Well I hooked it up today.

Since it is only a temporary connection (will be placed in the shop when it is done later summer) I gave some PEX a try.
I had an existing run to a hose drop from my previous compressor and I needed to connect the new compressor to the drop. So instead of spending a bunch of money on a custom 1/2 hose I picked up some 1/2 pex and 2 shark bite connectors from home depot. They worked like a champ!

Boy this thing puts out air! I sand blasted for about 1 hour and it was cool to actually have the compressor kick on and then kick off while I was still blasting. I can now go to a larger orifice and even have more blasting power, however, I might not even do it because as fast as I could move the gun it ate the paint and rust off of what I was blasting. (this is how it would do it for about the first 30 seconds with the old compressor)

It was actually a pleasure to blast, instead of getting frustrated because you can tell the blaster is down on pressure and have to wait.

I blasted the swing arms on my two post lift that is going in the new shop. If I had to do this with my other setup it would take about .75 hours each. I did all four in that amount of time.

It is also fairly quiet, as far as a compressor goes.

So far so good.

I think the next thing I am going to rig up a franzinator set up like yours Brad, I just might skip the cooling tub for now and just do the pipe trap.

wow now that is a compresser

Look's good only downside is it would take up 60% of my humble garage and dimm the lights of all the houses on my block as it turns on and off :shocking: how I wish for a nice 60 gallon compresser 15+cfm @ 125 psi I would settle on a 40 gallon unit at this point in time as I am compresserless :( lol

:shocking:

Have fun getting it off the pallet! lol....

I'm jealous.

If there's one thing I think Eaton needs to do is have a cooler logo on their compressors. That small silver sticker needs to go...

Good luck!

How did you power it Tom ? Wire , breaker ? Is she dimming yer lights ? :shocking:

I ran 6awg romex, with a 60 amp breaker.

For the .25 sec it takes to get up to full speed I noticed in my blasting cabinet the lights dimmed for the .25 sec, otherwise that is it. My wife has not complained so it must be fine in the house :) .

I ran 6/2 (11") with a 80 amp breaker ( 76 amp draw at start up ) on my IR 7.5 hp compressor and when she starts the all the 4' fluorescent shop lights flash / dim in the shop but its dont bother any other tool being used as you could/would notice.

For example running the plasma cutter and wile cutting the compressor kicks on, the 40 amp plasma cutter keeps on going with no sign of a flicker.

Its nice to be running the blast cabnet full out with the largest jet and the compressor kicks on after a wile for a few minutes and then off and stays off longer then it runs , and thats on an 80 gallon tank , your 120 should be a lot longer between cycles .

How much did that king sized compressor cost you I can't even get realistic figure into my head am saving up the 1500$ for a cheap (material wise) 80 gallon right now as I have been for the past 5 months :( but that must be close to 4-5 grand? :)

I was thinking about this, Mine is a 10 hp pump that is run underspeed. Which means that I have a fairly large diameter pully on my motor. As a result it does not take as much torque to get my pump up and running at the relative slow 600 rpms.

If your pump runs are a higher speed you probably have to overcome a greater motor to pump pulley ratio thus drawing more inital power on start up.

From the manufacture they recommend a 40-50 amp breaker. I notice NO difference from startup load on the motor and run load. It is just Bam on..

Another option would be a belt guard mounted after cooler, Castair.net sells them. They are not cheap but they are supposed to take up to 8-5 of the moisture out and leave it in the tank (just need to drain your tank frequently). I am having one installed when I order my compressor from Castair.

Holy Smoke!!

Where'd ya get it and is it 3 phase or single phase? If three phase can one use a three phase converter to power it if they only have single phase in the area? Now I'm glad my house has a 600 Amp service!

Playing around with the clamp meter & found my 5 hp 2 cyl eaton takes 45 amps to start & runs at 19 amps with synthetic oil in it on a 22-25 amp plated motor. The 3 hp Baldor on the PM66 takes 38 amps start & runs at 17 amps no load, haven't measured it while cutting anything yet.
