I got out fumbled again, the 60" forks I was going to modify for the military forklift are 5" wide, not 4", so the eyes won't work. I did do a bit of measuring and 48" forks will work so I can see the tips from the seat, I think I have a set of them that are 4" wide, but not at the Hill. If I don't have a set, they shouldn't be too tough to find, they are a pretty common size.

I think I can just make a probably not so fun project out of the forks, the eye is an odd size, they have 3" OD with 1 13/16" ID. All the 3" DOM tube I can find has 2" ID, I can buy solid 3" and then bore it out to the proper size, but, I have to actually do it...

Yesterday I was done early, home early, but went to bed late, I have an appointment this morning, then I am driving to Massachusetts to pick up a cabinet for the Salvage Garage, then go and sign paperwork for Dad's new company truck. They won't let me take it home, I have to wait for them to deliver it to the local Town Hall so I can register it and pay sales tax, just a weird situation, but I guess some new rules would mean if I pick it up I pay sales tax in Mass, then in Maine when I register it, go figure.

At least it is a rainy day and I don't feel like I am burning a good day with all this driving. I finished a deal yesterday for some military flood light kits, those are shipping on Wednesday and since it is LTL, they will probably be here by Friday from Virginia. I will have enough 24 volt lights to light up the night and then some, I have enough equipment that is 24 volts, so it just made sense to buy too many lights, rather than just enough, right???

Nah! That's just standard man-maths. Proper Strouty maths would mean buying enough lights to fit out a stadium:ROFLMAO:

I am pretty close to that, I bought four kits and each kit has 12 standard work lights, 2 spots, and 2 flood lights. It was the cheapest price for the lights I could find. If I lived near the military bases, I am sure some would pop up much cheaper, but I don’t. The kits also come with wiring and switches, I should be able to use a lot of it. My current 24 volt fleet consists of the Mitsu, the BFF, the two military forklifts, the army dump, and the track crane. And they all need lights, lots of lights. I suspect some of the ones on the forklifts work, but they aren’t LED.

I picked up my cabinet and now I am waiting at the dealership for the salesman, to be fair I am early, just couldn’t judge traffic with the weather the way it is. There have been some super duper downpours that have about brought visibility to a stop, definitely brought traffic to a crawl. I am going to have dinner early at the Cheesecake Factory and then probably have to either hang out for a while or deal with traffic.

It is a regular cab 3500 GMC stripper (technically they all have more options than needed) with a Duramax.

The salesman was all confused when I didn’t care to look at it before buying it. I told him it wasn’t my truck and as long as it is white and has the diesel, my Father will be happy.

If I remember I will take a picture.

Very windy and lots of rain, but intermittent on both. I am a couple hours south, so not really sure what it is like at home.
Have Accuweather running on my office wall- they're either talking about the drought in California or how bad things are gonna be up your way. Thought I'd check in.

My brother dropped off both dumpsters of guy wire today, just about 25k pounds total and there is more of it for sure. We also dumped 10k pounds of steel the other day, only 3 or 4 hundred thousand pounds to go.
Can you get bids for the scrap companies coming to you and taking away 200 tons of scrap?

They are actually lights, but I agree.

As for the scrap, it isn’t clean and easy, so there is a lot of work involved. We had a guy come out to look at it, but I wanted to handle it for some on the job training. I plan on trying to do industrial clean outs like this and thought it would be a good trial run, close to home, and no real time crunch. I can see that I am going to need a grapple for the Mitsu, and a hook lift truck with some dumpsters. I will probably go a step up from my Brother’s unit so I can haul more weight, I need to do some research, I would like to be able to haul his cans as well as larger ones, so I need to figure out what size unit makes sense. I can say for sure, I won’t be able to buy one for a while, need to sell some forklifts first.

If you do go into that line of work, you'll need much larger buildings. Imagine the free loot!

That was kind of the plan, getting free or nearly free equipment to fix and resell. I know I will need to buy a newer excavator, but the Mitsu does what I need and it is paid for.

I slept in this morning and it wasn’t worth it, had a bunch of missed texts and emails that I needed to deal with, on top of that staying in bed too long makes my back all messed up. Oh well, I needed the sleep, but I think being tired and not having my back hurt is better than this.

A hot shower helped, I kind of forgot that I went to the Chiropractor first thing yesterday, so I am sure that is contributing to things as well as sitting in a truck most of yesterday. Anyways I am getting a really late start today, I also have dinner plans, so it will be cut a bit short. Although I could have my truck loaded and go to the Salvage Garage afterwards, dinner is halfway to there anyways. We will see how things shake out, tomorrow is going to get messed up because of the new truck delivery too. I know Thursday is supposed to be the colder day, so I had planned to do some inside work/office work. I don't really have a plan at all yet, just a smattering of priorities that need to get done on different days.

One tree down at the camps, nothing big at the Hill, one small tree fell over, other than that, just branches, lots of little branches. I haven’t been to the Salvage Garage yet, don’t expect anything major there, but who knows.

The inside of the shop has a bit more water than normal, the overhead door basically funnels water inside, it is almost amusing. I need to figure out what needs to be done to fix it. The other door wasn’t locked and had lifted up about 12”, luckily it wasn’t cold last night, but I definitely need to lock it down for the next wind storm. We must have lost power at some point, but it is on now and that is about all I care about.

I am on the struggle bus right now, I hope tomorrow is better. It is all neck and shoulders now, the back isn’t involved anymore. Loading up the dump trailer with trash, hope to take it over tomorrow morning before the new truck gets delivered. The good thing is the weather looks decent all the way through Christmas, the bad thing is that the weather looks good all the way through Christmas. ;)

I haven’t had a chance to really think about it, I was toying with klinger and radar.

I wish they both had winches, I do have some electric winches that are 24 volt, need to dig those out as it would be a nice addition to have. They also have some hydraulic ports on the front, but I haven’t figured out what they are for yet. The technical manual needs to be perused a bit more.

Today wasn’t a bust, not a success either, I have to meet for dinner soon, afterwards I am going to the Salvage Garage to unload the cabinet I bought yesterday. I did lube up all the slides, the drawers work very well now. It needs some cleanup and paint, but will only get a cleanup before going into service, I know myself too well, don’t want to do a full restoration. I guess the cabinet came from IBM, owner used to work there, it was used to store some tape drives or some other media. I had a smaller one way back when and got rid of it, just didn’t fit where I wanted it. This one is much taller and fits perfectly where I want it to go. I will need to buy some more bins for the shelves, plan is to make it for all my RC car pieces and parts, at least what stuff will fit.

I have no clue what that reference is to.

My new truck got about 13 MPG, a bit less than expected, but I know I did a lot of idling time, also spilled a bit of diesel, the big truck pumps don’t seem to have an automatic shut off. What a mess, glad I wasn’t standing in front of it.

The Salvage Garage had no power still, nothing looked like there was any storm damage, I guess that part is good. Hope power will be back on tomorrow as Thursday will be much colder. I unloaded the new cabinet, sorry for the crappy pics, but no power means no lights.

Salvage Garage has power again, dealing with the camps and a couple trees, plus power outages. The new truck delivery has been delayed three times this morning, was supposed to be 10:30, then 11:30, now looks like 12:30 or so, kind of messing my day up, wish I had planned it on Thursday, supposed to be colder out so I would be inside anyways. As it is, I am just wasting time trying not to get too dirty before going to the Town Hall to register the truck.

I want to get a full load off to the dump today, tomorrow is already getting overrun with things. Would be nice to get some more scrap steel hauled away as well, but that would definitely be tomorrow or Friday. I have a lot of stuff that I need to get at the SG, kind of have to figure that out. I should try and load up the forklift that I was supposed to scrap a few months ago, only need to remove a dozen things or more.
