and then I add below my signature line "I don't do no-shows - my momma taught me better manners."

Amazing how well it works sometimes when the first three callers flake out.

You gotta be JohnnyOnTheSpot on the "free" stuff. There are people who sit at the computer all day long hitting "refresh" on the free ads, looking for stuff to peddle on ebay or Facebook Marketplace. (Was told exactly that by some of the people who were picking up freebies here last year.)

All I ever see here locally for free on CL is rubish.

Freecycle used to be pretty good but its nearly died out. I think my group is the sole survivor of the Yahoo groups format in the area having moved to Groups.io, but even before that the Guy that thinks he "owns" Freecycle tried to get all the yahoo groups to pack it in while he created local groups on his own website, and essentially killed Freecycle.

It still exists, but with a few hundred members Vs. in my group alone we had near 6000 in one town. (we still have about 3500, but the OFFER posts are way down.)

Quite common in some areas. For reasons I do not understand, this area is a gold mine for "free stuff" on Craigslist.

I refurnished my house with free Craigslist furniture after a girlfriend moved out and took most of the furniture with her.
Not junk either - nice stuff. They told me "We don't have room for it," when I picked up the leather loveseat in perfect condition.

All depends upon where you are, I guess.

None of that looks new or even recent (maybe the TVs). It's entirely possible that he got all of that for free, works a stint in one city for a few months or years, then dumps it and moves on for the next job, and repeats the cycle.

God forbid I'm ever single again, I'd do the same thing. I'd definitely buy a new mattress and couch, though. Anything hard (wood furniture) can be cleaned and sanitized easily enough.

I've worked with contractors who won't even pack a suitcase. They work in a city for 6+ months, buy new clothes when they arrive, donate to goodwill when the contract is up, and move to the next city / job. I'm WAY too cheap to do that, LOL...
