There were two sales listed that looked worthwhile so off we went this morning. The first sale was in Hayward and we came up with quite a few items. All of the Craftsman tools we brought home were early Moore Drop Forge (=v=).IMG_2792.jpeg
There were several Thorsen tools. IMG_2804.jpeg
A few Powr-Kraft itemsIMG_2806.jpeg
Two Walden 1/4” drive toolsIMG_2809.jpegThese drill bits are unused.IMG_2794.jpegIMG_2793.jpeg
Snap-on pieces.IMG_2805.jpeg
The second sale was much less satisfying. We went through tons of Harbor Freight stuff to find the few items we brought home. IMG_2788.jpeg
It’ll be interesting to see how many Xcelite spares I have to add to the almost empty roll. IMG_2790.jpeg

The solid red handles were considered a budget line, pre 2000 I think. Not like the blue clear Phillips and red clear flat head screwdrivers, but a step down.
Concur. I remember lacking a stubby P2 for a project ca1990 and purchasing the orange handle vs the clear/blue handle, specifically because it was a few cents (maybe a dollar) less.
I don’t know if it was actually inferior quality, but I do think molding an opaque, solid color would require at least one step less than the clear w red- blue- black- stripes, have less visible defects, and therefore be cheaper to manufacture.

** the high visibility stuff is collectible now, check eBay 👍**
The orange and green are hard to find! They only had the hi viz stuff for a limited time in the 90s
** correctemundo! It’s more collectible and more uncommon than most folks realize for sure. I buy it when I find it and usually it goes into a friend’s collection **

I have a need for a DS1615 Ignition wrench. Pm me if you are interested in getting rid of it

OK, so I’ve been posting some resale finds on the new tools thread, but I’ve now discovered this one.

Part 1:
Stopped by an Estate Sale around the corner and got the Stack On 3 drawer cabinet (needs a lot of work!) and everything on it for the princely sum of $10!! Some hard-handle Craftsman screwdrivers that look suspiciously like SO(?), some Stanley USA screwdrivers, a Matco wire stripper, a Crescent Crestolloy wrench, some small SO wrenches, and miscellaneous sockets that are too rusty to tell.

IMG_3423.jpeg

IMG_3424.jpeg

IMG_3425.jpeg

Part 2:
Stopped by a second sale and picked up a bunch of stuff for $1/piece. Proto, GearWrench, and Matco ratcheting wrenches, assorted Craftsman wrenches, and a Crescent and Craftsman hex driver.

Michigan And Florida too!
It's almost February and I have yet to get any interesting score.

Today there was a ReStore sale on electronics.

A 27" LG TV for 10 bucks, it has its cord and remote. My TV in the kitchen had its remote power button break and this might be cheaper than getting a new remote.

IMG20240127125652.jpg

An Episode EA-AMP-2D-150A amp. For $3.75

IMG20240127130542.jpg

IMG20240127125058.jpg

It was marked as working but I'll remove the case and blow it out and check whats under the hood.

A copy of Hoyle's for 50 cents. I somehow managed to lose my copy I had for years.

IMG20240127124236.jpg

My left behind.

IMG20240127104501.jpg

They had a couple of lower half female mannequins on closeout.

My picks today. The 1/2 T driver was just in case someone needs it here to fit their collection. No marks. But the Champion belt drive fits me to the T the wife says. Old and worn out, but since I let my beard grow, scary and dangerous looking. So I said, would it look good in the hunting room? And she says no. I said I have place just for it. What say you all?

@Squez -
"wright 10 points?"
Exactly.
They look screwy, but they work as intended.

@Mike'smeatshop -
That Champion arbor is very cool. Can't imagine why she wouldn't want it in the living room.
Okay well before today I thought I could count to 10… but apparently I can’t get past 8 lol… so what are they intended for? I was assuming for square plugs but I can’t count to 10

The estates sales were... not so great this weekend. And, it being only January, there were no garage sales to speak of. But, I did manage to find a very nice leg-o-mutton shotgun case (cheaper than eBay, more than I really wanted to spend) at the one sale I did bother with and a SquareD drum switch at the Restore for $2.50. Not gonna complain about that!

We checked out a Berkeley yard sale but there was nothing there of interest. We picked up some groceries and were heading for home when we saw the “Fun Estate Sale” sign. Usually we ignore them because they are NEVER fun but we had nothing else going on. After we arrived we ran into our friend Shiftless on his way out. He said he didn’t see much of interest and I was ready to leave but my wife said that we were there and we might as well check it out, so we did. There weren’t many tools but I found three items and proceeded to overpay for them. IMG_2832.jpeg
The Visegrips didn’t even need to go into the Evaporust, just a little cleanup. The Channellock end nippers had surface rust which wasn’t too hard to remove. The same went for the Powr-Kraft dykes. IMG_2833.jpegIMG_2835.jpegIMG_2834.jpeg
A bunch of the tools found yesterday came out of the Evaporust today. Here are the =v= tools.IMG_2824.jpeg
These Thorsen look better too.IMG_2827.jpeg
Added some pieces to the Xcelite roll. Still have plenty to go. IMG_2823.jpeg

It was great meeting Don on Friday - I was head down at work and the visit was a surprise as I normally get to GJ in the evenings, and Weekends. so his note went unread. We didn't talk long as I had a call in 5 minutes and his other half was waiting in the car, but the exchange was made. Don was way too generous but this is what I got in the trade:

His dupe NOS Plvmb from the hardware store, and a bunch of Proto LA:

Don 1 Proto LA and Plvmb.jpg

And some Long C Craftsman: I don't think I have any of these:

Don LongC.jpg

I had a decent day at estate and yard sales after 2 weeks of rainouts. One was MIA when I drove by, and one TOO paid off.

First up was a Yardsale - They had a rope across the drive while they did some last minute setup, but opened within a couple of minutes of "time":

The first Aid kit was the first thing I grabbed after being quoted $5 - Pelican style box? No brainer:

Y1a-Pelicam-FA-kit.jpg

All od the "liquids" adn about 20 years expired...
Y1b-Pelicam-FA-kit.jpg

Guitar-hooks-Old-2-wheel-pulley, and a West German DIN-SOE

Y1d-guitar-hooks-Olc-2-wheel-pully-DIN-SOE-11.jpg

And a fishing net

Y1c-net.jpg

These folding cloth tables are near useless out of the bag, but make a hard top with 1/4" ply and a 1 X 1 edge that fits around the post tops, and its great. I wanted/needed one more and this is it. But this one has leg spreaders and I'll see how they work, but I'm certain it's better than elastic cords and hooks from the feet to the top post.

Y1e-Folding-cloth-table.jpg

Not clear if the Poster was original to 1977, but I got all of this for $15 so it was cheap!

Y1f-Lynyd-Skynyrd-Poster.jpg

First estate sale was great. A good mix of tools and other stuff:

Nippers are City Tool Works , the larger Tappet DOE is unbranded but marked Chrome Vanadium, A Duracraft metric combo, A Stanley 593A plastic face hammer, a small stubby, and a Mitutoyo 1" mic that needs cleanup, but seems mechanically sound;

l-Tappet-Duracraft-Stanley-556-A-Stubby-Mititoyo-1.jpg

A Rockwell 5056A shaper table extension. I believe this extends to the Porter Cable era, so my routers should fit!

E1-rockwell-5056-A-shaper-tabel-ext.jpg

An 18 in ruler, a glass box, a Pez dispenser, small Jon-e hand warmer -Wick looks intact!; the logging truck wood toy has a Redwood Highway Souvenir decal on it, and a wood noise "bell"/clapper? - you hit it with a stick.

-Glass-Bx-Pez-Jon-e-RW-Hwy-Log-trk-Wood-noise-bell.jpg

And At checkout I spotted this: a 5X8 48 Star flag! Easy to spot with the "Square" star pattern. She quoted me $15, and I took it. Uut the door I was at $45 all told.

E1-48-star-Flag.jpg

The next YS was mostly tools, and for $5 I was happy!

A Brass Pump, Stanley Handyman Plane parts, A MAC switchable ratchet wrench, FIAT and Bash DOEs:

ass-Pump-Slanley-Handyman-parts-Mac-Fiat-Bash-DOEs.jpg

Sandvik Hacksaw, A Vaughan Sub Zero Hollow ground ax that I think they broke the handle early on as its not used much, and a Barteaux & Sons short machete that will go into the 4WD van - likely for battoning fire wood.

Y2a-sandvik-vaughan-Barteaux-Sons.jpg

And 3 brass cover plates 1/8th of an inch thick, about 3-1/2 in diameter:

y2c-Brass-plates.jpg

A TOO YS had 6 Gerber steak knives for $5.

Y3-Gerber-Steak-Knives.jpg

and the last stop was an estate sale. second day, many prices too high, -a left behind was a Parker 87a combo vise bolted to the bench but at $75 its still there. I spent $8 for a Rosterfre (Swiss army knife) multi-tool I think it's for fishing, a diamond lapping tool in a leather sheath, Channellock duckbills, a Thompson Contrnder sized carry strap with quick release swivels, two 2-1/2" semi deep and deep C clamps, Brownie and Pearlitic brands:

Quite a haul. Did the micrometer come from the Hayward estate sale on Lynn? I saw one that looked like it but I left it behind. Some of the other tools look familiar too.

Yes it did, I just finished a 95% cleanup with Triflow, and it came out pretty nice, and zeros perfectly.

The Rockwell Router/Shaper table extension fits my P/C router base perfectly too! I'm really happy about that.

The last pic with the clamps came from the Fremont sale

Here is my haul from a stealth sale. Only listed on NextDoor, no address, not visible from the street. Drove past twice, had the wife contact them thru ND to find it. Only myself and two others while i was there for 45 minutes, one guy spent $3 on a shovel. Huge garage sized shop space, plus three smaller out buildings. I spent most of my time in the shop, flashlight blazing, and I’m certain I missed good stuff. One long bench on the west wall, a rolling workbench box at 4+’ wide, plus lockers around the perimeter, a TS and joiner on the other long wall. Guy lived there for 50 ish years, passed 12 y ago, had a big sale then, daughter selling stuff again, planning to move away some time soon. He was a farmer, and fixed stuff for others, etc.

I really had to show restraint, as I am going to help a friend empty tools out of his shop tomorrow, so anything I grabbed needed to be high value, small space stuff I could use, or pass on.

First find of interest was a vice, and I was given a great price on it, so I said sold. Looked at and under the six workbench cabinets, thru the rolling box, around the perimeter cabinets, outside, and then repeated my views thru the cabinets, and on top of the workbench. Put everything in a pile, and asked for a price on all. The family friend who gave me the price on the vise whispered that he had really undervalued the vise, and implied he feared he would overcompensate on the other items I had grabbed. I replied that I understood, and we could start over on pricing. He had apparently gone online, realized the vice was worth several hundred $. Total for the whole pile was negotiated to a reasonable value, the vice was still a good price, no longer great, but I felt I did right by them, and might get to go back and help them a bit to move things along.

Top to bottom, left to right
Whitney #5 Jr punch, with all bits, stacked leather knife by xxxNGER*, P.S. Stubs Olympic needle files, tiny Herbrand ball peen hammer, Eifel Plierwrench, no extra jaws, Proto 5447, 2591 stud remover by Bonney , SK Wayne bent ratchet 45170, 9” Starrett external caliper, 3 sets of Millers Falls numbers and letters in 3/16 & 1/4", and a Proto 1368 rubber mallet

* Did not realize the stacked leather bits are split down the middle, and the metal shank of the knife is exposed at top and bottom. Wonder if this is a custom redo, it has a custom swirled plastic tale end on it.

PXL_20240127_200019008-X3.jpg

Oh, and the vice, a Record No. 5, with dual swivel locks. Opened with one finger, just needs degunking, and put it to use. Might actually replace my Reed 203 1/2.... Decisions Decisions

PXL_20240127_200038933-X3.jpg

In the left behind pile was a bunch of Bonney, Snap-on and Craftsman tools, sockets and wrenches, in the big roller bench, but I don’t need more SAE stuff, no matter how nice.

a Pez dispenser,
Just a? A? Dude, that's "Taz", the Tasmanian Devil, from the Warner Bros. Looney Tunes universe. Nice find.
the logging truck wood toy has a Redwood Highway Souvenir decal on it,
Cool find. (You may remember I went on a vintage toy trucks kick last year, finding a Holgate and a Wyandotte.) No doubt originally from a gift shop on the 101. With some research I bet you could date it, but I'm thinking 50's.

Nice find.

You **** for the proto mallet.

IMG_2833.jpegIMG_2835.jpeg
A bunch of the tools found yesterday came out of the Evaporust today. Here are the =v= tools.
These Thorsen look better too.
Added some pieces to the Xcelite roll. Still have plenty to go. Don
Those Channelock 357 nippers are my favorites. I use them almost daily. Your clean up protocol makes me want to ship my garage to you and pick up after cleaning.

Not much tool stuff today. Ti 101 is a bit hard to find. Didn't need the Morse code tapper, but was too cool not to get. The double sided clock is a repro, but well built. $10 total.

#5 Jr punch, with all bits,

Are they all not in the pic? I think all the punces are ther but not allsthe dies?

Here is my haul from a stealth sale.

But agreed; you **** regardless

I bought a solo before I realized it was a steak knife.

Thx for the offer but I think I'm good. these are excellent knives; Gerber did a good job on these back in the day, and they were pricey as I recall, I'm going to clean these up and gift them, they are that nice. with a single I'd give it a good sharpen and convert to parring knife use. A thin narrow blade like that can be handy.

that's "Taz", the Tasmanian Devil, from the Warner Bros. Looney Tunes universe. Nice find.

I knew it was Taz, but they made so many differnt ones I'm sure any book on listing them all would likely be incomplete. I've no clue if its "rara" but It wil be gifted to SWMBO who casually collects them, but only casually if ew fine one, fine, but shes not scowering the net for any to complete a "set"

With some research I bet you could date it, but I'm thinking 50's.

I agree with your age guess. I'l take a pass at it, but with the Rewdwoods being so close, I liked it.

Those Channelock 357 nippers are my favorites.

I'm assuming the 7 in 357 is length. the center one is not CL but the rights are marked 356 - The left have no marking leff but I'd assume 358, and any 357 would be 7"?

You can sharpen these, but its not easy or simple I did a pair a couple weeks ago successfully. but the ful open position is needed and you need to hit both jaws the exact same. That pair recently I did on a belt sander, most need something round or good fixturing.

CL nippers +1.jpg

I routinely buy nippers if cheap even if the jaws are chipped, as I can use them as the basis of other gripping tools. I have 2 pair that are sheet metal tongs/Hemming tools I made by grinding part of the jaws away and welding small angle in there. The thing that makes these good is the short distance from the jaw pivot to the business end. One set is 2" one set 4".

I use these routinely for taking whoopees out of metal box or cabinet edges and they do wel!! If you make a pair, grip a piece iof sheet metal in the jaws as you weld so they are flat as possible in use. Otherwise you get a gap at the tips. grind enough of the jaws so the handles are at a comfortable spacing.

I should have said, "I think all are there". There are one or two things rolling around under the frame that holds the punches and dies, hoping it is the missing items.

Late Edit, finally looked Tues night. Two more punches under the rack, not a single die. So apparently 3 extra punches, need to see if I have any dies in my spare box. (I bought a full set for my old punch, was cheaper than the several I needed.) Punch press had a weird looking set in it. Box is in the house now, so can look later.

No idea. But it's Taz! One of the coolest Loony Tunes ever. I was just elaborating on Outlaw's vague ID.

You probably don't recall, but I found a set of four (4) Pez dispensers last September, linked here. Characters from "The Office" tv show, which I sent to one of my daughters as a corny Xmas gift. She loves the show and got a sentimental kick out of them. As did the entire family. The inside inside joke is that we visited the Museum of Pez in Burlingame, CA, in 2012. Our son had just graduated from Keck School of Medicine at USC and we drove up the coast from there to San Francisco, with a major stop in Monterey, where Mrs. Lugz and I had met. She always has kooky fun places to visit on our itinerary and that place was an impressive hoot! That was the last time we took a family vacation together, all 7 of us.

Although it spans two thread seasons, it's only 3 months in between our finds, so there has to be a lucky GJ Garage Sale thread third Pez dispenser find coming up! :)

Gotcha. Yes with the punch press itself empty, the rack should have a full set - Curious, are the punch pins notched forth the retracter, or cut with a full all around groove? I don't know when they switched to the lathe cut groove, but its a weaker design. you will sometimes see a corner broken off.

That's cool! I wasn't aware of a Pez museum so close! Even closer to RTM!

Apparently not rare or valuable. made in Hungary, the head itself has a (c) 1995 to Warner Bros. - Eprey has then posted with (c) 1998 as well, so not even a single run.
