Struck out on a couple estate sales, nothing noteworthy. Not far from where I live in a residential area found in the street an open end metric wrench. Embossed "Hm", the internet said this is a tool company in India. Will keep it in the extra metric wrench box in case I have to grind down/customize a wrench in order to get to a nut in a tight location.
Honda Motorcycle wrench. A set came with every new bike back when I was riding.

Yup, Honda wrench. I ended up with two different sizes of these Honda wrenches, a pair of Suzuki wrenches, and a pair of Fiat wrenches in an auction lot I bought. It threw me off for a minute when I first saw them, but Google lens helped me figure it out. Pretty cool find, not something I personally have a ton of interest in keeping.

I know there are folks out there rebuilding and riding "vintage" ('60s-'70s-'80s) Honda bikes. I'd think they might place a value on original tools.

I forgot to mention the Brown & Sharpe 300 (c. 70s?) rule & envelope and the Starrett No. 474 thread pitch gauge.

As Don mentioned, here's a $32 SK box I left behind:
I looked at that same box on Saturday afternoon. I didn’t buy much either. I’ll post a picture of the spoils when I get out to the shop.

The straight razors are making a comeback, but not with me … too many important blood vessels in the area!!😜🤪

I used to pass them by, buy some are worth significant cash.
Yeah I like them as well but still too scared to actually try one out 😂
I got one a while back that as far as I can figure is from the mid-1800’s. Got it for pretty cheap since the lady didn’t know how old it was I guess.

20 years or so ago, my (then-) barber taught me that the key to using one (with replaceable blades, so no stropping) was to blow up a balloon and put shaving cream on it. When you could "shave" the balloon without popping it, you were ready to shave someone. Tried that a little, and was able to shave myself before I reached pop-free skills on the balloons. I kept a styptic pencil handy, IIRC....

Yes I’ve heard the shavettes are a bit easier to learn on, half the battle with straights is learning to sharpen them properly.

Kind of slow lately. Here is my two-day total.
Yesterday a shiny Snap-on 10" spinner -- $4.
Today an old Tuck 3" Radio screwdriver --$1.

Sep 05 24.jpg

There were two things I went after today. First was an unknown but interesting looking old socket set that I searched fruitlessly for, finally cornering the boss who said she (there it is again, Lugz!) thought the owner's son must have taken it.
Grrrr.
Sep 05 24a.jpg

The second was an old Nash skateboard. They actually had two--the other was in much worse shape--but they wanted $100 each.
No thanks.

Started September out right with a nifty small haul [Lugz 2024_44] this morning.

2024_44.jpg

Top to bottom:

Three (3) NOS X-Acto pieces in their NOS boxes with NOS paperwork: No. 1 Knife, a No. 52 Knife Set, and a No. 77 Woodcarving Set. These are all from the 50's, which is a little later than my sweet spot, but to nice to pass up.

A NOS C.A. Myers sewing awl in its original NOS box with NOS paperwork (I normally don't like to use collectibles, but this one will likely get used)

A No. 2 Roebling true "Alligator" wrench (the original and the only one Trademarked to use that name)

And last but not least, a new utility knife for my utility knife collection. A brand (SEECO) I have never heard of or seen before. If you want to know more about this odd obsession, I did a Curator's Corner on them here.

LEFT-BEHINDS included a whole motorpool of Tonka military vehicles (way out of my spending league)(Pic 1), a NOS Sargent leather punch kit in NOS box with NOS paperwork (not interested, only collect Schollhorn)(Pics 2 & 3), and a box of military jewelers' screwdrivers with Fed Spec and 11-digit FSN (not interested, postwar)(Pic 4).

The screw starter is a good find. I have a few and they get used frequently.
A yard sale in town started early and so I went by myself since the Craigslist ad showed a bin of wrenches. I came away with some tools at very friendly prices. It probably helped that I am a regular customer at the sellers annual sales.IMG_6377.jpeg

In my travels this week I was able to pick up a FBM listing I bought and paid for Saturday. Due to work/time /distance I was able to pick it up on Wed. then got it out of the truck today. Volume is enough ,my heart and brain just are not into a detailed inventory like I usually do. Suffice it to say 80% Craftsman ,with the balance a mix of SK, Cornwell, Snap On and Wright.

Lots more photos of today's finds on the Hollow Handle, Roebling, Lugzsonian, and X-Acto threads, but here are some Cleaned-Up Close-Ups for the homebodies.

Wow I hit an Indian Summer bonanza estate sale today. No GPA (well, I left a prop lantern in a plastic suicide case) but probably my best single stop (only stop) score so far for the year. Claim was 3 generations worth or stuff - I believe it!:

First item I picked up was the hewing hatchet. 4-1/2" blade and markings obscured by hr rust - Have to do something about that... A close second was the leather - I found the double buckle strap after I got it home... I'm guessing that is from Binocs or a camera case. Vaughn 6oz BP, and an unmarked clone of a Stanley 593A plastic face hammer

wing-Hatchet-leather-Vaughn-BP-Plastic-face-mallet.jpg

One of my last pics was this Pick! it has a mark I'll have to carefully unmask:

E2-Pick-1.jpg

E2-Pick-2.jpg

Grommets, another GAM Driver, 3 blade imperial and M. Klien and sons Knives, Yamaha and Plvmb wrenches, a nice German made mortise marking gauge, and a Waldon Drag link Driver Socket.

er-Knives-Yamaha-Plvmb-motise-marking-gauge-Waldon.jpg

A Civil Defense box to be identified for use; -watch for the next CD object! - A Yankee #41 drill in box - I may be able to get the old masking tape off? its that old... - A sanding block, I have at least one other similar - maybe the same - and a wood plane;

E4-Yankee-41-C-Plane-Sandign-Block.jpg

Socket sets! 2 of SK deeps, one of the 3/8 is not SK and the 1/2 drive set may have one MIA - I need to find a catalog page. the Plvmb box is different, as it has rounded corners instead of being bent up from flat stock square.

E5-SK-Plvmb.jpg

Inside the Plvmb box is mostly Craftsman all metric - with 3 Taiwan orphans and a frozen RHFT that needs a soak.

E6-Plvmb-CM-Metric.jpg

A Roper Whitney #5 Jr punch with 4 of 7 sets of punches and dies. - Now my orphan non-Whitney clone can move on. I have one for each size of punch now.

E7-r-W-punch-set.jpg

Tap and Die sets! 2 are Greenfield Tap & Die (GTD) first one is all fractional, 1/4" or less - very unusua!, #2 is Numbered machine screw taps and dies plus the 1/4"; Third is very tiny taps and dies, likely gunsmith sizes. only one had a brand - Winter?

E8-GTD-A-1.jpg

E9-GTD-3-AA-4.jpg

E10-Tint-Tap-set.jpg

A Millers falls box with a Milers falls depth gauge:

E11-MF-1.jpg

E11-MF-2.jpg

A Cincinnati Drill index -steel, not aluminum, 2 short step blocks marked "Sarge" on one side and fractional heights on the other, and 2 Bernard compounds, -wire forming and nippers. I think the wire formers are missing a spring, I have to research that, but these will be users. for sure.

E12-Cinc-Index-Bernards-Step-blicks.jpg

I've been wanting one of these vises, its a clamp on bench vise but modeled on the Blacksmith's vise. If I can find a "Wagon tongue" vise I'l have all three major varieties of these. The angle was added; Probably for stability, but the spiked claw pad on the bench screw indicates to me likely German origin. No marking so far...

E14-BS-Vise-1.jpg

E14-BS-Vise-2.jpg

The other Civil Defense thing; A geiger counter! I'm wondering if the other box is for calibration of the GC?

E15-GC-1.jpg

E15-GC-2.jpg

Inside are clean (both boxes) and both take D-cell batteries.

E15-GC-2.jpg

One of the first things I looked over, but added to my pile late, was this Mercury outboard tank - My second, like this; #1 I converted to a White gas/Coleman fuel refill station; This one after a clean out gets a new hose and my electric pump moved onto it and its a reserve for my rigs. 3 gallons is a nice size, fairly small anad not too heavy, but 3 gallons is plenty to get you to a gas station.

It will need cleaned out, it has near gelatined gas on the bottom (Napalm?) - I plan on giving it a long strong lye soak after some initial scraping.

E16-Boat-tank.jpg

Last pic was a curb PU from yesterday - Aluminum Extrusions - 1-1/2" X 47" and 1" X 48"

Three sales today, all out in the country. And when I was about a mile from the first, I realized that I forgot to stop at the bank, thus had no cash on me. So, I headed all the way back, got dinero, and went to my first stop. Which had nothing of interest. Then on to my next stop, and I passed a bank on the way. Sigh. But the next stop was an shop clear out run by a bunch of the deceased's friends. And what a bunch of character they were! We cracked jokes the whole time I snooped and spied. Unfortunately, the tools weren't as good as the companionship, mostly as they had pre-bundled everything, and as I wasn't early to the sale, a lot of good stuff went, mostly to other friends. But I bought one lot, and a book:
53976097016_37f50c1af2_b.jpg
$15 got me a Rigid 12" adjustable, Bridgeport pump of some kind, (3) Snap-on specialty wrenches for Cummins diesels, K-D torque wrench, very abused MAC wrench, Craftsman chisel, and Snap-on distributer wrench. The book I got, for an aditional $5, was the 1939 edition of Shop Notes:
53976428489_304d03ee91_b.jpg

The next stop I didn't have much hope for, but it was on my way to deal with my main errand, dropping a truckload off at Habitat. Another farm sale, the pics showed mostly home decor, but the ad said tools, so...
53976235386_03369fd236_b.jpg
a Kennedy roller (with unpictured, as it is still in the back seat of my truck, MC-28 mid box) for $40. The picture is so bad as it is still in the back of my truck, and will stay there until my wife is asleep, as she will kill me if she spots me bringing another chest home.

I would say that the unidentified Civil Defense item is for charging dosimeters. I have one somewhere, left over from the days of drums of crackers etc in public shelter areas. My dad had taken Civil Defense training one summer at Battle Creek Michigan and came home with lots of Geiger counters, dosimeters, books, etc. That was in the early 1960s.

You're close. :) The little box is for "recharging"/calibration of dosimeters

Those Civil Defense items are way cool. I have a new in box Victoreen CD V-717 radiological survey meter from the mid 60s. I've been after one of their geiger counters for a while now.

bmw, that abused MAC wrench was probably modified for removing the fuel injection pump on Cummins N-series engines. Some of the bolts on the engine block side are a real bear to get to!

You get a **** for the Kennedy and all the rest.

Nice pick!

**** for Outlaw, too. Mass quantity!

Please decode this:

"No GPA (well, I left a prop lantern in a plastic suicide case)."

GPA?

Prop lantern (propane)?

Suicide case?

Thanks Don! So, I just counted and I'm missing the 9/16, and the 5/8 was replaced with an SK-Wayne. I'll check my inventory and I'm planning on dropping by that one again today. - I'll see if they are loose in the big toolbox.

Went to the last day of an estate sale. $40 fill up a bucket and $20 fill a bag.

This is a $40 bucket.
Plenty of SK, Mac, Craftsman, Indestro and Proto. The soft jaw pliers are Blue Point. Oilers were also in the bucket for $40.

Red box is a set of old roadside reflectors, blue boxes are impact drivers, the Squibb box has copper rivets and accompanying tools for setting them.

IMG_7443.jpeg
IMG_7441.jpeg

I got all these cars/tractors in a bag for $20.
IMG_7449.jpeg

And then this was about $40 or so at a different sale.

IMG_1672.jpegIMG_1669.jpegNo worthwhile sales for me this weekend. I did grab this stuff out of two free piles. The universal belts are new. I thought the handle and screw might be for a bench vise but the smaller threaded are at the end and shorter threaded area makes me question it. Any ideas? Also from the free piles was two sets of Thule locking ski racks with keys. IMG_1671.jpeg

Today made up for the decent finds I’ve been having lately. My wife, the neighbor and I went to most of the sales listed in Craigslist and almost all of them were total busts. The 1/4” rusty socket rack was gifted to me at a sale in Stateline and the other four tools were from a sale we went to last week In Meyers. I think the season is winding down around here.IMG_6417.jpeg
