I am looking to buy a 50 ton or more shop press. I was wondering if anyone knew of any brands/models/sources for a not junk press? I don't need a DAKE or even OTC, unless I find one used. I have been pounding marketplace and such, but nothing I like is close.

Carolina tools has a US made 50 ton press. No personal experience, but they’ve been around for a while.

Their site says call for prices, so that, coupled with being made in USA leads me to believe they’re not cheap.

Good usually isn’t cheap, though.

Redline makes a number of different presses in the 50 ton range that offer different features across the price range. Worth a look.

Use a Craigslist searcher and search within whatever milage you are willing to travel. Once you get over 20 tons used prices really drop because of their weight.

Unfortunately, I don't know what a CL searcher is. I only know how to go on the app or website and look it up. I do set my preferred distance though.

Hold out for a Dake, or buy a cheaper one and then find a Dake and get rid of it. I had a 20 ton OTC and it had a bottle jack and wasn't that sturdy. Dake is the way, you can find them reasonably if you pay enough attention to FB, CL and auctions
Yeah, I never seen a 50 ton or larger with a bottle jack. I agree, I may not need it, but I do like quality. I've been hammering the sell sites and haven't seen anything close to what I am looking for, unless they were asking 75% of list for something not worth that price.

I will add I have a Dake with a cylinder on top and a pump and handle on the side which is connected with a hose.

This set up is much more sturdy than the bottle jack type which I have used throughout the years. There is no comparison.

There's a Dake on Govdeals right now, but it's in Wisconsin.

Best not to be in a hurry and keep searching

There's also HGR but you'll either have to road trip or have it shipped if you find something.

Wow, govdeals press is right in my backyard. Too bad will be traveling out of country by time auction closes

Sorry, no help

Well sir, I must thank you very much! I searched on GovDeals and I not only found a 75 ton Dake, a few hours drive from me, I won the auction! I never knew about that website. So, if you ever get to mid south TN, I will gladly buy you a cold one. Heck, I might even throw some burgers on the grill too! LOL Thanks again to you and all the others here. I can't wait to pick it up. Bonus - it has an arbor press attached to the side!!!

I got my DAKE at auction, Bidspotter dot com. It was probably the 4th time I had bod on one. Some auctions things go high, the one I finally won on was not well attended. "Attended" meaning in-house or online. I bid online. I'm good for a 1-1/2 to 2-hour drive radius from where I live.

That's awesome.

By chance, was TVA the seller ? I've seen some pretty good stuff they list in Govdeals.

I'd suggest putting an icon on your home screen for a short cut and check them out on a regular basis.

Last time I was in Tennessee, it was to pick up a '96 Mustang Cobra, drug seizure vehicle and I won it off Govdeals.

Again, congrats on your new purchase and post up some pictures when you get it.

I was in it to win it. Thinking a new chicom piece of **** is anywhere from $1500-$2500 or more for a 50 ton, I was willing to bid much higher than I had to.

What are some things you can do with a shop press like these? I've heard of them but dont know anything about them other than seeing people making slow motion YouTube videos crushing watermelons and such.
:ROFLMAO: My kids used to make me watch that stupid stuff when they were little! I will use it for bending steel because I do a lot of fabrication, pressing bearings (I work on heavy equipment and trucks), I have needed one in the past for pressing out chucks from a jack hammer....... It won't be used very often, but when you need one, you absolutely need it. So far I've always borrowed, but I just moved and don't have connections yet.

Yes sir, it was TVA. I will pick it up hopefully tues. I really have to stay off the auctions, I have made quite a few rather large purchases recently! LOL But thank you again, and remember my offer stands. I'm sure I will have my shop completed by then. Well, in use by then. I don't think it will ever be "complete". LOL

Thanks for the offer and glad to see a fellow member win an auction for something they want or need.

Keep an eye on those TVA auctions, they seem like the sell some good stuff. I've seen several Lista/Vidmar listed.

I was also bidding on a Baldor, 2hp bench grinder and stand. It got over $600 so I backed out. It would have been nice, but my last one I bought in like 1994 for $60 from Builders Square. It sat outside for about 7 years not being used. One day I plugged it in, gave it a bump spin, and believe it or not, it still runs today. I think the brand was Allied or something. Well, I don't use one too often, so I just got a JET 1 hp 8" from ZORO, with discount code it was $224. I will use my old stand.

I had to look up the Lista/Vidmar. Haha, right now I have 4 Snappy top & bottoms, 3 are large, a 44" US General, and about 24 Knaack boxes. I don't think I will be looking for any more storage. In fact, I am going to consolidate a lot of the gang boxes and start selling them off.

Dake hands down! You'll never regret purchasing a Dake. Buy it once use it for a lifetime... Made in USA

Mine is a 50 ton model... More than enough for any home use..
When I worked at GE Aircraft Engines we had a similar big Dake, a fantastic press. We got a new manager who deemed it unsafe. Sadly our "Save The Dake" campaign was unsuccessful and it was replaced by a vastly inferior piece of equipment, heavily guarded to the point of being unusable.

:ROFLMAO: No sir, the one in Bridgeview, hellinois. I Think! Now I am second guessing myself. Before Sams & Costco, was there a place called "The Warehouse Club"? For some reason I am thinking I got it from somewhere else??? It was many moons ago. LOL

I picked it up today. Had a three hour drive, but it was well worth it! OH! This thing is a lot bigger than I thought. LOL But hey, I doubt I will ever need anything bigger. I love the pic of the "BETHLEHEM -USA-"! My uncle used to haul out of there in either south chitcago or N/W Indiana, I can't remember. Anyway, I am so very proud to have it say and be made in USA with good ole USA steel!!! This will be passed down to my boy, the one in the pic most likely. He is my right hand guy and can't wait to get outta high school to get into the workforce. And that's ok, because my older boy, my junior, is a south paw, so I call him my left hand guy. Haha. There was a bunch of stuff in the side tray. I did get the two extremely heavy blocks that go under whatever you're pressing and the round turret??? plate for the arbor press. Looking at them I am sure they came with the press. The cable lift crank end is broken where the handle would go. But that's ok, I will fix it sooner or later. And for some reason it started leaking by the time I got it home. I am calling Dake tomorrow to see if I can get a complete seal kit, and if it's not too difficult to install. By the way, did I mention, Man this thing is HUGE! I am going to make a wheel kit to move it where I want it, and just remove them when I get it into place.

Ok, here goes a try with the pics.

Dang thats a nice looking press + the bonus arbor press on the side is killer!
Congrats
Thank you. Unfortunately, I have never used an arbor press and the only thing I've seen on youtube is stamping leather with one. I might use it with a punch, for new holes in my belt, but other than that......... And that is just so I can say I used it! Hahaha

I talked to Dake and they dated it from 1962! Again, very proud of it being complete USA quality! And he said they really haven't changed in about 70 years.

I tries smashing some tubing, but it failed to crush 2" square 1/4" wall. I felt like it went into bypass. So, I will use the troubleshooting info and see if I can't get it to put out 75 ton.

@Stick-man

Did you ever resolve why you could not get your press to achieve the full rating, as presumably indicated by the gauge?

Did you ever resolve whether or not or why you felt the unit went into bypass?
