Some of this mornings find. Nothing spectacular! A Stanley H1209 vise for $2 a Harris weed burner new in package for $15, an ammo can, wrist rocket and couple of nylon belts and a couple muffin pans for a buddy’s ingots. IMG_4721.jpegIMG_4724.jpegIMG_4720.jpegIMG_4719.jpegIMG_4722.jpeg

Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. My last report was... holy smokes!... five weeks ago!

That's what going to Europe...

20230829_210433.jpg

...for 3 weeks, followed by work trips, nagging housework and yardwork, and being broke will do to you. :)

Speaking of Europe, all yous guys flunked my little close reading comprehension test. The prices for all the antique flintlocks and pistols with all the eyepopping 0000's in my post from back in early August were expressed in Euros and Koruna! I was in this shop...

20230805_110314.jpg

...in Prague at the time. :)

This morning was the first time I have been out to a flea market since July 23rd, it felt great, and I was delighted with my finds.

2023_31.jpg

Left to Right, Top to Bottom...

- Book is 1903
- The vinyl snap pouch holds a combo interchangeable screwdriver bits set and flashlight! (Many of you who have been here a long time know my funny bone for early British Empire Hong Kong imports, the gimmickier the better, and this kit definitely tickled it!)
- Nippers (new addition for the burgeoning Bernard collection)
- The unusual combo Button's pattern / linesman pliers with even more unusual (for Button's or lineman's) spike and driver handles are S&H era Red Devil
- The curving tin snips are very well-made in Germany with awesome markings
- Pliers/strippers at the bottom are Klein. (I've seen the odd attachment before, but I forget the purpose.)

Self deprecation doesn't go down very smoothly here on the GS thread--especially when you actually ****!

I picked up an H1210 earlier this year for Four Times that price but luckily was able to flip it for Five Times my purchase price!

I love the wrist rocket, too!

@Private Lugnutz Lugz, too bad you couldn't bring that warrior's throne back with you--a special addition to any home!

I just looks at the pictures.
Snerk.

Hey now, that's not just any throne. That's the "Iron Throne," forged at the order of Aegon the Conqueror, the first of the Targaryen kings, who rode dragons and conquered six of the seven kingdoms of Westeros and unified them under his rule, allegedly forged from the 1,000 swords that had been surrendered to Aegon in his conquest by the lords who had offered their fealty. :) (Seriously, I'm not a GoT nut, but I couldn't resist the pic, in Dubrovnik, where much of the series was filmed.) Vacation slide show (sort of!), here, then scroll.

It would make a cool toilet, though.

Some LEFT-BEHINDS from this morning...

Truck in 3rd pic is selling live crabs. You may remember someone set up a headlight cleaning station on the way out. Now this. I'm gone for a few weeks and the place turns into a menagerie.

😂 I should have clarified, I was very happy with vise it more the other stuff. I think I have been spoiled this season with some good scores tool wise. The wrist rocket is cool technically “illegal” in my ****** state.

Welcome back to this side of the pond. I was a bit worried you might have gotten caught up in the net on FREE PARKING,apparently there was some banned folks/longtimers/political/religion no-no's and Ryan banned a few folks( no I really didn't think you'd be in the bad category). I don't usually read FP, but that thread caught my attention and read through it. Anyhow back on track, good to see you picking again and I'd bet many ,including myself could gain from reading a book on composition and rhetoric.

Worked on the Reed 3C for about an hour and a half today, wrestling around that 120 pound vise in 90 degree weather is tiring! The top of the slide was used as an anvil and I'm still working on that.

I found a few sales to check out on Craigslist but none mentioned tools. The bulk of the tools we found were at a TOO in Meyers, CA. This hammer was found at the first sale put on by a former seller at the closed up Tahoe flea.IMG_0197.jpeg
IMG_0198.jpeg
These are the items from the TOO. The license plate dustpan was too cool to leave behindIMG_0200.jpeg
A Stanley screwdriver and a Taiwanese lookalike, a 1/4” drive Giller ratchet, an unmarked little display adjustable wrench, some Xcelite blades next to mystery sockets. A bunch of Craftsman sockets and a Barcalo DOE.IMG_0196.jpeg
Found an old Union box and a little Snap-on ratchet wrench at another sale.IMG_0213.jpegIMG_0202.jpeg
Found some hooks at the last sale and my wife picked up these Oakland ashtrays. IMG_0201.jpegIMG_0189.jpeg

Kind of a slow day for sales, we had 5 on the list, skipped one, but one of my perennials was open so we stopped in. $5 grabbed everything but the sandpaper and Felco blade. A Blue Point TM 64, no bits no box, but that's ok, what has a carburetor besides my OPE stuff these days. Crescent GH010 end nipper, aluminum scraps, and ty wraps. Met lots of dogs while getting coffee, so a poor day redeemed.

On Friday, I needed to be in the other end of the state to do some business for another hobby of mine, and while I was there, I figured I would check on a couple sales. The first one I hit was a bust, but this was the second sale and the pictures, for once, did not do it justice. There was an early Monarch bench top lathe, a type A I believe, several mills, vintage table saws, metrology tools, you name it in the world of vintage machine shops. I was there on "make a deal day" and while I could have spent a few thousand, I held my ground. I did pick up a vintage lathe milling attachment/dividing head, a Starrett box (empty), several milling cutters, and a Morse #2 dead center. If the sale wasn't three hours away, I would be back there today! But, I had a medical thing scheduled for today, and once I figured that I was off on my timing by four hours (ha?) I decided to stick around, as it is the first home game of the season, and the last year of the conference, so I knew that getting back into town would be a royal pain. So, I hit the sales. And did not have as nice a day. I did find a Blue Point DBE (dated '45), an oil can, Case 6347 stockmans knife, two boxes of old screws, and a Adirondac chair.

So I went to a vintage electronics garage sale and picked up a Pioneer SX434 receiver ($7), Marantz 24 Tuner/preamp console ($7), Fisher 8 track ($5) and Tek 2465A 350 MHz scope ($85). He said the Pioneer and Marantz did not work. I got home and plugged in the Marantz and it works just fine. (AM, FM and Aux). The Fisher 8 track also worked just fine.

The Pioneer was dead but I like a troubleshooting challenge but this one was too easy. I opened it up and the first thing I noticed were two missing fuses. I replaced the fuses and plugged it into a dim bulb tester to ensure no over current situation and it came to life, no excessive current draw and there's nothing to explain the missing fuses. I could see blown fuses but why missing fuses? I played it all afternoon and it sounds great. All these items were in perfect cosmetic condition.

Also a nice leather case for $1.

Heck, that was worth it just for the Jimmy Swaggart tape! A classic! :p

That is nice. Looks like it has some width to it, too, not just for documents.
It expands to 16" X 6" and has 6 separate compartments and too little side pouches for ?? (maybe glasses, pens, cell phone)P1100962.JPG

Estate sale ($40): Quiver; 5 Tru Flight arrows; Ash 5' self bow; Fiberglass 4' bow; ISI 0.5L whip cream dispenser; Meat tenderizer; CIN T Co 2" clamp; Stanley No. 25 6" Sliding T-Bevel.

Only the 2nd bow I've come across and this one is in way better shape w/ 5 vintage arrows and quiver is a win.

okay, so this wasn't exactly procured at a garage sale - it was more of a "tradesies" kind of thing - more along the lines of "you clean up all this **** out of my back yard, and I will let you haul away all these valuable treasures" - and this gem (along with a running self-propelled lawnmower) were the only "keepers".

Craftsman rotary lawn sprinkler.jpg
before I put this on ebay I figured I should ask if there are any lawn sprinkler collectors here ... I know Outlaw collects hose nozzles, but that seems like a different genre .... or maybe a Craftsman aficionado who is hellbent on collecting every item that ever had the Craftsman name stamped on it?

Not a tool, but I've been wanting one of these for awhile. $20, never used with a few extras thrown in. Either a table top mame setup or a streaming hub for the tvs.

Put this in the Long C thread. Still NIB, cardboard insides and all. Just gathering dust on a shelf. Not sure if it is the safest way to do this...

So there was a Townwide "Green" Garage Sale in the next town over on Saturday so we hit a few stops. A "Green" Sale encourages people to give stuff away to interested parties instead of tossing things into a landfill. Mrs No_Garage got some sewing bits and bobs for free and I grabbed a bike rack for Son_No_Garage to use on his car.

We hits some other Sales and spent a few bucks on stuff. My finds included a pair of Wiss "inlaid" shears, a pair of apple wired ear-buds with the $9.00 lightning to 3.5mm adapter, a low-profile cord extender and a paperback copy of Michener's SPACE.

IMG_1301.jpeg

The shears were clean and sharp. This makes 4 pairs of "inlaid" shears - one being hand me down's from "Grandma Ida" who ran an upholstery shop in Millburn NJ at a time when women didn't run businesses.

Cheers

Jim

This may not be the most amazing deal but I was happy to find it. Picked up this grizzly dust collector with a couple of accessories for $50 at an estate sale. It'll get put to good use once I finish enclosing the carport to make a shop.

That will be nice. The separator lid is handy when doing bulky items like planing or jointing.

Been putting together tool sets for both my daughters. I feel it’s important that they both have their own tool sets. That way they learn to be independent and not always having to rely on someone for something as little as hanging a picture or whatever. (Oldest just changed a battery in her friends car with directions from me over the phone. I was a proud dad.)
Anyhooski… stopped at a flea market and found a Few things. Not all for the girls either.
Typical Craftsman wrenches.
One cool long C Craftsman.
Metric Allied wrench set
Mac double socket end
2 SK wrenches
Hardly ever find any Plomb tools. So had to grab this Plomb battery pliers. Just cuz.
$10 for all. Not terrible.

My wife picked out a sale Saturday that I initially had no interest in but she saw a few kitchen items that looked promising. As she roamed the kitchen I headed out to the garage and was confronted with the typical array of cheap import hand tools but hidden ln the back of a shelf and not featured in the website pictures was a Norton 5" random orbital sander and a Craftsman vise, Japanese manufacture, 5" jaw width, 8.5" opening in excellent condition, never beat on. $24 for the sander and $65 for the vise was more than I wanted to spend so we paid for the kitchen goodies and left. Since the place was nearby we went back this morning for half price day and the sander and vise were still there, $44.50 for both. The vise is, I believe, the largest offered by Sears at the time, model #891.5181, pipe jaws and swivel base, about 40 pounds.

Yesterday’s auction haul. (Half my brothers stuff)

I don’t have a addiction, I can quit when I want.
It looks worse than it is, for some stupid reason they wouldn’t accept a bid under $10, if they couldn’t get that the would just group it with the next lot so I ended up with a bunch of lots I didn’t want.

Got this cool old apartment complex mail box, plan on using it as storage, but I got no keys, fortunately the back opens so I was able tho take to locks apart and open all the small doors.

Might get some closer up pics of stuff when I sort it tomorrow.
