My picker neighbor dropped off a couple of things this morning. He’s got a special needs daughter who is currently hospitalized and he needed some cash. I was happy to help. Nothing real special. A couple of nice clamps, Craftsman ratcheting pliers, a couple Penens wrenches, and a 6” Crescent adjustable + a few other items.

My small showing for the day:
Leather sap--not really. I think the lead filled bag is to weigh cloth or paper down so it remains in one place. Weighs close to two pounds.
A yet-to-be-identified Western Cutlery knife. Details on the vintage knife thread.
Long C Craftsman 3/32 pin punch.
Goodell-Pratt No. 359 feeler gauge--1922 catalog
Not pictured--full spray bottle of Lime-Away.
$12.99 total.

A couple of nice clamps,
Sweet clamps! Love the fancy wing bolts!
A yet-to-be-identified Western Cutlery knife.
That's a cool knife! I've been searing for the one I had as a kid on Eprey, and spotted one with a similar light (fake) ivory style handle (Completely different blade) and had to have it...

Ping me if its not a keeper.

Saw this a couple weeks in a row at the flea market. I was dumb thinking it was not very good because it looked kind of old, and thought it was not as good as the twist torque wrenches I already have. Plu of course it looks to be inoperable. But last Saturday I asked how much and he said $15. I offered $10 and he took it quickly. I thought maybe I could fix it, and even if I couldn't it was still a 24" Snap-on 1/2 ratchet.

Took I ground off the drive screws, and the window cleaned up easily and the mechanism works well. I tried a couple different settings on it and it matched the 'good' torque wrench I already have. I then spent $20 (yes twice as much as I spent on the torque wrench lol) at McMaster carr for 100 drive screws, to replace the two I ground off. Looks and works pretty good now. And frankly this, in my opinion is a far easier to use than the twist style. I then realized I had a cup where a fine lady is holding it. Found a couple other things as well. (I'll be using both torque wrenches until i'm confident its actually calibrated ok)

I always think of those open handle clamps as quilting clamps, tho yours don’t say Stearns.

Thanks for the link. The one says Champion and the other has no markings other than USA. I also have always seen these called quilting clamps, and I pick them up whenever I see them … the smaller the better!😜🤪

There were no sales listed in Craigslist in the Tahoe basin so we went for a nice ride over Luther Pass to Nevada. The first sale was right on Hiway 88 and produced a few items. I liked the small Kennedy cantilever carry box and the other tools were cool too. IMG_6173.jpegIMG_6174.jpegProto tools at the top, Channellock, Diamalloy and #1 Plomb Phillips driver below. IMG_6175.jpeg
The second was an estate sale and had a couple of little boxes to go through. I was especially pleased to see the dual marked Proto/Plomb DOE wrench.IMG_6177.jpegDual markedIMG_6180.jpeg
Plenty of Craftsman IMG_6178.jpeg
At the next sale we found a bunch of ignition/magneto wrenches and found a multitool in the sellers toolbox.IMG_6183.jpeg
At the final sale I was instructed to get rid of my flea market bag that I’ve carried to sales all over CA and NV. Needless to say we protested loudly and cut the sale short. Before we left I grabbed the Starrett rule, S-K socket and Powr-Kraft extension. IMG_6187.jpeg

Just where do you get your satellites?

Not me, I designed them - had nothing to do with buying or selling!

I was thinking either Satellite dish service, or stoned out of this world drug dealers... :ROFLMAO:

I'd have played the "I'm an old man" card. and :wtf: most sales say to bring your own boxes and bags...

No idea! I always pick up pocket screwdrivers when I find them. Probably some kind of trade organization or buying group.
So i looked it up : only one entry found:

My wife had planned to can tomatoes today, which is a clear sign to get out of the way and out of the house. So, looking around, the most interesting sales seemed to be at the other end of the state, a three hour drive away. Now, I don't mind driving for a good set of sales, but I want to hedge my bets, and make sure that there are a lot of sales. So, I found a half-dozen or so, and headed out early this morning. To what started as a disappointing day. The first stop was wildly over priced, the second stop only had a few things of interest, as shown here:

Two 1/4" ratchets, SK Wayne and Pennens, along with a lumber flipper.

But the third more than made up for it.

It was in an out of the way suburb, the kind of place you can spread out and no one will bother you. There was a house with garage, with a decent sized shop out back, which I made a beeline for. And it was pretty clear that it had been gone through, confirmed by one of the family running the sale that this was the second weekend. So, looking around and not finding much, I started to leave. But then I notice a drill press in the garage itself, so I thought I should check it out before I left. And in the back, under the work bench, I spot a red rolling tool chest. I quickly check it out, and ask the price. Well, the woman in the garage said she would have to ask her brother, and when I spotted it he immediately goes "that's a Snap-on"

"It's beat up..."

"what would you offer?"

"...$60"

"How about $75?"

"With the tools?"

And so they unloaded the tools into buckets for me, and loaded it up

Obviously not a Snap-on, it is a late '40s Blackhawk Red Rover. It needs work, namely cleaning and castors. and the tools are a mix of US and foreign, but I saw Thorsen, Herbrand and Bonney. Also, there is another box full. I am too tired from driving to unload it yet, but we shall see what is what tomorrow or Sunday.

No gun. No knife (well, a 1" Schrade in my pocket.) But I did get out of there as quickly as possible. Rule number one of a great deal is to not let them think it over while you are still there talking to them.

$3 got me the Williams 1 1/4" and Klein 3/4" spud wrenches, the Snap On pocket Phillips head screwdriver, and an unmarked pair of pliers. I grabbed these because they were interesting and I don't have anything like them. Smooth, wide tips almost like a duck bill. I would assume for non-marring situations.

**absolutley. Get the deal done and get out of there before the “random self appointed “ expert of whatever subject comes out of the woodwork and starts shooting American pickers numbers around and pulling obscure eBay prices to stir things up.
Third. All in favor?
I’m In favor but i already put my vote in 😂👍

Wife sent me to an estate sale this morning which was supposed to be half off On everything and she wanted canning jars Period Everything else was half off except the canning jars which basically they wanted new retail for. For the heck of where I walk through the garage and did find these two for a buck and a half each which helped diffuse the anger of a 30 minute drive for nothing. The 1/4 is a Proto and even though a higher tooth count it is smooth and appears almost new. The built in spinner is a nice touch. The 3/8 appears new. No markings anywhere except direction on the head and it has an almost brushed finish. It has a really nice heft to it and also a very smooth action. I suspect it may have been from a government contract order. Both are soaking in an undisclosed lubricant at the moment.
