I’ve been wary of Amazon and even YouTube reviews of late:

Curious if anybody here has a garden hose reel they love? Preferably wall or ceiling mount.

I have just received a new Suncast sidewinder house reel. It is a replacement for the reel that was about 20 years old.

I threw my reel and my hose in the garbage and now use high quality expanding hoses and stuff them in buckets. Life is much much better.
This is what I have now: not loving it honestly. Sometimes I just want a few feet, but I have to unravel a whole bunch of hose to keep flow rates up.
ELEY. Buy once, cry once.
Same with hoses. ELEY.
I’ve been looking at them. Might use a cheaper (flexzilla type) hose.

The self retracting hoses are sure tempting too…

I used plastic stationary hideaway hose reel boxes for many years. I tried a more expensive Ames aluminum reel, but it was horrible to move around. (Unbalanced, and tiny wheels couldn’t go over a pebble without tipping over.) While it seemed pricey, after reading recommendations here I caved and got the Eley two-wheel cart and found it worth the price.

Then I bought the extra wheels to make it a four-wheel cart. (Sorry, I don't have experience with the Eley wall mount.)

So impressed with the quality, I bought 50’ of Eley hose. Then another four-wheel cart and another 50’ of hose.

Then I needed a Y splitter and a leader hose for my dogs’ water bowl.

I still have a cheap Ace Hardware nozzle, but I’m not sure how much longer that will survive!

Eley

The nicest part of these reels is that they are made from billet titanium, or at least they are priced as if they are.

I had one. It was great until the gear broke. Then it won't even work as a manual one we'll.

I got an eley and haven't looked back.
I’m curious what brand you had?

I’ve been looking at the hoselink.

ELEY is on the short list, but I’d love a good reason to knock that hoselink out completely (the auto retract is very appealing.

Also: I’m getting frustrated with that ELEY website: it keeps freezing up on me (across several devices)

I bought a pair of wall mount metal garden hose reels by "Reel Craft" way back in 2005, made in USA. Northern Tool was the source if I recall. Zero problems. One is mounted to brick, the other on wood.

I love my Eley.. I really do, but needing two more reels I choked a bit and bought two Gorilla brand from HD two years ago. I’m very happy with them and they still work and look like new. @$149 a piece, I’d recommend them IMG_9144.png

I'll add the 1,304th endorsement for Eley reels. I've owned two wall mounts and now a 2-wheeled cart reel. Zero issues with any of them. Mine sit outside covered in snow all winter with zero issues. With the latest reel, I added a 100' Eley hose, and it's equally great. Buy once, cry once.

I came in here to say the same. The only reason to keep crappy old hoses is for draining things like the pool/hot tub. It's amazing how much an old hard rubber hose can make you swear. The flex hoses only make me mad when they get caught under a tire....

I use these from Home Depot, nothing fancy, made of plastic, but it has held up longer then any other hose reel I have had. Love the level wind guide. Makes it easy to real up with one hand!

I need a new hose reel as well as my wall mounted unit is starting to crack at the mounting points. I have a 5/8" Flexzilla Hose installed on it. I wanted to switch to a rectractable reel such as the one from Giraffe Tools on Amazon. I was also looking at the Flexzilla Pro Rectractable Reel but it's only available with a 1/2" hose.

Are you able to replace the hoses on these reels? My initial thought was to get one of the Giraffe Reels that come with a 5/8 Hose and swap in the Flexzilla one I have.
