So looks like a pipe clamp would also work? Or is the throw of the screw too short?:

sash clamp.JPG
Yes. I use zip ties to hold the compression tube in place, with rags to make sure any bluing isn't damaged. And sockets or heavy dowls to aid in spacing, but you don't have too much preload to deal with, only you need to make sure that you account for it, because it can be very damaging.

Of course, there are plenty of plans online to make a much more permanent one.

Ok East of Toledo. There is also this one as well. I meant to include both ads but I managed to trick myself with technology: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1203974864293959/ If you're driving for one, might as well check out the other.

Last Friday hit a sale, good prices on what I was able to grab and scored on the copper. I spied the copper flashing hidden in the corner of the garage partially hidden by dust and grime. The guy didnt even know it was there and said 75 each. No problem on that price. The one is a 20" roll and weighs 109lbs & the other 16" 86lbs. Pretty thick gauge, maybe 10 gauge. I keep telling myself I cant scrap it and wont.
Gotta be worth more than scrap.1000016852.jpg1000016853.jpg1000016854.jpg1000016855.jpg1000016865.jpg

Oxwall’s finest! :cool::ROFLMAO:

Marty you’ve reminded me that I once scrapped a roll of the stuff. I had completely, and I mean completely, forgotten about that. It was a fraction of one of those.

Picked this up yesterday from a local auction.
The awl is unmarked except for the patent date.
Datamp shows it as an improved awl handle. The cap unscrews rto loosen the chuck end to remove or replace the awl point.
I don't find any info who made it, but the patent info shows the inventor Nathan S. Clement being from New Britain CT
I see some on Ebay id'd as from Stanley, but???

I’ve mostly been focussed on workshop storage and larger pieces recently as I attempt to fill up fit out the new barn… nothing quite so nice as my recent Lista score, but here’s a few recent FBM finds…

IMG_3463.jpeg

not sure on the make, and it needs a bit of attention to the runners but at £90 it was far better than the usual £4-500 I see them advertised for...

IMG_3462.jpeg

small benches from a chap closing down his machine shop. £30 each, and some more benches to come later in the month

IMG_3460.jpeg

finally. Koken badged tool cart in really good condition. never seen Koken storage before, although I do have the odd very good quality tool from them.

I found this Kwick Kleen file with box and instructions and literature. I haven't found any mention of one here on GJ. Basically, it uses hacksaw blades grouped side by side as the filing surface. Mine is missing the special wrench that is part of the "kwick kleen" feature that is touted to save the user hours a day.

Thanks, I'm really excited. I've been on the hunt for nice kitchen gear on the cheap for about ten years and this is one of the last pieces.
They had a safety recall on the blade, yours may be included -
Slim pickings for me.

IMG20240706113844.jpg

Book Rings and Labeler tape for a buck each.

IMG20240706113848.jpg

Pruners and a quick clamp for $3.50

IMG20240706113830.jpg

A Cuisinart for 4 bucks with all its parts(I think).

Does anyone know the make on the pruners on the left? I thought they were Tru-pers but looking at my pair I'm guessing they are something else.
This may apply-

@ecotec ***** for the great looking index. Cool indexes are my white whale.
They are a favorite thing to look for. I am trying to find all of the Detroit area stands. I have two National Twist Drill and two Whitman and Barnes.

I need to find a couple Detroit Twist Drill stands. Every one I find is broken.

Couple sockets from last week, found a five dollar bag at a random sale, mostly 1/4”

Left side is all Craftsman, including 3 BE wobble sockets surprisingly.

Lots of set fodder on the right. Plomb and random at top, then P&C, None Better, JC Penney, and a few randoms. Excited about the P&C! I never find the 1/4 stuff:rocker:

I've been AWOL from this thread (in the middle of a few crazy-busy weeks)...

All of these guys get a You ****!

Took a 25 minute ride for a tool only sale at a repair shop. Most of the time mechanics know what they paid and want top dollar for everything but I ended up going and doing very well. The guy said it was all extra **** laying around and just wanted it gone. Definitely could have left with a lot more at great prices but didn't need anything else. Paid $10 for the vise grips and $10 for the Starret hacksaw blades, Wright combo, Blue Point grabber tool, and NOS Proto 30mm and NOS misc tools. All the other stuff was free including the Blue Point metal case with brake home set!😎
Does anyone know what the tool circled in blue is for? Also I can't seem to find any info on the Blackhawk Tools 7/16"x1/2" #2016 wrench.
1000006632.jpg1000006633.jpg
1000006642.jpg

I next hit another sale near home advertised as tool heavy. I showed up 5 minutes after opening and the animals were running amuck. Grabbed the NAPA New Britain puller, brass hammer set, Blue Point speak plug gapper (I think I have 4 of these things now-they're at every sale around here it seems), Herbrand no. 182 brake spring pliers, CMAN metric long patterns and offset metric wrenches, and a complete Unique ratchet set. If anyone has any info on this let me know. Has a patent date of 1908 it seems. I had to control myself at this one also as he had great stuff and even better prices. All in for $20.

1000006628.jpg
1000006629.jpg1000006630.jpg1000006631.jpg
Then I saw a sign for a sale on my way.home and grabbed a back of catchers gear for my son. The young man told me $5 and I handed him a $20 and said enjoy it's worth more than $5.
1000006624.jpg

My younger son (13) catches. He prefers pitching, and also plays shortstop and center. Anywhere they put him, really. Like someone said, it's important to be adaptable.

I picked up the vice I won in an online only estate auction for $7.50. Bigger than I thought, no identifying info on it though.
IMG_6493.jpeg
The box behind it was one lot with no bids and only 1 bad photo. I saw two tobacco tins and figured I could make the $2.50 opening bid back on those by themselves. There is an old brass Diamond Match box, an old Marriam’s Segar cutter with “Patent Pending 1902” on it and some other cool trinkets.
IMG_6492.jpeg

And then I bought this in the online Live Auction portion for $12.50. It was cheap and too weird not to, but my wife will hate it.

IMG_6495.jpeg

All in at $26….including fees and the fish.

The vise and cutter are cool!

You WAY overpaid for the fish, LOL...

Great bunch of stuff, especially the small $5 box!

Estate sale ($20): Rid-Jid ironing board w/wings; 4 - Durity veterinary syringes; Royal 501 hand vacuum; 2 - Sheets of 1/2" HDPE plastic (I think); Stanley thermos; ****.

Went to a last day all you can fill into a box for $20 and got a bunch of things I really didn't "need" + everything is musty + the weather was tres unpleasant. Though no complaints.

Dew Point!
Screen Shot 2024-07-14 at 3.13.56 PM.png

Kestrel meters are worth big bucks! Most days, I don't actually want to CONFIRM the dewpoint, LOL!!!

I've done a LOT of ironing over the years, especially in high school (uniforms for school, Boy Scouts, and a job at a fancy Italian restaurant). Never ironed while surrounded by a group of beautiful women, of course. Although, I actually had to TEACH a couple of girlfriends how to iron, especially men's dress shirts.

Thankfully, today's fabrics have come a LONG way, and as long as you get then out of the washer and dryer quickly, and hung up immediately, they look good enough for most occasions.

Second National Twist Drill stand $5 at a local estate sale.

It is nicer than my other one.705A84D6-9209-4E8F-94DC-3EA11824B283.jpegDEF6F9F3-B8E7-4B09-AD03-1CF128745852.jpeg

My meager haul from two sales today:

53867914879_4e45bcc3d5_b.jpg

The first was an "Estate Sale" of, to my tastes, mostly ****, a fair drive and hard to find. The second was a TOO by the roadside, where I got the knife and ratchet. I over-paid for the knife, even after some haggling (came down ten bucks and threw the wrench in), but finding a nice skinner at a yard sale with a blade that isn't trashed is a rare thing out here.

Knife:

53867561001_ae4d11b374_b.jpg

I've never heard of Othello knives, but Solingen.... Hard to see on the blade, but it's marked for Coast Cutlery, Portland, OR. Coast was a major importer of knives and fine cutlery for the West Coast of the US. I bought my first razor (straight) there in the mid-'70s, so some personal connection. They were also the sole West-coast importer of Victorinox SAKs back then--IIRC.

53867811493_ccfb645d31_b.jpg

I don't know who or what Anton Wingen Jr. was. May be a maker's mark, or may have been custom embossed for the original owner by Coast Cutlery, as they did things like that.

Ratchet:

53867811498_fde701122e_b.jpg

Yeah! P&C! I couldn't make out any marks through the rust until I got it back to the shop and put some steel wool to it. I just knew that the open ratchet design was older and it seemed to work just fine, rust and all.

The oiler is a Dear John:

53866658822_0597b3af3d_b.jpg

I recall they used to make some farm equipment.

I just looked up Othello Solingen. Anton Wingen Jr. came up on the first hit. I didn't overpay by a long shot!

Estate sale ($58): 19 Precision Bilt 1/2" drive sockets, 5" extension, 9" T-handle breaker bar; Thorsen no. 14 1/2" drive flex-head breaker bar; New Britain NDF 20 combination wrench; 17 - Assorted sockets (SK, -v-, Wizard, Williams); Attwood 1794-4 inline fan (nib); Craftsman 508-51801 3-1/2" vise; 2-pyrex casserole dishes (2-1/2, 1-1/2 qt); Propane gauge; Craftsman compressed air kit; Vol 1 and 3 Lord of the Rings; Razor scraper.

First time I've come across Precision-Bilt. Interesting New Britain wrench design. Moving into Pyrex as they seem similar to Revere Ware in terms of easy to move. They're not cheap at $10/ea. but sell for $30-50 on the bay. Same thing on the Craftman vise $20 in and about $60-80 out.

Two sales listed in S Lake Tahoe today and only the first one mentioned tools. We found a so-so drill index and an almost complete Craftsman 3/8” drive vv deep socket set in a case along with some miscellaneous pieces.IMG_5524.jpegIMG_5528.jpegIMG_5527.jpeg
Craftsman drift cleaned up. IMG_5529.jpeg
The second sale advertised SF Giants collectables and I found five bobble heads of my favorite old Giants including the Giants excellent announcer Mike Krukow, on the lower left.IMG_4073.jpegThey weren’t allowing anyone in the garage but I peered in and what I could see looked promising. I explained that I collected vintage tools and much to my surprise I was allowed in. Here is what I came away with.IMG_5530.jpeg

Slipped out to a fellow picker's sale. He always has some interesting stuff, but I stuck to mostly tools - $10 all:

1 SO, 1 tiny "thumbwheel" stubby, and 3 Proto Drivers 2 Plvmb wrenches, and an old Sucrets box.

Proto-Plvmb-SO-myst-tin.jpg

Left behind was another old swing gate toaster. This one had sides for the outside and you would have to handle the toast to flip it.
