Parts showed up this afternoon, but I had already left, I am now at the Salvage Garage, needed the hydraulic power pack for the jacks to change the tires on Dad's truck. I basically did everything I was going to do tomorrow morning so I don't have to do any of it tomorrow. In theory, I will have a mostly uninterrupted day to get some things done. I am going to unload the stuff I brought over to the SG, then head over to Dad's to pick up his truck. I may start not he tires tonight, just depends on timing and how I feel.

I did get to finally remove the flexible line from a propane tank at one of the tower sites, had to use a sawzall to cut it off, then a 1" drive breaker bar with the correct socket. There was no room to do anything else, there was hardly enough room to do what I did. Now I need a plug to install in there and I should be ready for them to deliver propane. Also going to need to find a steel tank lid for the 500 gallon tank.

I could only squeeze in between the tanks sideways, then only one arm could really reach the location, it didn't help that everything was heavy and nothing seemed to fit easily. The extension I grabbed had a 1" to 3/4" adapter and the 3/4" sockets I brought down were too shallow. If I could have cut the flex line a bit closer it would have been much better, but I really didn't have enough room to choose where the cut was.

Parts are to put the existing axles back together, axle swap is a 2024 to 2025 thing...

Got Dad’s truck into the Quonset hut, tomorrow I will have to get the rear wheels jacked up, might be able to use the outriggers, but I need some spacers they are not long enough to do much good. Hopefully I can get the tire swap done without completely killing myself, it has been a while since I have swapped tires around and I am sure doing eight is going to be lots of fun!

The equipment place I dropped off the snowblower to sent me the contract, the 10% is only on a $10,000 value, it is a $1,000 minimum fee. I told them I would need to see what the estimated value would be before I could agree. Probably do it regardless as they are going to have a better pool of customers since they are the dealer for the brand. I think the guy that told me 10% is probably used to selling $30k machines, so it is always 10%.

If they sell it are they a 3rd party seller? Refund or warranty falls on you or them?

Do you think they would even offer anything to you or was that a discussed?

Looks like they would sell it as is where is, I didn’t see anything in the contract where I would have to warranty the blower.

Been working on Dad’s truck tires since about 3:30, first couple weren’t too bad, then I ran into two really old Michelins. They tend to be soft and when the runs corrode they make the bead stick like it is glued on. I beat them with my bead breaking hammer, I am going to try my impact driven bead breaker next, last resort is to use the outrigger on the crane, but I have to get one side back together as those are my current jacks. The other issue I am running into is the corrosion on the rims, it is taking a lot of time to clean them up, too much for the battery powered tool, so I have to haul them up and use the air tools. I figure I can probably get everything done except the last two tonight, then start fresh with those suckers in the morning. Or I get ambitious and keep pushing forward tonight, just depends on how things go. I have three tires on rims that have been cleaned, getting ready to seat the beads and add air next.

The tires, especially the Michelins were dry cracked pretty well.

Not too far, maybe 30 minutes.

Well, the inner rims are toast, the lips are worn to a sharp edge, so I have to get some new rims tomorrow (unfortunately not until afternoon), then I can finish things up. At least I don’t have to mess with the nasty stuck beads now. I cleaned up the last good rim and then mounted one more tire then shuffled things so I am ready for tomorrow. If I had the rims I could finish tonight no problem. Oh well, just another wasted day that I can't fully dedicate to anything...

How do the inner rims wear like that? I'll have to look for that on bucket truck. Bet those rims are big money?

Stay safe out there, looks like guy has disappeared.

Not on a tower, but I had to push on the tire to show how deep the cracks were.

I suspect that the guy is not looking for more action, he is either sleeping or has gone underground. If the cops do find him, I expect there will be a bunch of flying steel.

The inner rims were much older than the outer rims, this is common with aluminum rims wearing the lip, Ford trucks are notorious for it, pretty much anything that is loaded heavy will eventually do it. These were bad enough that a tire place would most likely say they wouldn’t mount any tires on them. The rims aren’t terrible for what you are getting, they cost about $300 each, a lot more aluminum than in a car or pickup truck rim. They produce a ton more of them and they are standardized so they fit the majority of the trucks and trailers currently on the road.

People are way overblowing this ****, all the banks are closed, thankfully I have almost enough cash and the guy will take my check for the difference, otherwise my entire weekend would have been screwed up. Seriously though, at any point on any day some nut job could do the same thing, except they close everything down like the guy is going to start shooting up everything all at once. Rant over.

At least Home Depot is open so I can get some supplies.

I am not trying to discount what happened, but Maine is a big state and to have every branch of a bank (actually most banks) closed, but then have branches right over the border in New Hampshire open, that is just silly. I think every school is closed too, I just think it is an overreaction and in the end it will make some other sicko think that if they do something they can get the same type of reaction.

Chuck was up and about, he got some smoothies and is now hanging out crunching on pieces of his laval star chew blocks.

I am going to try and finish up the propane tank punch list today, then they should be able to deliver to us, I think I am going to hang around the Hill today, try and get a few more things done. Lots of little things that will eventually add up to big things, just ***** doing them and not feeling like you are making any headway.

No, the tank is my tank that I moved (illll legally), they are going to be filling it. They wanted me to add a plug to the liquid valve on the bottom, it had a braided flex line and it was a PITA to get off. I think we are set now.

Nope, not one branch of either of my banks is open at all, looks like statewide. Would have to go to New Hampshire. Maybe they will be open tomorrow, maybe not.

Just got the rims, $325 each, they are Accuride full polished. I will post some pictures after I get them mounted. Still dealing with a bunch of stupid things, also probably eat some dinner, I am hungry and I would like to take some Advil, so I need something in my stomach anyways.

Forgot to post a final pic of the rods on the roof, didn’t want people to think I just left them hanging out on the edge of the roof. ;)

IMG_6340.jpeg

Apparently one of the outriggers settles, a lot.

Luckily I am not dumb enough to leave anything where it would get crushed or do damage if this happened, just didn’t expect it to, in fact it should have safeguards against this otherwise it could happen when the crane boom is out.

The 16 ply tires and the new rims are definitely not as easy to get on as 14 ply on old rims. The 14 ply I can pop the inner bead completely in with my knees, I had to use the bars to do that with the 16 ply. I am almost done, just inflated the last tire, going to get them bolted up in a few, then I can set them down and torque the lugs to a measly, 475 ft pounds. ;)

The drivers side is dropped almost to the ground, the outrigger for the crane was used as a jack/jack stand, it should have check valves that don’t let it settle and they aren’t working.

I got everything done and the truck back to Dad so he can use it tomorrow, then I have to get it in the afternoon so it is ready for the big forklift adventure.

Today is the last of the 70s, going to pull out the docks, I don’t think I will need the wetsuit, but I am going to bring it anyways. It is supposed to be upper 70s and I am pretty sure it wasn’t that warm when I put them in. Water temps will still be cold, but they were similar in the spring.

I plan on prepping things for tomorrow and at this point, the big forklift is the only thing on the agenda, hopefully it doesn’t take all day, but we will find out.
