I hit a Thursday garage sale, which turned out to be a moving sale for a retired carnival equipment mechanic. He didn't have all of his tools out, but if you showed interest in what he did have displayed, he would gladly take you to look at everything he was willing to get rid of in shed/trailer out back. And it was good stuff, albeit much of which I have already and he was pricing things competitively. In other words, he knew what he had and what its value was used. Smart guy, with a lot of interesting experience. Anyway, here is what I did buy:

Two Starrett 436's, one 5-6 inch, the other 6-7 inch, both in original box with wrench, standard and additional reference material. I also picked up two additional standards in the box. I am going out of town today (anniversary) but I am going to check back with him later.

I spotted a Lincoln Weldpak 175 on Marketplace for $200 yesterday, so I had to go pick it up. It came on a cart but so badly done I'll just scrap it. No sooner got it home when I got a call from a power company telling me I could come and pick up a Miller XMT450 welder I won on line the day before. So my afternoon went to driving to Louisiana to pick it up. Total for that one wit auctioneer's graft and tax was $675.

Yesterday and Today....

Vise Grip 7WR, didn't realize it was not stamped Petersen-DeWitt until after I paid for it! Boo! lol
Stanley Hi-Viz utility knife....real easy to find in the bag or box.
Craftsman 1/4 ratchet
Indestro Super 1/4 spinner
Ace Hardware pocket phillips 0 screwdriver....I'm a fan of the wings logo.
Mac 10mm wrench
Companion 10mm wrench
Older style USA Craftsman ratcheting wrenches in 1/2 and 9/16
Vintage Chicago area Oil Supply thermometer, took it off a beam in the basement

20231020_170709.jpg

Craftsman VV 94496 10pc SAE Super Tuff wrench set in seeming unused condition, pouch has some blemishes. What is odd is that 13/16 was not printed on the pouch, but was in the case in the same condition. Printing mistake or why did they leave it out? Kinda odd.
Craftsman pump pliers 45375 WF in new condition with sharp teeth and shiny chrome.
Craftsman 9pc VV Metric socket set

And the leave behind...if the logo was better, I would have bought it....

While running an errand this morning I found this on a curb. Seems to work but slowly. No doubt needs some TLC. Free is good. 👍
A quick update, all I had to do was replace the jack fluid and bleed the air out of the system as per the online operators manual and now it works well enough to keep. No rebuild needed, thank God. Unfortunately someone was spray painting near it in the past and there's some orange overspray at one end which I'll have to figure out how to safely remove. At least it's not rust which I initially thought it was.

1963 catalog shows a 10 piece set, no mention of 13/16" in the set. The 10 piece set was in the catalog through 1981,and replaced with an expanded 12 piece set that gained you 1/4",5/16" and 13/16" but removed 15/16" and 1". And like Outlaw I wouldn't have left the drill index behind, but Oak Park you seem to find the cleanest Craftsman Tools I can recall . 1697846512853.png1697847991956.png

This report is a little embarrassing. We went to get flu shots this morning and I thought we should check out a garage sale in the area of the clinic. When we arrived at the location of the sale, there was a gentleman in the driveway washing his pickup. I asked about the sale and he told me that it was on Saturday. Big oops! Anyway, he took pity on us and let us look at the tools. Talk about being an early bird. Here is what we came home with.

The little pliers are very faintly stamped "Sheffield England" and what appears to be 1016 or 1046. I thought the pattern was kind of interesting.

I am probably missing the obvious here, but who made the large wood-handled screwdriver marked "Worcester - Chicago" ?
:dunno:

this was all contained in this nice plastic tool box. can't beat free. ;)
My guess is factory in Worcester Mass and Chicago?

Great haul Oak but I think that Long C index would have come home with me. I've never seen one that style.

Wow, those wrenches are pristine!

I agree, why not offer $3 and get a new label printed?

"...one also marked Globemaster."

there's the "aha!" moment.

knowing my late step-father's propensity for acquiring low-end tools, that would seem a likely candidate.

what was that identifier again?

LesserSon said:
"... nested diamonds meets arrow fletching” grip pattern ..."

make a note of that, guys!

Wonder if Dave455 can confirm that for us?

Hit up an estate sale yesterday, not much for tools but unpriced stuff was fill a small bag for a dollar so I got 5 bags worth! Also got the full gallon of Zep cleaner and an unpictured Coleman new in the box 220 globe for a total of $10. That's the first 2 photos. The red handle diagonal cut pliers are Gardner Bender. Then I went inside and walked around and got a rough tool box with a few tools and a few other pieces I found for $20 My favorites are the Ford plow wrench and the Heller hammer with a nice stamp.

I like that Heller hammer. Any idea of the weight? A 1 lb hammer like that was included in a WW2 Jeep toolset. IMG_5783.jpegIMG_5784.jpegIMG_1784.jpeg

You ****, especially for the KitchenAid attachment. I bought one of those last Christmas for my wife. Works great, I need to remind her to use it again!

Thanks, I figured it'll pay for itself after a dozen uses and I can make it how I want it.

I'm still on the hunt for the pasta rollers.

No dearth of sales, but the selection was dismal overall, so minimla brought home - I only spent $7 total:

First was a freecycle PU, I wouldn't have been interested except it comes with a big stack of Grid and note pad inserts The calendar was dated for 2002, so over 20 years old, never used...:

FFC1 Planner.jpg

Only tools today were the Crestalloy NN, adn the small stubby that caught my eye - m markings so far, maybe under the grime?
Candles (80) clips, adn string which I was near out of.

Y1 80 candles Clips, String Cresetalloy NN Stubby driver.jpg

Second to last stop: a couple of storage tubes:

Y2 Storge tubes.jpg

And from the same place, an 8 ft whip from Mexico. And that was it!

Finally went and got that Wilton bullet accidentally left behind last Saturday at an estate sale, it got shoved way underneath the cashier table. It's one of the nicest Wilton's I've had and because of the Wilton copper jaw covers left the steel inserts sharp enough to cut your finger! The Wilton was $125. Also pictured is the other stuff in the basket.

Finally my score today. A plomb valve tool and a fleet ratchet from the neighbor. I lost my high voltage gloves bag years ago around someone's barn so I was tickled to keep them clean and safe.

I stopped by a friends garage yesterday. His Aunt gave him his Uncles old stacker toolbox. He kept all the name brand tools and said I could have what's in the milk crate. They are no name tools, Torx, Screw Drivers Extensions, Ratchets and Sockets. I'll give them to the have nots. I did mange to get for myself:

Snap-on # FP22A 3/8" Drive Socket
Duro Chrome # 4644 Clutch Tool
Proto 11mm wrench
Buck Bros Chisel
Blue Point Snips
Stanley Flat Head Screw Driver
LeverWrench needle nose vice grips
Fleet 3/4 Socket (I'm missing about three sockets to complete my Fleet tool set. This was one of them)

So, the wife and I were supposed to go out of town Friday, but due to her getting sick, that has been postponed and I found myself with time on my hands after doing all the things I normally do before leaving the house for a few day. Well, you know that that means; I went looking for sales!
53276920141_8b30124972_b.jpg
And due to time and distance constraints, I did not find much. But, after hitting two estate sales long after they open, and then a Restore I did find some things of note. The Stanley socket chisel (along with a little shelf thing for the wife's bathroom) were from one of the estate sales, while the Duro/Indestro ratchet, small screwdriver, GM&co chisel, Sheridan pellet box, and Goodell Pratt scraper were from another. The Restore yielded the Snap-on and two SK Wayne wrenches.

And on Saturday, again due to her illness, I got a very late start hitting the sales, and only came home with the following:
53277283954_1e998842af_b.jpg
It was the first day of real rain, and all the highways were a mess, further delaying me, so I made an executive decision of what sale I would do best at, and I chose poorly . What looked really good in the ad turned out to be cheap tools for the most part, and i was only able to come away with the following: Belzer tube wrench, two VAR cone wrenches, unused reamer, square 3/8" extension, two Bicycle Research cone wrenches, Gedore DBE, Japanese spoke wrench, Armstrong wrench, and, the real treasure, two bits of Campagnolo; a wrench and skewer quick release. And while there was a bit of interesting bicycle tools but no complete sets, and certainly not as much of interest as I hoped. Oh well, so it goes.

That Campy crank bolt wrench is known as a "peanut butter wrench", although I don't know anyone who ever actually used one to spread peanut butter.. I used to have one but it disappeared somewhere along the line (grrr ...).

Nice find!

I hit a sale yesterday marked as a "widow of a mechanic of 48 years." It was mostly a mish mosh of different USA made brands but I think I did well for $25. She initially told me $10 and I gave her $20, then I picked up the IR air hammer for an additional $5. She knew the stuff was worth more but told me she was exhausted from trying to sell it all and was happy to see people have her husband's things.

Left to right: some sort of unmarked auto body bumping hammer (possibly), an USA made sledge, and a DISSTON USA hammer (any ideas what it's for), numerous USA (2 Taiwain) air hammer bits, NOS IR air hammer and chuck, Snap On air hammer, MILTON blow gun, Wright Tools 32mm 12 pt 1/2" drive for a friend who collects Wright stuff, NOS Hitachi grinder discs, unmarked large chisel, Proto drift pin and rolling pry bar, unmarked center punch, Snap On small punch, Crescent 5/16" nut driver (I thought it was a Snap On but was wrong), unknown tool with black and gold handle, 2 local advertisement pocket screwdrivers, and a Caterpillar brake adjusting tool.

Anyone know what this is? The tip appears to be brass.

As others have alluded to the mystery tool is a windshield lock strip tool

***uhh, leaving that long c drill bit index behind is something I think you will regret. There's enough logo there I think most folks would be excited to have.**
Actually, they were made for a short time in 1942. Mine was made by Vollrath.

**you are correct. This is a somewhat uncommon canteen. I dabble a little bit in militaria collecting and my interest was immediatley peaked when you posted this. I'm not trying to buy this but if you don't want it, I think you could do decent on ebay with it! There's a surprising amount of canteen variations all produced in ww2 and I can't begin to remember them all but there are lots of good threads on them**

I'm surprised as I've never seen one, ever. I looked it up and apparently they made something like 5M of them in cheap steel and black prcelain. I've seen hundreds over the years too. Heck I own over a dozen, WWI/WWII canteens. Never in black.

Me too. None of mine are black. Something else to look for.
