Help wiring a Dayton electric motor

Hi, i need a bit of help wiring up an motor electric motor, usually I can do this on my own but this is proving to be a bit of a pain, as this wiring diagram leaves much to be desired in my opinion. Can someone explain to me what the ungrounded side of the line is. And how I would go about hooking up a power switch to this motor.

I would think that the "ungrounded" side is the hot side from the breaker (or power cord). Normally the black wire. The "grounded" side would be the neutral or white wire. I have never heard it referred to like that but it makes sense, I guess

Normally you would a switch in the black (hot) line feeding it. It looks like you have two power cords ? What is the other one ??

I am pretty sure that means HOT... since in the US power grids Neutral is most likely grounded at the main panel.
its pretty straigh forward.

if you wanted reverse rotation interchange red and black from the motor to 2 and 5...

it's 120V only motor.

or try to google translate that to spanish then back to english ?

The orange cord runs to the power switch

Okay well I tried that and the motor just buzzes...

Yes that's correct

There's no start capacitor so I'm suspecting it's probably the centrifugal

At the moment I don't have the switch plugged in I just use an extension cord that has an on-off switch for testing purposes

Post a bigger picture of your wiring.

If it's connected this way and it doesn't run but only buzzes, most likely the centrifugal start switch is bad (or just needs to be cleaned out/exercised a bit) or the motor is burnt up.

This is a split-phase motor, there is no capacitor.

If you can, turn the shaft as fast as possible while it is energized. If it runs, them the problem is almost certainly the centrifugal start switch.

It can't hurt to open the motor and check things inside. It's not difficult.

Is that bearing spring washer in its original position? Usually those are on the fan side of the rotor.

Without installing the end cap on the stator, insert the rotor into the end cap. You may be able to see if the cent switch is closed or still open.

Yes that's in its original position, so it looks like the switch is not getting a good contact

It looks like in this case it's normally closed

The wire at terminal #1 was repaired. Is that the correct location?

I think that was glue, it was like that when i got it from Granger and that black wire was repaired and it's in the correct location.

I accidentally pinched the wire and broke the wire

I'm stumped.

If it will run by manually spinning the rotor, somehow the start windings circuit is either open at power off or the start windings are shot.

Spacing between the cent switch and the governor assembly is critical which is why I was questioning the location of the spring washer.

Terminal 2 is a teardrop shape with 2 in it and the red wire is attached to it. What is the number in the teardrop under the red? If it's 5, then there are parts missing......like the terminal that sticks through small slot at 5.

Is there a 5 close to the black wire? I don't think the black wire is in the right spot. Could easily be wrong though.

One of those wires needs to be on terminal 2 the other on terminal 5. Is the black wire on terminal 5 or terminal 1?
