Update from many pages back… Finally got #2 cylinder cleaned up on the Dodge, rings are gapped and the new piston and injectors are ready to go in. Working everyday really interferes with my personal life.

I don’t know that I could’ve done all that honing without the topside creeper I bought myself. It was a bit of work with just a 280.

Back together, no codes, no noises… just need a permit to take it out and seat the new rings. All
stock still except the exhaust brake. I did paint the air intake horn red, that’s gotta be good for 5 horse.

Not in the shop, but a bit of a result.
The stolen-recovery pickup I bought 2 years ago finally went in for inspection.

Today I finally got a branded title, registration and plates.

Overall I'm pretty pleased, all the things I was hoping would be better than my current truck are. The salvage vehicle process in WA was not what I expected, It will be easier next time.

If you had Chromed it, you could have claimed ten more Horses.

Have you priced chroming service lately? Cheaper to buy performance parts… or red paint.
Saw this on Youtube for a chrome like paint process. Pretty damn convincing! I assume this is available in the USA.

While it shouldn't matter who you talk to, it does seem to matter. You would think it would be black and white without so much gray. I went through the process a few years back for a missing title on a 67 Mustang I bought. Seemed more like a money grab than any kind of background checking process. I have two old Yamaha DT's I need to get done too.

Yesterday-still nothing, called in sick. Did show the boy where he could park his tools in the shop until he gets his new space in order. Original plan was to unload trailer into my garage, then he suggested he just park the trailer under the awning. He said it might up to a couple of weeks. I was thinking tarping it to keep things dry as the rains will be back by Thursday, then decided to just let him park the trailer in the shop and I moved the Miata out under the awning. He thinks he has another half load to get but he will borrow grandpa's smaller trailer for that. I did order the lift kit for the CX-30, so will be having a shop project coming up soon. Need to finish up t/s work on mowers first though. Just need to clean decks and swap blades out on the rider and the push mower, already changed rider oil & filters. Push only gets oil changed every other year as it doesn't get much use. I do have new front tires to mount on rider too. Only pics of tires, forgot phone when we were moving trailers & gear around. 3 dogs, 2 toddlers, 3 rigs - too much commotion for pics lol.

A stop for meds and food and meds halfway thru the Buffet staining efforts. By the time I get done with the rest of the black I can double back and hit the countertop and shelves with the brown again.

Broke out the new 3M mask but went with the couple-year-old vapor cannisters. They're still working fine. The old mask is ~18-20yrs old, the elastic straps are failing, no stretch, near breaking. Far as I can see the masks are identical. All profit at this point in their manufacturing.

So should finish stain today and the weather is nice until the weekend. I ought to be able to brush on the satin poly on Thursday. Then leave it be for 4-5 days.

Removed the top shelf from the modified HF welder cart to put a 1" x 1" angle brace under the front and sprayed it with some primer and safety blue paint. Also made a better bottle rack from leftover 1" square tube and sprayed it with some semi gloss black paint. Then put both pieces inside to dry overnight. I'll reassemble it tomorrow.

Finished the rest of the black stain. Stuff has a ton of carbon black or whatever in it, the coverage is instant.
Had to loosen the mask, too much pressure on the bridge of my nose. But then I inhaled some fumes at the end. Got a headache. Didn't do the 2nd coat of brown on the countertop, maybe tomorrow morning. Will be another warmish day.
Good progress today, pretty much 'on schedule'. But have a lot of other things I need to do in the next couple weeks, going to get pretty hectic. So I'm pressing to get the finishes on so they can get thru their drying times.

When stretching respirator cartridge lifespan, just be sure that the bad stuff you're trying to keep out is so horribly smelly that you won't be able to miss when the cartridges start failing. A lot of the methyl-ethyl-death stuff can sneak up on you and numb your sense of smell, and by the time you notice, it's too late and you are screwed for life. Don't save $20 or $50 at the cost of your lungs or nerves.

After toting around some Ubiquiti P2P antennae for years I finally configured them and got them working, then installed one on my shop.
It's about 200 yards from the house, and now I have wireless internet there.

Scrounged up all the accessories and then bought a micro computer off ebay for $100.
Spent a few minutes cobbling together a bench, now I have a computer in the shop!

Assembled the frame of the new gate I am building for a rental, tomorrow I will start attaching the pickets.

i am working from my Mobility Scooter, so everything seems like it is taking a very long time. The original battery on my drill seemed to die today. The light comes on when I pull the trigger, but the motor wont run. My spare battery runs the drill just fine; the charger is telling me that the old battery is now defective.

That sounds like how a fair number of my power tool batteries have died. I've tried various ways to resurrect them, but the cure has always involved opening my wallet.

I'm not retired yet, and I sometimes do that sort of dive.... What happens after I retire?
This sounds all too familiar. Those sorts of dives slow progress, but seem to increase satisfaction.

8 more days of work before retirement. I’ll probably be in shock for awhile, I’ve held a job (sometimes two) continuously since the early 70’s. Maybe I’ll be able to cross a few more things off of the task list.

Nothing in the shop really except gathering some electrical tools. Then I spent 4 hours today crawling back and forth.....balancing on the 2x rafter edges hooking up new electrical and making my 'homerun' to the breaker panel.........BECAUSE, yesterday they FINALLY installed our new carpet in the bedroom we just remodeled. Wife just finished whitewash on the desk we built, and she's steady painting and hanging trim.

I experienced no shock in the days after I retired.

The shock sunk in over the months when I came to realize how many projects I'd been putting off for decades. It took me most of a year to realize that most of those projects were things I had wanted to do when I was in my 20s or 30s. I felt much freer then, until I realized that even after letting go of those, I still had way more projects than I really want to do. I need to figure out how to enjoy a hammock in the yard. And that involves projects to keep mosquitoes away and provide shade and a pleasant breeze. It's always something.

Neighbor had been storing stuff over here at my place.

One of those things being this ol Murray. Hood down of course. IMG_3503.jpeg

He came and got the rest of the stuff and left the mower for another trip, but he mentioned he was going to get rid of it. I asked him how much, and he said I can have it.

I’ve always liked the looks of it, but not being mine, I couldn’t do anything to it.

So now comes the time to get her running.

First order of business though, out of the wind and into the garage. IMG_3517.jpeg

Now that it’s in the garage, I can mess with it just a little. Haven’t tried to see if it spins over or anything yet.

Video for anyone interested lol
