I noticed an odd squeak while running the feedworks yesterday, and a loose sprocket on the top outfeed roller.

Looks like it was welded and turned with an angle grinder. Thr other indication of some serious damage here is the keyway was cut with a endmill vs a woodruff or larger diameter cutter as found on all the infeed keyway. The infeed sprocket is held on with a round m25 nut vs this using a setscrew and the sprockets are different (same size) one is cast and one machined.

There is a bearing hanging out in space on outfeed bed roll so I guess I'm replacing all the bearings and rebuilding the thing.

Sorry to hear about the problems you found.

But look at your return on rebuilding it -- won't it be worth $5,000 when you're finished? ;-)

All things considered it's not in that bad of a condition. The new feed roller bearings will be relatively inexpensive (I'll likely go with inexpensive replacements as they are only bushings on my other machines) for the price I expected some work, but obviously hoped for good enough.

As for pricing when finished it *might* be worth 2500 complete, maybe 3k freshly rebuilt but thats a stretch. 3-5k will realistically buy a nice 510/630mm 1980-2000ish Italian machine with a stellar reputation. The 5k asking price on one I found was wishful thinking for the seller (imho). The market for 24" 15hp planers is limited.

Still though I won't have any where close to that in it, and I'm very happy with the purchase price. It's rare I buy something that doesn't need work to get running so no real surprise here.

I may* have a problem.

Someone should buy this before I do and my wife makes me move into the garage.

I've been watching this one for a few months. He started at 2k, and has been lowering every couple weeks.

It's a L. Power machine

I’ll take a punt on that.
You’ll have to store it, ‘till I can arrange transport 😉

Well the car made it 1800 miles to Florida and back without any issues.
20240602_150343.jpg

Started cleaning up the infeed and outfeed rollers. I need to find where i put my steady rest since the center on this roller is messed up.
20240610_160206.jpg

The infeed roller segments are full of junk, and had no grease. I'm happily suprised these are spring segments and not rubber dampers. Hopefully they won't degrade over time.

Good to hear engine swap held up for the travel.

Is there a story with the dogs?

Not really just one of the only pictures i took of the trip..lol. The 3 dogs would have likely preferred it if i had not fixed the car since we would have taken my wife's new wrangler which has way more space for dogs. 😅

They do like the car better than my truck though. Each dog has a spot to stick their face between the seats.

Added some "temporary" shade to my deck yesterday. We are having some people over for the 4th weekend and one comment (from one of the friends that helped screw down the decking) was that there was no way we could be out on the deck in the july summer heat..

He wasn't wrong.

Hopefully this makes it less sweltering

I have one of those up in front of my shed work area. It does wonders in our triple digit heat. My problem is I always assume in my head it is waterproof. It is not. :ROFLMAO:

Looks like a great temporary turns semi-permanent solution! I'm debating on something similar for our deck area as I really want to at least partially cover it but don't want to do a full structure. Order the sunshades online I assume?

Looks good! I've been thinking of adding one to our deck but I can't decide how/where I want to attach it to the house. Was thinking of using pipes like you did for the railing side and making them easily removable.

The pipes are actually chainlink fence posts. Cheaper than actual pipe from home depot. The plus is they fit almost perfectly inside the square tube railing posts.

It looks like that Power Company planer is still listed for $800 -- I drove right past its location last week. It was all I could do to keep myself from stopping to see it. (no room in my shop either...)

Did you see this listing? (also right down the road from me)

Even if you don't have any room for tools, some of that lumber might still be available.

Lol
😆 I messaged him this morning about price for the ritter door clamp table he has pictured in one of his many listings. He said "4k like new" which is about 66% of new retail.
Screenshot_20240617_215439_Facebook.jpg

He also has this beauty, which will be up for sale until he gets closer to 2k-2.5k
Screenshot_20240617_215529_Facebook.jpg

For $500 more you can get a real moulder.
Screenshot_20240617_220711_Chrome.jpg

Needless to say I'm not buying anything there.

Sounds like his wife/lawyer/kids made him put the stuff up for sale....so he's only following the directions he was told....nobody said the values had to be reasonable....

Then again....it's more likely he's just got no sense of the value of used equipment and has an over inflated view of what his prized possessions are worth....but giving the benefit of the doubt

His listing prices are definitely shocking!

I'll bet his prices plummet once he gets an offer on the house. (if he gets an offer...)

Yeah i would think he is not getting any half or full price offers on the equipment with those prices. Ive been amused by that planer/moulder for a while now. I didn't realize it was the same seller until after I messaged him. Selling the property (unless it's priced similarly) would certainly motivate most people.

I moved the deck string lights up to the shade lines yesterday, and finally used/assembled the outdoor dining set we bought in 2016.. I'm surprised how much more I like the space with the shades in place.

I'm not gonna' hold my breath on his equipment prices dropping anytime soon. I couldn't find the house even listed yet, in a quick real estate search. (his Facebook listing locations vary from Davidsonville to Frederick, so I'm not completely sure he lives down the road from me) I'd like to get a look at the lumber at least, so I can let you know what I find out (although it will probably be next month before I get over there).

The section with the bare wood railing is getting screened / enclosed with a gable roof and a knee wall where the railing is. I just haven't got around to building it yet.

It was all planned out a while ago
