Last night I finished the paint and installed the metal rack I built. I got tired of having metal all over the place, lately a lot of it stored on the car lift to keep it out of my way. 8' 4" tall and just over 16' wide. This is as nice as it will ever look. lol. Today I get to start loading it, fun fun. Top of the outlets are just below the tops of the #4 rungs so they should still be assessable when steel is on the rack.

Inspected the suspect bolts on the Jeep. Used my finest chinesium micrometer and the bolts were 0.004 inches different in length. Now, maybe they are both stretched too far but looking with my calibrated eyeball, they look to not have any "necking" going on in the gap. Could be hidden though. Grade 10.9 bolts. I should take one out and go to Fastenal and just buy two replacements and DIY it. Jeep has the bolts priced at $3.65 each. I can afford that.

Also rewired a motion sensing 4' LED shop light. It was wired into the motion sensor switch for some of the garage lights. Problem was the Jeep is larger than the previous car and it's hard to see the edge of the garage wall and I don't want to drag the mirror over the stucco at night. The other car shields the headlights of the Jeep from triggering the motion sensor. Hopefully, due to the location of the shop light, it'll trigger when I pull the Jeep up. That old motion sensor light is the only thing that's tough to trigger nowadays...

I have them in 1" drive, 17", 3/4 drive 16", 1/2 drive 20 and 18", 3/8 drive in 24, 20, 18, 17, and 16", and 1/4" in 14"

hahaha.... 24" and 36". Ebay/Amazon. I don't use them often, but when I do they're great. Way better that putting together 13 random extensions....

Also, if you didn't know, every connection you make on an impact wrench drops the torque transferred. If you can reduce the connections, you maintain most of the torque. A 36" extension isn't that good for torque transfer, but it's better than 6 6" extensions.

Almost replaced the alternator on the old backup '08 Cobalt. The two day free shipping (Amazon) on the replacement unit was supposed to arrive yesterday (Wed) at 4pm. Come 4pm no alternator. And the tracking was changed to 6pm, then 8pm, and again to 9:45pm. I knew then it wasn't happening. Finally one more saying 10:15pm This morning showing 4pm again. Raining all day here, so might as well shop-vac and clean the inside and windows.
Pictures are from the parts of the job the Youtube guys edit out while they're cussing and sitting down for a beer and a smoke. Or at least I was. "Just pull her out and drop the new one in",,,sure. Out of heavy duty, long zip ties to hold the radiator hose back, but the ratchet strap worked great. Also ground off the corner of a plastic bracket for other wires with the Dremel that was in the way. Bet your ***, if it don't show up today I'm starting a new thread about it

I make a custom one with a 3" extension cut in half and a piece of pipe welded in the middle for about $5.

I have noticed this happening more frequently lately with Amazon. Usually, I actually need it the same day but can tolerate waiting till the next day. They offer next day delivery if you order within the next few hours, then it does not arrive on time. Not sure if they are doing this intentionally to increase sales or it is a problem with their delivery system. But I find myself looking locally more for in stock items when I need it the same day or next day, so it is actually costing them business in my case.

Waiting on the alternator↑↑↑ I figured I'd get something that's been bugging me for a long time. Bench and Delta grinder are 15 years old. Very "solid". Grinder for occasionally homeowner use. Vibrated just enough to randomly drop something off the pegboard, or something else walk off the bench onto the ground. These silicone potholders (trivets) from the kitchen looked promising. Heated up a similar size bolt and made four pieces. 100% better. Barely hums now, and almost zero walking on the bench.

Trimmed the boards from a discarded gate so they have square ends and put the trimmings into the recycling bin. Loaded some of my tools back into my van.
Slowly getting the mess cleaned out of the garage.

Squirted some seam sealer* into two small cracks on the F350, one each side right at the rear of the drip rail. Luckily it's white, as is the F350, so pretty much an invisible fix.

*Berkland, the good stuff, not some **** from Lowes etc.

Also gave a bit more of the underside a spray with degreaser & hosed it off. Right side of oil pan & transmission pan now looking quite spiffy, as are some parts of the steering & suspendies.
In a perfect world I'd get it up in the air, get gussied up like an Alaskan crab boat deckhand & give the underside the benefit of degreaser, soap & a steam/pressure washer.... Whereas right now I slide under it, spray LA's Totally Awesome, agitate with a sawn-off Horrible Fright 2in chip brush & then hose it off from the side. Which works quite well for the right side owing to the sideways slope of the driveway, but means I'd be laying in a puddle on the left side... ******. Will experiment with the creeper tomorrow (or attempt to back it into the side driveway...)

I need this to run parallel with another device that stays on as long as yoire holding the button .

So when I press the button one item gets power for a half second and then it switches the power to a second device and keeps it as long as the button is held .

I decided I was done having my snow blower feet getting pinned to every little crack, rock and lifted-by-tree-roots-bump in the driveway. So I welded on some skis. Was thinking we were going to get one more big storm, but all we got were a few with an inch or so that melted by the next day. I'll let you know next winter how these work out ;-):

Well, yesterday, I went and got this mower for the rear end for the one I’m putting together. $45 for the rear or $100 for the whole thing. I bought the whole thing.


Well, he had another one with a 6 speed. So I paid him $100 for IT. Just because.

Did you check the tire to make sure it still looks ok? That's still not the same as it being ok, of course, but it's falling apart, that would be a good sign to replace it.

So, ironically enough I got a call yesterday from the dealer and the parts needed for the upper control arm pinch bolt replacement were in. I had them installed in an hour this morning at the dealer and I'm good to go.

Good thing I had washed it yesterday so I could bring in a clean vehicle.

Repaired an old pressurized water fire extinguisher (broken dip tube, my fault). Really a spare unit, but back in business with a dremel and some epoxy. I use this one to make my bride practice every few years.

Cleaned up a bunch of old pipe fittings and hardware in the ultrasonic cleaner and put them away where they belong. Tossed anything marginal.

Did a little troubleshooting on the air compressor (small air leak, but enough to drain the 80 gallon tank overnight) and determined that the automatic drain mechanism was the culprit. Eh, I think I’d rather eliminate it than repair it as I now have a good ball valve on the bottom.

Cleaned up some garage sale finds, then put a scotchbrite demurring wheel on the smaller bench grinder. Called it a day.
