Snap-on three position pliers

I stepped on the Snap-on truck this morning for some warranty work. Sitting on the work table was a pair of long nose three position pliers. I was blown away. The quality was like nothing I have ever seen in pliers. Even the crosshatch knurling on the jaw faces was perfect. It's hard to describe the feel but They just ooze quality. In the third position the jaws open parallel at one inch. Unfortunately, I'm not paying $70 for a tool I don't need.

One of the few Snap-On tools that I'm tempted to buy. I just can't justify that price tag though.

I bought the smaller pair and couldnt really find a good use for them. Seemed like I needed either needle nose or slipjoints, not both. So I never used them. Traded them back to the dealer towards some long reach cutters.

No kidding? I didn't ask what a patent is, I asked what did snap on patent on those pliers?

They're worth every penny.

New bestest pliers, SO LN47ACF

Just got these yesterday, used the **** out of them today working on a crusty *** 2014 Journey. TONS of uses for these! They remind me of the old Cman Pro 2 position needle nose, but WAY more stout and longer. One pic is 97ACF needle nose next to the LN47ACFs.

Love mine, just used them for twisting wire and doing cotter pins yesterday.

I need (would like to have) the shorter ones in green unfortunately the broad who comes by our shop is such a ***** she doesn't want anything to do with ya if your not buying a $10K tool box especially me since I am PM and work in the office. Maybe I will have one of the mechanics buy them for me so I don't have to deal with her.

I doubt Snap-on holds the patent for 3-position slip joint pliers. They might hold a patent for some other feature. Here's a photo of some Kraeuter 3-position pliers from long ago. I'm sure that patent has expired and the design has enter the public domain by now.

I only have 3 snap-on tools, a 3/8 wobble extension I found, a 3/8 hard handled ratchet that was a gift and the smaller pair of these I purchased as having severe arthritis, I thought they'd be helpful and are they ever.

Are the tips of the SO long nose pliers uneven when they are in the second position? If so, don't you lose some utility? You won't be picking up nickels by their edge anymore. I have the Icon 3 position slip joints and honestly, the 3 position feature is nothing special. Most of the time its in the first position. Haven't had much use for the 3rd position yet and if those two positions don't work I grab something else. I only bought them because I got them at a discount and they were decent looking pliers. I will be buying the Icon long nose slip joints when they come out not because I have SO envy but because they will likely be cheap. What I've really wanted all along were the Craftsman long nose slip joints but they are only showing up on ebay for ridiculous prices. For about $20 I'll take the Icon as a cost effective alternative to the Craftsman. I've also thought about getting some IPS Igarashi slip joint long nose pliers from Japan but they are just 6.5". I also found that ProAmerica tools makes a long needle nose slip joint set too. I'd be interested in other brands too and a plain old two position slip joint is fine with me.

Yeah, the tip of the jaws are uneven in the middle position (highest Position) by about a 1/16 of an inch. I don't think you lose anything in that position. You're gaining a wider grip range for larger sized items, using the middle and lower pliers' jaws to grip larger things. :dunno:
I had the craftsman set pictured above and sold them for crazy money as part of a three piece Craftsman Pro long nose pliers set. I still have the SK pair the Craftsman were based on. The long nose slip joints from Kal/ProAmerica, and other brands are sweet too. Beefy jaws that won't twist, flex, or separate. I'm anxious to see what the Harbor Freight set looks like, and I have the snap on versions. :beer:

I sort of have a love hate relationship with Snap-On. I love my dividend checks from them but I hate their prices and business practices. That stated I do have a pair of these pliers and they are the nuts. I wouldn't consider them to be the tool breakthrough the Pliers Wrench was but they are damn nice I can't deny it.

The patents cited by the Snap-On patent, are way more interesting than the Snap-On patent.
