicle, so we picked up a nice older S-10. It's a 98, but it only has like 113k miles on it. 4-banger stick shift. Everything works on it, AC, cruise, CD player and all. But man-o-man was it filthy. The guy was a smoker that must have worked at a quarry. So the inside smelled like a bowling alley, and the wheel wells were (still are, lol) caked with gray/white "mud" that the car wash couldn't cut. It's pretty rust free for an Ohio vehicle. Just a couple small spots here and there. No holes or anything.

Anyway, what did we do in the garage today? The wife worked on detailing the inside, while I cleaned up the bed, patched the exhaust, and fixed the e-brake. The e-brake pedal wouldn't hold because the spring was bound up with gunk. Cleaned that all out an lubed it up, and it holds good now. But my knees are pissed at me for crouching on the ground and contorting under the dash...

On those, I have reached into pull the hood latch on three s-10s and the cable has snapped and left me struggling to open the hood. Do yourself a favor and order a cable and change it out now, that’s a weak spot for those. otherwise will be great to have one around for a lot of little hauling jobs..

I'll add it to my list. I need to order a back door handle and a pair of speakers so far. The factory speakers are falling apart and sound crunchy, lol.

We finally got the kit car running! Actually ended up spending two weekends troubleshooting and then we found out the coils (left and right) were wired backwards...

The image isn't it running. It's backfiring through the intake with the backwards wiring.
