I got my **** kicked while replacing the window regulator cables on the 2002 Volvo C70. What a bear of a job. There's fragmented information on the interwebs and Youtube so I had to kind of make things up as a I went along. I eventually had to bring in a consultant (wife) who has a better sense of spatial relations than me. Did I mention it was 98F in the garage for a lot of the day?

It is finished and I did save about $800 over buying a complete assembly from Volvo.

Nice!

Post your concise solution somewhere for the next guy since the internet is lacking.

Welcome to my life. I putter. Greenhouse here, sidewalk there. The monster projects are over. No more thousand yards earthmoving projects or reroof or siding jobs. It's kinda sad really. But, I keep chugging along.

Today will be cleaning up, finding a missing tool, and CAD work. Not exactly inspiring.
@kaymccampbell - you "chugging along" blows away the amount of work 50% of the people on this site probably accomplish.

I'm repairing some water damaged particle board tower speaker carcasses. The carcass has removable top and bottom panels that hold a "sock" that wraps around the speaker in place. The bottom screwed into the particle board - which now is significantly weakened. I'm going to use 6-32 screw "plates" epoxied and pinned to the particle board - hope that works.

Mrs No_Garage and I will be rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic so she can pull her car into her half of the garage.

Cheers

Jim

Performed the biannual poop pipe reaming. Cleaned and serviced the pressure snake. Cleaned the walks n deck. Interviewed a committee chair candidate. Cleaned, flung, put away. Repaired some small broken things. Mounted the Stihl charger on the charger cabinet. Set up all the angle grinders with appropriate guards and handles. Now they need a new home, cause in full dress they're too big for their old one.

Time for a rack Kay - maybe a sliding rack?

I vinegar de-rusted these pliers last week. Some cold gun blue and old motor oil finished them up.

Try de-rusting with a super fine wire wheel, and a very light touch like you were polishing Utica's in particular 'buff out" well. Many will come out looking blued.

Maybe not "in", but just outside the garage.

I serviced the pcv system on my old Volvo. Not particularly fun, but something that needed to be done. On these cars, it's pretty much a have to do thing(or the car will develop oil leaks, error codes, and generally a crappy running car. As a side note, I owned a 240 wagon before this, and if it didn't have rusty floorpans, I would be happier driving and wrenching on that brick.

Anyhow, this V70XC runs strong now with a functional pcv contraption and no vacuum leaks. However, fixing that seemed to cause a brake caliper leak.

Never ending car problems...

Cut and welded up the brake pressure loss warning sensor bracket so it sat flush against the frame rail and more inline with the adjustable porportioning valve for my rear discs.

now the proper 3/16th inverted flare to 1/8th NPT adapters came for the last of the valve i can finally button up my brake lines and move onto the lines for hydro assist and hydro boost. This bronco will be a lot more point and shoot of a rig than my buddies i wheel up here with.

Serviced my 9000 watt generator, added an exhaust mod for venting out the side of shop.
Set up for aux power if power outage.
These Champion generators are priced right but mechanically loud! When needed I’ll run it in the shop to spare the neighbors the noise.

I guess it fits more in the garage thread....................................

It is hot and humid out.

I got done with the modifications to the trailer. I was tired of the little garbage plastic battery boxes on my trailer for the winch. I lost the first cover one on the way to MN driving out for Mopars in the Park this year, bought another, and lost that on the way home............ I like the size of this box. The battery will fit easily as well as the tie-downs for the car. (y)

Also installed wheel chocks.

I have heard from a friend of a friend that if you don't have any wheel chocks your car may roll forward when you release the rear straps.............this may or may not have happened to someone I know therefore I added wheel chocks :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Half in half out?

Finishing a project I started before last winter. Getting this frame coated.

I did stop last winter while awaiting title work. Submitted my paperwork and may be getting title soon. So now I feel better about spending money/time on it.

Anyway, got it wire wheeled a while back. So now I hit it with degreaser and the pressure washer IMG_4512.jpeg

After a good scrub, started to apply primer. I brushed it on as much as I couldIMG_4513.jpeg

Then sprayed the rest where I couldn’t. I also went over where I brushed with the spray gun to even out the texture. IMG_4514.jpeg

I got overspray on some stuff under there, but I’m not concerned. Most of the oversprayed stuff is coming out (brake lines, wiring, hoses, etc)

I did a few coats of primer on this part. This is where the fuel tank sits and I assume salt will hit this area fairly hard. And yes, the hangers need pulled and fixed/replaced. That is why I am using implement paint. So that I can touch up as necessary. There will be a homemade/light duty flatbed going on here instead of a regular bed. So access will be easy. This will be my winter beater with a heater this winter (assuming the title work comes through) IMG_4515.jpeg

Once the title arrives, I’ll be buying stuff to do brakes (front/rear), cooling system (water pump, thermostat, hoses), fan belt, and tires. That will get it rolling down the road reliably.

When done, I should have “roughly” $1000 into this truck. Not bad at all.

May I ask what’s going on with the parallel circuit breakers?

Wasn’t gonna paint today, but watching the weather, it’s said it was supposed to rain Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Then just Wednesday.

So I went ahead and painted. The primer was surprisingly dry already (direct sun). It had a couple hours to dry, so hopefully that’s sufficient.

I am second guessing gloss LMAO. IMG_4517.jpeg

This is going to be my winter beater this winter (yeah I know). So I’m hoping the gloss helps when I rinse the salt off it. I’m not going for show quality, rather, staving off rust for “” that much longer.

The pieces that look half painted are getting replaced (shocks, parking brake cables, etc etc). So I was not concerned with coverage. They were just in the way. I did not want to fight taking them off right now. I know they are rusted to hell and will FIGHT me the whole way coming off.

Primed and murdered-out.

Masked and adding pattern. Kid likes stripes, what can I say. Things got interesting with my rigging to say the least. Kid (10) doesn't want to wait for it to dry, but after I told him there's this and THEN a clear coat, he settled down on pulling the tape today (its 10 minutes to touch/2 hours to "Cure" but I learned last time that 24 hours is better any time there is masking etc. to pull off.

I noticed a small dent sticking out of my car door on my C70. Then I noticed that the window was having trouble. On my next visit to my mechanic. (Only works on Volvo's) He found my motor hand broken loose and almost turned 180 degrees. He completely rebuilt the mounts and it's working. He said that a new window mechanism would cost well over $1200. I paid him around $600.

Wife's car threw a check engine light this morning, so this afternoon I read the code.

P0456 "small evap leak". Great.

Also my truck has been making weird clicking noises and taking multiple tries to start. It's still under warranty and needs two recalls, so I'll schedule an appointment for it.

Front wheel bearings on a 1975 Eldorado. Sketchy setup on the press.. despite buying a Harbor Freight FWD bearing kit none of the sleeves or parts fit the behemoth. Ended up using some scrap stainless steel hand railing pipe to remove with a misused application of a bearing separator. Installation was managed with 2" abs drain pipe as a sleeve.
