I'm working on a complete combo set of the final version of SUPERRENCH. I can't locate any catalog info on the largest sizes (larger than 2"), so I still may be missing a few. The photo contains all the ones shown in the catalog page, plus: 1191: 2 1/16, 1192: 2 1/8, 1193: 2 3/16, 1195: 2 3/8, and 1197: 2 1/2. Since I cannot locate a catalog or cut-sheet showing the sizes above 1190: 2", I don't know if 1194, 1196, or 1198 & larger even exist.

My grandfather has a set of superwrwnches of this style from 1/4 to ≈2-1/4.
They are good wrenches from what he says.

I was happy to find an ignition pouch at the flea this morning. It's later than I collect, so putting a near-complete pre-war Chro-Moly set inside it is a little anachronistic, but it's better than the ammo bag where the other partial sets and orphans reside. I've been picking up these Superrenches onesy-twosy for years and I have enough wrenches to nearly fill a complete Chrome-Alloy and Alloy set as well. It's nice to finally find one brand-appropriate roll-up for at least one of them.

Came across this extra nice No. 1999 "Multisocket" wrench with original orange paint last month...
This is a great find, and appears to be from the JHW's short-lived panel-wrench era. I've seen a couple of posts showing much earlier (non-panel) versions. I thought yours might show up in the JHW catalog 302 (the panel-era catalog), but I didn't see it.

Sorry about the poor quality but it’s a screen shot from a video. It’s about the locking adjustable wrenches. It’s in a 1957 issue of popular mechanics, there is some other neat ads so I’ll link to the video.

I was Superexcited to run into this near-complete Williams CROMAL set at the flea this morning. (I sweet-talked my way into an even better than normal deal by giving them the 411 on an antique fireman's wrench they had no clue about.) I have plenty of cadmium-plated tools, but maybe none as intact and as milky white as these wrenches. I found references from 1936 right up to summer 1941 when chromium started becoming a controlled resource. I love any DBE's with round shanks and these are beautiful to hold as to behold.

Those are slick! I have 1 or 2 of the short ones I think if you’re interested.

I think the prevailing wisdom on that is that they were either CROMAL or Chrome-Alloy, OTG. Note that only the largest wrench in that set I just found is actually marked CROMAL. All the others are marked Chrome-Alloy, but all the other markings are identical. There is zero doubt that those wrenches came as a set.

Kinda what I thought. I think I have another smaller one somewhere. Cool little wrenches, very nice to use with the round shanks. I wonder if the switch to flat shanks may have been influenced by the use of wrench set clips

I think that this is the only Williams tool that I have. I bought it a long time ago in an auction job lot. It was still thickly coated in old Cosmoline and so probably came over to the UK in WW2. That would also explain the "SPECIAL FINISH".

The hook has been ground down in comparison with the 474 shown in post #122. If I remember correctly, the C spanner in the Packard Merlin tool kit is usually stated as being a 472, but could my 474 have also been for use on that engine?

Here's an early f50 ratchet. Williams initially used an f prefix for their 3/8 line of tools, then switched to the b prefix

Going through a bin of old wrenches I've picked up over the years at auctions and I came across this one. Is this a Williams?

As mentioned in the 2023 Garage Sale Thread, I found this (MC-1001?) box (with key) and contents on Craigslist. It supposedly came from a closed mill in the Mon Valley. I believe it falls into the mid-60s/early 70s Williams production. The are a few random wrenches, etc. but the contents are mostly the full line of Williams' 1/2" drive tools - S-52 ratchet, sliding tee, breaker, speeder, sockets, and some "still in plastic" hex sockets. From p. 45 of the 1963 catalog #505:

I picked up this socket box the other day, and I was wondering where I can find information about it. These are for Williams budget line, correct? What years were they in use, and were the tools marked differently?

There’s not much known about these. Early is my guess. Not sure on the budget part, other than less markings on the tools. The ratchets were a different shape and pretty much same as the “Volume” branded stuff..

As I posted I. The Garage Sale thread I think this is your set.
IMG_2277.jpeg

I think you nailed it SKTF. That page was from the 1970 catalog #307, right? I did an inventory today and I was missing only the S-53, the three extensions, the universal and the SB-30 drag link socket. I was able to find all of them except the SB-30 in my box-o-williams stuff.
