Thanks Ctuai! The bow has been well-used and no decals or maker on it. Looks like it could still be used though.
For sure. As long as the tips aren't broken and the limbs aren't delaminating they will shoot forever. A string and a handful of arrows and you're ready to go. The people on Archery Talk -- Traditional Archery are a great source for getting your recurve set up or shoot me a message and I can give you some thoughts on getting it going.

I’m going to post a lot of mystery items from the hoarder mechanic’s garage in hoping to learn something from the collective GJ mind. Found a box full of these, what are they? Marked with different sizes ranging from SR12 to SR40. Some are solid and some are hollow.

So you thought that was incredibly cheap? Or you were upset you didn’t get it?
Incredibly cheap. Just too heavy to transport and I've already got a vintage drill press. Here it is a Delta/Rockwell. Though about disassembling and selling it piece-meal and for sure would have made a bunch, but it seemed a shame to break up such a gorgeous machine. The mini jet lathe went for $100, which was also a deal, but once again don't need one and would have been a bear to ship.

Nearly finished with emptying the trailer with tool boxes and carts from the Hoarder Mechanic. Will send pics of the carts later. All of the drawers were emptied and initially sorted by types into the coffee cans and boxes. Here are a few highlights.

Cool little cans, some packaging and a long C Craftsman sharpening stone, Shell promotional tapes, BIG crescents and pipe wrenches, Craftsman tool box with allen keys and cool brake cylinder hone, green tool box with wooden handled screw drivers and some Vlchek.

Michigan And Florida too!
@3baygarage ***** for the swivel sockets. Those always allude me.

@3jakes ***** for his nifty haul. I would have bought all those too.

@brockmub really ***** for finding that honeyhole. I'd be all over that lathe and drill press.

I have fond memories of the gas station cassettes! I think mine were from Total and were in rotation in my Grand Prix.

@ctuai ***** for the odd sockets.

Thanks for the **** on the odd sockets. Interestingly, when I emptied my vaporust container I found 2 more for a total of 10.I've got the T1230 -28 -26 -24 -22 -20; T1219 -18 -16 -14 all in 12 point. None Better really are better. I'd even venture nicer than the Craftsman =v=.

Can we see what's inside the AMMCO box? Is that the brake hone?

My ReStore has been dry for a few months but I scored some stuff this week.

IMG20230524115015.jpg

Proto 8" adjustable.

IMG20230524115036.jpg

A 14" Barcalo.

IMG20230524115050.jpg

18" Ridgid

IMG20230524115109.jpg

Corona pruning shears.

IMG20230524115456.jpg

A Craftsman socket set that isn't missing pieces!

The case is falling apart but it doesn't appear to have been used.

IMG20230524120417.jpg

For 13 bucks, I'm happy!

You ****. Especially for the Craftsman set.

All of the tool boxes are emptied and now it's time to start putting stuff away. Some stuff is going back on the trailer to storage for a bit just to keep the garage usable. Here's the Matco box I bought PACKED. Might have had a side box on it, the old guy might have taken it off when he bashed it up, there were some other drawers and a trim piece that didn't fit right so it was taken off. There was another Craftsman cart as well, packed full of junk. There was an old tire balancer that looked cool enough to grab. Tons of wrenches, a lot of Craftsman there too, one with a long C. Found these boxes for socket sets too.

Lots and lots of sockets. There is probably a set or two in there but it's going to take me for ever to find it. Some nice ratchets though and a few I haven't seen before.

Estate sale ($50): Oil can and funnel; 3 in 1 oil; Globe fish tape; Sioux corded impact drill; Propane kit for shrinking electrical sheathing; Grommets kit; Delta Shopmaster sharpening stone; Argon and acetylene tanks; Crosscut saw; Hand rivet gun; Diamond wrenches; Lathe wood chisels; aluminum push pull rods; Spiral binding system; 2 military winches for electrical cable ($42.50).

I must admit my grabby side got the best of me. When the door opens, you've got to be ready to hopefully grab not as much as I did. This is from the garage sale with the vintage drill press.

Estate sale ($30): Athol no. 2 vise. I'm such a sucker for vices. I just couldn't pass picking up such a hard luck vise. The vise has separated from the base and has been brazed back on. On top of that the screw has been sheered to a nub. Still, she is a looker.

Ha! I was the lead actor's sidekick in my HS production of Brigadoon. When I exited the stage in a kilt someone in the audience let out a big wolf whistle and it was an involuntary reaction to flip up the back of the kilt--brought the house down!

In an estate sale photo, I spotted a large old socket-set-looking metal box partially obscured by a stack of towels. Even though I was in the third group they let into the sale, it was undisturbed--still next to the towels when I got into the garage. It was under a Taiwan set that was priced at $12. It was encouragingly heavy and only had a $8 price tag on it. I opened it and was simultaneously thrilled and disappointed. It was full of interesting tools and one completely decomposed cellulose acetate-butyrate driver handle. I knew then why they were only asking $8. Seems like we could get a class action lawsuit going against companies that kept using this nasty stuff that has ruined so many tools...

25 May 23a.jpg25 May 23b.jpg25 May 23c.jpg

Anyway, upper right has off shore and other junk and some unidentified rods. None of the rods have ball stops but the smallest has a tiny wine bottle indentation where something was attached.
Center top is the Bonney collection. I feel confident this was a Bonney socket set although the box has no sign of any Bonney marking.
Upper left are the orphans: Plomb WF-77; sad S-K Wayne socket that was next to the driver handle; Walden 5/16 Spintite; Husky Uni; Goodall Pratt punch; three pieces of a Sears (Japan-BK) 1/4" set; Proto mfg socket and Proto LA 708S adjustable.
I was surprised the little penknife open easily. If I looked up the right "Selig Co." they've expanded from disinfectants, soaps & waxes into a large chemical company.
To the left is the Snap-on group. The 1935 F70A was hit hard by the fumes. The offset flat screwdriver may not be SO, but it has SO's cloverleaf symbol for 1932 on it along with H-50 and what may or may not be owners marks: C. G. Fair (double struck due to the curve of the handle and the letters didn't line up exactly)
Also of note is the Bonney T2 Offset Handle with most of the Bonney sticker still attached.

25 May 23d.jpg

25 May 23h.jpg25 May 23k.jpg

Finally, a $6 wrench roll--no wrenches--that I need Lugz to decipher the numbers on.
Best I can make out is:
C.H. ELLIS CO., INC. (still in business!)
MFG'D 1957
STOCK NO. 5140-322-6009
41-B-2737

The tool area had some Vlchek DBEs laying around but this roll has rust impressions of DOEs.

Well that is a new one for me. I have had a black screwdriver break down, and I have had some that smelled like vomit… but that one left a path of destruction…

There are so many good tools in that box… I hope that you can save them all.

I've had a few die like that. Scarring the tools nearby. My last was in a wooden Union box, so it didn't take out part of the box like OR's did, but fouled the felt.

That looks like an aerial of some ancient burial ruins.

I’ve seen similar green hammers. Sadly one of my black Stanley’s (I think) is following a similar path.

Old Radar- great haul in that wild box. Between the Snap-On and Bonney. i like those old offset drivers too.

The "missing" center section is simply a 3/8 drive plug. It was designed to be pushed thru the center if you needed to tighten/loosen. Though I guess in the case of that ratchet, it could simply be flipped over?

Didn't realize these showed up so early!

Scored some tools this week from someone selling “assorted tools” on marketplace. Thought I saw one or two SO tools in the lot they were asking $60 for. When I met them, I made sure to contain my excitement when I saw what they had.
Snap-On 10, 13, 14, 15, 17 combo wrenches
Snap-On 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18, 19 deep well 3/8” drive sockets
Snap-On 8, 9, 11, 13, 16, 17 shallow 3/8” sockets
Snap-On 10, 11, 13 shallow 1/4” drive sockets
BluePoint multimeter
BluePoint 16 oz ball peen
Craftsman torx T8-T60 (pretty happy with this set as I don’t have one this complete)
Proto 1/2” ratchet
And probably 100 screwdriver 1/4” bitsCDC77D4B-D6A2-4EB2-AD07-B9FF48E4249D.jpeg

At the end of the contents of the trailer, which is good because it probably fill it back up again. Was able to use the Matco to store tools instead of random garbage/wires/paper. Here's what was pulled out of the Hoarder Mechanic toolboxes, punches, taps, screwdrivers, and pliers. Interestingly there were two rolls of Xcelite inserts and about 40 individual inserts floating around in there. Not something I've seen a lot of previously, but now suddenly have a ton of. Next up is unloading big stuff from the pickup. Sorry this is taking so long to do, only have a few hours in the evening to sort and then it starts all over again on the weekend.

Still, she is a looker.
The antique wingnut helps overcome the snotweld.
...simultaneously thrilled and disappointed.
That thing was left untouched for many, many years to achieve that look. I would almost be tempted to secure the driver and all the desiccated pieces and powder and the pattern of the rust on the lid in place, as is, with layers and layers of polyurethane, and frame it as a museum piece on the effects of offgassing! :)

First off that's a worn "R", for "Roll", not a "B" for "Bag." There were "Bags" in the Ordnance Dept inventory, but they were handled in Class 24 (Duck, Canvas, and Tentage), not in Class 41 (Hand Tools). I don't have a wartime record of 41-R-2737. There are no rolls with that FSN in the ORD SNL J-15 (Tool Benches, Cabinets, Boxes, and Rolls). I did find it in a 1956 PS Magazine. It's interesting how they are still citing the former format FSN along with the newly established 11-digit FSN as late as 1956. The new format was established in 1953. You know how long it takes for things to sink in, especially with supply clerks! Enjoy! :)
