The bassick caster Co. Is out of bridgeport, Connecticut since 1876! The wheels may not be original though.
Yup, I found that info about bassick. They are still in business making casters. The ones on the box have the same amount of rust and wear as the box so they could possibly be replaced but there are no signs of replacement so I tend to think they are original to the box.

More info, my friend sent me this via Facebook. This box is slightly shorter than mine but this very adds credence to it being mbc made… 1948 catalog

Did MBC stamp the model and manufacture date in the back like the did for Snap-On?

Of course, that may have started later than '48ish, so not sure this is helpful...

Good question. I looked over the front and didn’t see anything. But I’ll check tonight and look at the back to see.

I'd jump right on this box for $25 if it was on this side of the water! Maybe @saukit will want it.

Old tool box. 10 drawers, 36" high, 27" wide, 17" deep. Works, but certainly not new. Not perfect by any means, but it will hold your tools. No wheels and kind of heavy... It might work for you, and it's super cheap!

Just grabbed this Kennedy 520 from an antique store. The liners are pretty much shot but not a big deal-especially for the price I paid. It was labeled as 1950’s but there is a hand written date of Nov 1968 in the lid. If dad doesn’t want it then it is mine-all mine😁.

Apparently, the buyer of the $25 box on FB MP I posted above is now flipping it for $75. Profit!! :ROFLMAO:
We have a guy like that in Metro Detroit a box will be listed,2- 4 hours later it will be SOLD and then relisted for $25-50 more. I had thought about a Snap On Box that was about 1hr-30min away ,**** it was gone while thinking. The re-seller grabbed it , got it 45 minutes closer to me and marked it up by $25, then I bought it.

I don’t understand reselling at a $25 mark up. Not worth my time or fuel . When I buy boxes to resell I generally try to double my money

Agree on the lame photos or multiple shots of the same view?? or the ones taken in an unlit space. If distance is a issue or if you’re looking for certain features good shots matter.
One of my favorites is the well-lit table with the tools being offered... right in the photographer's shadow!

That, and unrecognizable blurs....

Ok picked up a battered lower 26-1/2" x 18" deep box gonna put to use in the polebarn. However looks like the label fell off from the upper left top corner. Throw some pics on here to see if someone can identify who sold it/manufacturer.

Not that old as the drawer lips have a plastic clip on the front. Maybe 18 ga metal.
Box1.jpgBox2.jpgBox3.jpgBox4.jpg

Gonna have to try the hacksaw blade strip removal on the drawer slides as can see no way to push on a tab or anything from the side and the slides need some TLC. Some degreaser and rattle can and be fine...

Why paint it? It looks nice with “patina”.

Actually the one side you can't see is about half blistered and peeling paint. Some nasty solvent probably dripped off a machining area as this was from a small machine shop. As to painting, my polebarn does have moisture issue as can guess no vapor barrier under the floor and seams in the concrete literally weep water up during the spring. If not paint will still need some kind of clear coat. Or maybe I leave a greasy mess, can't rust that way!

And... a question...

Does anyone recognize this toolbox? I'm wanting to find out who made it... there are no markings on it that I can find...

20240815_123931.jpg

It has a unique folding top...

This box was one of 5 boxes full of tools that I bought last week... I haven't finished going through all of it yet, but there is a lot of machinist tools and a good many vintage hand tools in the lot.

That is a 'Kennedy Kits TC-14'... it is one of the boxes that I bought last week, along with the two Craftsman boxes and the one with the folding top, and another box that I'm guessing may be a Waterloo. The Kennedy TC-14 has dividers in both drawers...

I've never seen one like it before... so it really interested me.

Looks more like a medical service cart or something to me.

You may be right... it has feet instead of wheels, so it's not a 'cart'... but it could be from a hospital setting. It's identical in size to a Lista box that I have, and is built very much like a Lista internally, but doesn't look anything like the Lista.

It's a very well built box, anyway.

Even cooler, full of tools.

This thread shows a 285 with similar pulls, somehow deciphered pre 1958, vs later had blank pulls.

My guess on the unknown is something like Steelcase, General Fireproofing, or one of the other "Tanker" desk manufacturers. Has that "look" to it.

Todays hall, old Craftsman bottom roll around and unmarked machinist box ( very heavy ) Anyone know if a key could be made with the lock number. I didn't know that if the bottom door is shut that locks the drawers. Would love a key. The lock is in the locked position and won't close completely. Any ideas on dating ??

You can get a C1662 key, but it may not be a Craftsman. Is it worth $9 plus shipping to gamble?

If the box is open, you should be able to pull the lock mechanism off the back of the cylinder. You can also replace the cylinder with one you can get or have a key for.
