Coming right along Slim. That will be a nice spot To tinker. I might have missed it but are you going to put any climate control? I put a mini split in my 24x24 and it rocks, I keep it on 81 in the summer and 61 in the winter. It has been a life save to work on my Harley when I need year round. These Eastern NC summers are brutal.
The idea of a mini split and wrenching in the AC was what pushed me over the edge. I’m really looking forward to it.

You’re gonna love it. Mine barely adds $20 a mont in the dead of summer, it’s a 18 SEER 18000 btu, bit overkill but it ain’t struggling.

Good progress today! My father in law came by and we pulled down some insulation, put some ceiling nailers up, got the purlins installed and hung a couple walls worth of OSB. Since some of the studs were wonky, and they didn’t fall on 4’ centers where needed, we hung the OSB sideways. If you can tolerate a horizontal seam, it’s the way to go. So much easier than hanging them upright.

I owned an R100RT. How I came to own it is an interesting story for another time. It was a 60th Anniversary edition. I did business with San Jose BMW, and added a ceramic-coated black Luftmeister 2/1 to it. It also got new Brembo brakes, Koni shocks, new Forking by Frank downtubes, seals, and I had the heads twin-plugged, fired by DYNA coils. I did all the installation after the head-work by the machine shop. There was some other stuff, it was a long time-ago. It was a lot of fun to ride, and I surprised many a H-D with it. They didn't expect to see a BMW power-wheelie from a standing start. Great fun! I sold it to a MI friend who flew down to Miami and who rode it back to MI just-before Thanksgiving one year. He still has it.
Is Frank's Forks still in business?

Thoughts needed:

My ceiling will be bright white metal. For the walls, I'm thinking that I'll do a coat of oil-based Kilz primer and a couple top coats. Like many here, I'm attracted to industrial greens, grays, blues, etc. The color below looks reasonably close to what I'm after. I'm planning to trim the ceiling/floors with 1x4s or something similar (might do actual molding if the walls turn out nice enough).

My question is... Do y'all think I should paint the trim and walls all the same color? Maybe a stripe just below the horizontal seam? Something like a chair rail along the seam? Other ideas?

A little progress over the last week or so. I finished priming, rolled on the first coat of color, and got the ceiling hung. Getting close to moving some of my stuff back in!IMG_1301.jpeg
Slim, that looks great , well done for keeping at it. The comfort level in there has shot up, some heat and electric and you won’t wanna leave.

No big update today. My little brother is in town and I had some chores to do around the house. I did find a decent used bike lift for the shed. It’ll get cleaned up and a fresh coat of paint once I’m moved back in and the more pressing issues on the shed are complete. The hunt for tool storage continues.

Nice score. You even have the side extensions with it. I have the Handy lift without them and have always wanted to add them to mine.

Looks like the spinner knob on the wheel clamp is broken. This is what it should look like. You can still get parts for the lift at Handy-Lift including parts for the pnuematic lift cylinder and pedal, etc.1709562921417.jpeg

looking good, definitely one to follow
Thanks!

Thanks. I'm pretty pumped that I finally found one locally. Thanks for the handle pic, I was thinking that making a new handle would be a good "first-chips" project once I get my lathe running.

Progress has been slow... My pops has been in and out of the hospital and spring time chores are upon us. I did manage to get a few trim boards installed so I can move some stuff back in. Just painted 1x4's along the bottom. Up top, I'm gonna put up some metal trim and a painted 1x4, with painted quarter round in the corners. I didn't really grab any pictures because there isn't much to show.trim.jpg

I meant to get some real work done this weekend, but one of my motorbikes developed a cold start problem and intermittent ticking. I suspected a failed decompression mechanism so I set out to have a look. As soon as I popped the valvetrain cover off, I confirmed that the decomp mechanism wasn't working and I discovered a pretty trashed cam journal. Oh well, I've got a rally to go to in a few days, so I removed the mechanism entirely, zapped a couple oil passages closed and I'm gonna pretend that I didn't see that smoked cam journal for now.

It should be good for the weekend, but I suspect that I'll be fixing that cam journal proper in the coming months. Who knows though. If only I had a cool motorbike shed to work out of....

Can you fix that head? Usually a replacement is due after that.
Yeah. I can build it up with some weld and re-machine it. Blows my mind that there isn't some bearing material in there.

Looking forward to seeing a cool, small bike shop develop!
Welcome! The ‘Officina di Attrezzi Veloce’ has definitely been a motivating factor.

Yeah, Honda did that even back on the old CB750 and the Gold Wing. Not a real good design especially when using bigger cams w/heavier springs.

I never saw the use for the extensions unless you have something wide enough that needs them, last thing I want to do is bend to get to the bike.

The only time I use my side extensions is when I'm working on the riding mower, a Gold Wing Trike, or a 4 wheeler (rarely). Otherwise they do just get in the way.

My riding mower is exactly what these will get used for. I’ve got an old Honda 200s to get running eventually. Might be handy for that.
Your motorbike shop is looking good. I wish I had the space for a larger shop but my city lot in California has kept me to a bare minimum of 16 x 16. Nearly finished so I can post some pictures soon.
Mine is 16’x16’. Looking forward to seeing what you’re building.

No shop updates, but I’m pleased to report that the mighty XR survived the rally. Pretty great considering what a hack job I did fixing it. Getting this thing sorted out will be one of my first projects once I’m moved back in.IMG_1472.jpeg

Being the child that I am, I spent all day Saturday riding motorbikes. That left today for normal chores and working on the shed. I put up some corner trim and gave it a coat of paint. Then I moved some stuff inside to get it out of the yard. I’m gonna resist the urge to tidy up any further because I’m on the hunt for some old cabinets, benches, etc.

Also, I should have grabbed the tractor to move the lathe. That little thing is hefty! At a minimum, I should’ve let the lift down 🤣

I ducked out of work early today to grab some cabinets. 14 piece New Age Bold in near new condition. Not my first choice, but the price was right. They’re pretty flimsy. I suspect that once they’re bolted to the walls and have some weight in them, that won’t be an issue for my needs. Time will tell. Worst case, I’ll post them up for sale and make a little cash for something more skookum.

Baby steps…I got my last bit of trim painted and I installed some of the cabinets. The two on the right will be relocated to the wall behind me once the trim is done. The cabinets are just…OK, but they’re sturdy enough now that they’re bolted to the wall. The overhead cabinets are really nice for what they are.

It’s starting to look like a shop!

Next step is getting power out there. I’m too cheap to pay someone and I loathe the permitting and inspection process. Oh well. Gotta move forward.

I had every intention of building a sturdy workbench this morning. As luck would have it, one popped up for sale cheaper than I could build one. I used some of my newfound time to start organizing the new box. That socket drawer is looking pretty sad. Gonna have to start hunting for some tools, methinks.
