I have been more than pleased with all of the "Vessel" product I have purchased.
My "torx" stuff is all mixed brands, none of which I paid for - it just "appeared" in my tool box.

These are as good as it gets and is near your budget. Swissgrip is certainly among the best soft grip screwdrivers out there. Sadly seems they do not have the two large sizes in that set. Are you sure you want a screwdriver for those sizes, because you can't really torque such stuff down with one easily?

You can get them individually elsewhere - the PB 8400.27-125 and the PB 8400.30-130. Both actually offer a 10mm hex bolster so you can tighten down with a wrench. There's also a T40 screwdriver.

Sometimes you can find the PB swiss stuff even cheaper. That set would cost me 47€ here in Europe...

I think this one is also worth considering. Vessel is always quality. They go up to T40 but with no T8.

If he adds a PB Swiss T30 to the set he's well outside his budget. Vessel is excellent but I don't know if I'd get tamper proof unless they're really needed.

T handles are out for this but that suggestion reminds me to order new T handle hex drivers too.
The Wiha set covers my tip size needs best. The Vessel composition handles intrigue me, any comments about those?
PB Swiss exceeds the budget
Tekton looks good too, for some reason I thought Tekton was Taiwan made so excluded them.

I love Vessel's woody composite handles. They are firm and have a perfect texture and feel to them. (I tend to prefer hard vs soft handles). The question is if tamper proof tips are as strong as solid. My gut feel says no but in real life they might be just fine. You'll get a T40 with that set but will need to add a T8 from elsewhere.

Not too long ago, I searched for hard handle torx drivers and ended up buying the Genius TX-513T set. 13pc. T6-T50 no skips. It was $30 then, shows $55 now and OOS. I’ve been satisfied with the Genius bits I’ve been using so figured I’d try their drivers. Made in Taiwan though, so your loss. :lol:

Those look great. Very tekton(ish) handles, which I love.

I wish Tekton would release a precision driver set with the handles they use on their picks/mini pry bars.

The Genius set above looks okay for the $ but for anything over T30 I'm using a ratchet with a bit, below T8 I can't see. 7 tools cover my needs.

Just ordered the Tekton 6 pc set with a single Wera T8

Bondhus makes excellent hex and torx drivers. That's where I'd spend my money.

I have Bondus, Elkind, Tekton & Channellock (the MIUSA acetate ones) torx drivers - albeit my Bondhus and Elkind ones are T-handles. Tekton is also recommendable - and honestly sounds more like what you're after, I just think Bondhus is best.

Haven't been disappointed by any Bondhus tool yet. Seems like an honest USA manufacturer that does not ridiculously overcharge their offerings like almost all others (except for channellock).

Duralast at AutoZone Torx screwdriver, must be bought individually. They have T8 - T30.

With a $50 budget, No China/Taiwan, and no acetate stipulations I think Bondhus is your only option. I like mine a lot and they have held up well for me but the shanks are pretty long. It's never a problem for me but they can be a little awkward at times. I really wish Bondhus offered these in a shorter length as well.

Otherwise I'd give the US made tekton a good look or see if you can get a Mayhew Trilobe set in your budget.
