Doesn't matter if it square to the road or not. Orient it so that it looks right in the spot that you place it. The lay of the land, placement of trees, or whatever is more important than where the road is. If it looks right then it is right. If you really insist on square to the road then you can use a compass.

Depending on where you are I would probably be more worried about snow, wind direction, and thermal gain from the sun. Also overhangs and window locations. Calculate all these things correctly and you can block summer sun but get nice winter sun in any windows or on sides of building, and get a good cross breeze inside. Our wind goes from west to east 95% of the time and having windows on both those ends has been great for airing out my shop and cooling it down in the evening. If I had put the garage door side towards the wind I would have craploads of snow and rain inside when I opened it during inclement weather, plus a lot more shoveling to keep the doors clear.

Unless you have some local building "set backs" requirement to meet I don't really understand your worry.
If it is a 200' minimum set back from the road (or the roadway legal ROW) you will need a professional surveyors service.

At 200' back you're gonna have a hell of a time making this accurate. Especially if you don't have a really good, straight line to work off of (like a clearly defined curb or sidewalk edge). If you have any elevation going on then it gets even harder. The only real way to do this is to get a land surveyor (or someone unlicensed but with similar equipment) to stake things out for you.

If it doesn't need to be exact, just eyeball it with a compass or whatever simple measuring tools are at your disposal. At 200' you could be pretty darn far off parallel and it'd be VERY hard too tell without survey equipment.

I believe it was 3-6-9 or multipal of them numbers like 6-12-18. 200' chalk line from the road to the proposed
shop, tie it to a pin, go back down the line 6' mark. Go right angle with another chalk line to what ever width you want
From the original pin mark the other line at 12', now measure between the 6' and 12' and where they cross at 18'
would be square. I think????

I believe you are thinking of Pythagoras.

5 years ago when we were looking to have our house built one of the top plan contenders was typical 2 story house set at a 15-20degree angle to the road. Garage set at the opposite angle to the road and the two connected w/ a breezeway. So the whole thing was like a bananna and we were going to have a half circle drive w/ two entrances from the road about 70-80ft apart. Kind of like this but breezeway enclosed and further back from the road like your 200ft to allow for for the drive.

Why do you want or think it needs to be square to the road.? Especially when you are 200' from it?

If I had that much land I would't want the interior of the garage viewable from the road. And I'd probably position the house and garage so I could see all doors into the garage from inside the house, as a matter of security.

Either way you look at. Always shaded.....the snow or ice stays along that side FOREVER....the whole wall face gets algae and mildew growth......etc. For those basic reasons alone I would twist the building a little bit.

As noted 200’ sq to the road isn’t the issue. I’d spend some time on how you want the garage to orient to the house you plan to build.
