I’m guessing that you probably already have one of the 3in1 oil cans but If you don’t I got one.
The Iowa Hawkeye and the early H.D. Smith are very nice finds, Mike. Well done.Another two headed wrench to go with his brother...[ ]...H.D Smith 660 screwdriver.
The old school toyota "teq" logo always brings some good money. Nice find on that!
I hit a very nice estate sale, way out in the country. Not much in the way of hand tools, but a lot of interesting storage items, saw mill tools, and farm items. I am trying to hold back on what I buy, or at least make sure I find enough stuff to sell and cover the cost, but I did find some treasures: Proto Torque manual, Greenlee gouge, Starrett long pin punches, Starrett long tap handle, Stanley 98 marking gauge, two right hand Spintites (homemade), and to sell a Toyota tool kit (these bring good money from the JDM crowd). Saturday is half price day, and unless something really exciting comes up, I will be back for that!
This counts as a **** in my book ! Well done.
Wow, nice find on those 7/16 blackhawk sockets. Those are about as rare as hens teeth around these parts. While out running errands today, I stopped by the one sale that was of any interest, and then the Restore afterword's.
At the sale I found a set of Lectrolite DBE's, while I was lucky enough to dig out of the socket bins a bunch of Blackhawk 7/16s drive sockets. And while I was digging, I found a Snap-on and Proto LA to boot.
But the real score came from the thrift a few weeks back:
Japanese Homes and their surroundings, 1886.
Dont think you could have done much better with a gun and a knifeI've had an automated email alert setup on CL for "Delta Drill Press" for several years. 98% of the alerts are spam or Chinese homeowner toy DP's. About once a year a vintage Delta DP shows up but they are either basket cases, incomplete, 15" or grossly overpriced. This time I got lucky with an ad for a beautiful 17-600 machinist model for $175. Since the ad was 13 hours old I suspected it was long gone but called them anyway. They returned my call right away and it was still available. I offered them $200 cash sight unseen and told them I could pick it up in a couple hours. (decided to highball vs lowball). It's really nice. It's dirty but there's not a blemish on the table and nothing's missing. They threw in a whole bunch of big drill bits, a rolling drill bit index , a Palmgren and a Simplex vise and a few other items.
The owner said he had a few more things he had to get rid of. One of them was a Delta grinder in excellent shape with lighted eye shields. He said $65 and I said I'd take it. I've seen a lot of homemade stands but the stand for one is built like a brick *********.
As I was about t leave the owner asked if I was interested in a Kennedy toolbox with a mic, caliper and misc. I told him probably not but said I'd take a look anyway. Out comes an absolute mint Gerstner machinist chest cram packed full of machinist tools. He said $100 and it's yours!

Nice "Winter Workbench"Got all this for 10 bucks. The workshop was pretty cool!

Heads up - the snake shaped reverse gear wrench is a Bonney Ford kit wrench and a Bonney guy might need it....suspect most go into scrap iron bucket, but will check out the Ford wrench #'s for collectibility before doing that.

Good eye, I didn’t even see the third one!You **** for that Stanley 2101A brace--but I should actually withdraw it since you didn't scoop up all three the guy had hanging on his pegboard! You could have cashed in nicely on ebay.

“What is a vise?”

So it has been a very long time for me to post on here. I just got back from a sale and had to share with some people who would appreciate what I found. So the listing was for “Tools of all Kind“. I clicked on it and scrolled through the pics. Most was garbage, but the last pic had a vise in the back on a workbench.
I messaged and asked about the vise. I live about 30 minutes away and wanted to see if it was there. I got nothing back for 3 days and then I got a message back…
Here is a run down of the messages…
Me. “Is that a vise still available? I live pretty close and can pick it up.”
3 days later
Them. “What is a vise?”
Me. (I sent a pic of a similar vise)
Them. “This is my Dad’s stuff. Yeah it is still here.
Me. “Great! I can be there soon. Where am I going?”
Them. “ I’m not ready to give you the address yet. I’ll get back to you.”
2 days later the listing was marked sold
2 days later.
Them. “Here is my Dad’s number message him.”
I messaged the Dad and set up a time. Just left with this guy. I paid $50!11
Not a good sign!
Your persistence paid off, though.
While running an errand this morning I found this on a curb. Seems to work but slowly. No doubt needs some TLC. Free is good.![]()

Is that one of those locks that you push the key in and it opens the shackle? not unlatch like a conventional lock, the key is operating the shackle.-USN padlock marked “ELECTRIC”
Very interesting, 3eeb. I found one back in 2020 - but mine was locked onto a BELL SYSTEM B toolbox hasp! 2020 Garage Sale thread post linked here, Bell System thread post linked here. No key. And one that Jeff made for me, sight unseen it should be noted, long distance, did not work. So it's still on the box. Fortunately, the box was open. Same design, different marking. Is yours a Corbin?USN padlock marked “ELECTRIC”
Look like a piston ring expander to me.
